He lives directly opposite me and we haven't seen him for about 10 days. His curtains have not moved and his car hasnt moved either.

He is in his late 50's and lives alone. He is also a real loner so he doesn't have any friends that I know of that I can ask. Infact in the 10 years I have lived here I have never even seen him have a visitor!

I've had a nosey through the letter box and front window and can't see anything out of order.

I'm just worried that if the police come they might break his door down and then what if he is on holiday??

I deleted the last sentence of my previous response - but as worra has referred to the subject, not to put too fine a point on it decomposing bodies emit a distinct odour which can be easily be detetected by humans as well as dogs and there is also the small matter of insect infestation.

Hope that doesn't ruin anyone's elevenses or lunch.

'detetected' 'detected'

Just to say hope there's a good outcome to this story. Please keep us informed.

Springyknickersohnovicars · 22/09/2011 11:55

I've raised the alarm on a neighbour turns out he had fallen and couldn't get to the phone. It saved his life I am glad to say. It won't harm anyone to call the police and get them to check it out. They're used to dealing with situations like this.

Another friend also got them to check her brother's flat, he had killed himself. Sad

GypsyMoth · 22/09/2011 11:58

I was thinking that Izzy

Now schools are back holidays for this age group are quieter!

MrsBlarney · 22/09/2011 11:59

Did you tell the police where he works - if you know? They could check with the employers.

DogGoneMad · 22/09/2011 12:03

I don't know where he works. I know very little about him as he keeps himself to himself. I do hope he is on holiday but I've never known him go away in all the years I've been here.

I hope he's alright. You did a good thing, well done.

SixtyFootDoll · 22/09/2011 12:07

Def done the right thing, hopefully he is away.
I got one of these calls once and when forced entry little old lady was very I'll in bed having had a stroke, if we hadn't got in she would have died.

alisonsmum · 22/09/2011 12:15

oh hope hes ok

BlueGeranium · 22/09/2011 12:16

I had a neighbour who was found dead in his flat. He lived alone, and was in his 60's. He was a chronic alcoholic apparently. He had been dead for a couple of days before he was found by his ex-wife. The first I knew of it was when I had a visit from the Police, asking me when I'd last seen him. Tbh I'd kept my distance from him as he'd kept challenging me over my right to use the communal washing lines and wasn't a very nice person!

Tewkespeggy · 22/09/2011 12:24

he'll be thrilled that you are worried about him

BimboNo5 · 22/09/2011 12:27

The same happened to my neighbour, hadn't been seen for a while, wasn't answering his phone, his Dad came round and found him dead in bed- sudden adult death syndrome. I still remember his wailing now Sad

Notnapping · 22/09/2011 12:32

A distant cousin once had the police break his door down after a loony relative of his got the police round as he hadn't answered the door for an afternoon

Unfortunately he was I'll with flu and having a day in bed and didn't want to answer the door to said loony as she has a habit of popingin and staying for hours talking about toenails and dead birds ....

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 22/09/2011 12:34

Oh Bimbo that's awful! Sad

lisad123 · 22/09/2011 12:36

Hope his ok, u did right thing

Sidge · 22/09/2011 12:40

I think you did the right thing by calling the police. Even if it comes to nothing at least you were looking out for him.

It's nice to be considerate.

loopylou6 · 22/09/2011 12:40

You've deffo done the right thing.

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 22/09/2011 13:42

Eeek this just reminded me. A few years ago I had just moved into a new house. Spoke to my new neighbour a few times and guessed she was retired although looked good for her age, very smart etc. After I had been living there for a few months I realised I hadn't seen her for weeks, luckily I bumped into her later that day and said "Oh hello, so glad I've seen you, I haven't seen you for ages and was worried about you". I thought she would be pleased she had a neighbour who had noticed and who was looking out for her. She then told me she had been around and had been going to work as normal. Turned out she was about 20 years younger then I thought she was. I sunk into the ground!

ToothlesstheDragon · 22/09/2011 15:51

SnapesMistress · 22/09/2011 16:12
