Morrison's Supermarket and Hygiene

An interesting incident occurred at the Aylesbury branch of Morrison?s the supermarket this afternoon.

I had gone into the store on the way home and whilst at the back observed a member of staff wheeling their push bike through the store. Since they were greeted by other members of staff, I would guess that this was not an isolated incidence and acceptable thing to do. Well given that bikes go on the road where all sorts of un-mentionables are lurking, not least dog pooh, I don?t consider walking a street bike through a store selling food to be a particularly hygienic thing.

So I called the Customer Service department at their head office in Bradford. When I suggested that it should not be the case that staff brought bikes through the store, I was told it was no different to people taking pushchairs or roller-skates into the store and would I expect them to ban those as well. When I questioned this still further, I was told I was being silly. Maybe it is just me, but I left my shopping behind and went to Tesco instead.

how is that different from ....SHOES!

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 19/09/2011 16:55

Sorry, dog pooh.

OMG Lassie ate Winnie!

MiseryBusiness · 19/09/2011 16:55

YABU

And maybe have a bit too much time on your hands

HTH :)

squeakytoy · 19/09/2011 16:56

Unless they were wiping the saddle on the fresh fish, or doing a wheelie through the cakes.. you are being bloody ridiculous.

jade80 · 19/09/2011 16:56

Ha ha ha, you cannot be serious! I think you need more to do if you think someone wheeling a bike through is a problem. What, were you planning to lick the floor in the aisles or something?

OpenMouthInsertFoot · 19/09/2011 16:57

If you want actual hygiene problem - I once saw someone walking round the fruit section of Tesco with his finger up his nose.

Then guess what he did?

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 19/09/2011 16:57

Don't ever visit the supermarket toilets. You'll see women who don't stop to wash their hands and then head straight off fondle the fruit and veg.

MmeLindor. · 19/09/2011 16:58

I worked in a shop where someone did a poo on one of the beds.

Vile.

Bike would not bother me at all.

CauldronsTrulyReign · 19/09/2011 16:58

Oh you brightened up Head Office's day.

Well done you.

PortBlackSandWitchIsThere · 19/09/2011 16:59

re Thread Title

Is now the time for me to mention the "lady" who sneezed over the egg mayonnaise in the open salad bit in Morrisons? Or are some things better left unsaid??

fanjobanjowanjo · 19/09/2011 16:59

Teehee. Ridiculous!

TobyLeWolef · 19/09/2011 17:00

There's probably all kinds of crap on your shoes.

Also, apparently shopping trolley handles are pretty much the grossest things you can touch.

SnapesOnAPlane · 19/09/2011 17:02

The member of staff riding the bike through the store at 40MPH, that would have been an interesting incident.
This, however, wasn't.

eurochick · 19/09/2011 17:02

Heh!

To repeat what others have said, what about trollies, pushchairs and shoes and all the nasties they drag in?

And you do know don't you that some of the fruit and veg might have (gasp) dirt on them having been in the ground? And that eggs have been up a chicken's chuff and sometimes have bird poo on them? And that the vein running down the back of prawns is an intestine full of.....poo?

After reading this, I expect you will need to go for a bit of a lie down.

aldiwhore · 19/09/2011 17:03

YABU its not an interesting incident.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/09/2011 17:03

I've been in a really big Tesco where some of the staff work on roller skates!

freybean · 19/09/2011 17:03

ha ha if you think that is bad then you really don't want to see the state of the cages the food is delivered in

patindahat · 19/09/2011 17:04

I suppose it depends on where instore the bike was being wheeled from. A food preparation area would in my opinion be an unsuitable place for bike shed.

AuntieMonica · 19/09/2011 17:04

Snapes

none of the staff at my local Morrisons could move at 40mph, bike or no bike Grin

*joke, people, joke Wink

CauldronsTrulyReign · 19/09/2011 17:04

I'm trying to get my head round this though.

You had done some shopping, observed an unsanitary practice, so immediately phoned HO?

They didn't pander to your logic bypass so you left?

Did you leave your trolley?

Did you write off your £¿

Did you stomp?

hehe.

FuntimeDavies · 19/09/2011 17:13

2nd 'have a pop at Morrisons' thread I've read in 5 minutes. Coincidence or a rival laying a trail Hmm?

Kladdkaka · 19/09/2011 17:15

Was the call recorded for training purposes? If so, this is one of those complaints that'll get used on staff training days as an example of how to deal with nutters.

fluffles · 19/09/2011 17:16

totally ridiculous!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 19/09/2011 17:18

How very strange.

I assume you live in a particularly rough area and the staff at your local Morissons are afraid to leave their bikes in the rack outside Confused

But yes, shoes, pram wheels - they all get crap on them.

YABU anyway.

Illegitimate · 19/09/2011 17:19

Dirty bastards.
You should of slapped the bike riding cunt round the face with a big bloody steak
