I am very very proud of myself, I've been working up to this for a while knowing once I managed the 48 hours I would not go back.

Here I am having done the 48 hours.

Well done! Smoking is rubbish, good riddance to it all, you are free!

And if the withdrawals kick in eat cake until they pass, which they will.

(Six years and counting sans fags, never ever tempted to start again)

DillyTante · 18/09/2011 19:24

Well done!

lollilou · 18/09/2011 19:26

Well done. I'm on day 4 and for some reason finding it really hard though not quite as ratty today. Perhaps because it's Sunday so not too much going on. Craving was bad after a big roast dinner, lager and choc cake!

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 18/09/2011 19:39

love the quit stats...will use those.

Thank you everyone for bothering, it really has helped me through the bit I thought might be tough.

lollilou, keep up the good work there, chocolate cake is my next stop this evening

lemmein · 18/09/2011 20:51

Lollilou- im on day 9 today but day 4 was particularly bad for me - no reason why, i just craved all day. Today is the first day ive not thought about having one - hopefully it'll stay that way. Well done to all new quitters - ive stopped for 10 years before but stupidly restarted last christmas- this time ive quit cold turkey. Wouldnt say the last week has been easy but certainly not as hard as id anticipated. I did read allen carrs book, that seems to have helped. Good luck op and well done.

Skippyboo · 18/09/2011 21:00

Brilliant! Well done, Liza. It's not easy, but it's do-able. I've been quit for 16 months now and I don't even give it a thought. Best thing I ever did :)

Congrats and good luck to lollilou, lemmein and other quitters on this thread too.

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 18/09/2011 22:02

Yay lots more quitters! Hurrah for all of us.

saladsandwich · 18/09/2011 22:05

WELLDONE! i have been stopped 4 years in october and i still find it hard sometimes but i haven't lapsed once and i'm hoping to stay a non smoker for life... keep it up best thing i've ever done and my health improved dramatically after stopping

wannabefree · 18/09/2011 22:26

Three weeks today for me.

I read Allen Carr's book. Seems to be working.

tallwivglasses · 18/09/2011 23:23

Threads like this bring joy to my old heart Grin

My lovely mum deteriorated horribly, then died from smoking-related illnesses.

You've got to admire her though - after one narrow escape she was back from hospital and within days cajoling dd's teenage mates/Jehover's witnesses/next-door students/random passers-by - to nip down the cornershop for 20 b&h, or even sneak her a roly, she wasn't fussed.

The thing is, I was addicted too and coughing to the point of it being embarrassing. In public. To my shame my daughter also smoked.

Then she gave up (ttc) and told me if I wanted to be a hands-on gran I had no other choice but to do the same. She was right and it was the best kick up the arse I've ever had.

It was fucking HARD (35 years of tab-love with only one or two gaps)

if I can do it, etc...

WELL DONE LIZA x

SmethwickBelle · 18/09/2011 23:34

Allen Carr encapsulates it for me, you think ciggies are doing something for you, but they're just fixing a craving which is only there in the first place due to the bloody cigarettes.

I promise anyone stopping smoking that once you're out of the addiction you can get back to normal and yes life will be perfectly fulfilling and lovely without them. More so.

Nevertooearlyforcake · 19/09/2011 01:45

Well done Liza!

I gave up in 2001 after ten years of smoking. Had tried to give up a few times unsuccessfully before but in the end the effort paid off and I haven't had a single craving in years, not even when I'm knocking back the wine. Would never have thought that was possible but trust me, it really is!

NotADudeExactly · 19/09/2011 01:58

Well done! Have a Wine

I've been smoke free since June - gave up while DH was visiting the ILs. I found it harder to stick with it once he returned as he still smokes. I'm still happily smoke-free though. :o

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 19/09/2011 05:39

Youarekidding - you can do it this morning....honestly you can and once you've not had this one, you'll find not having the next one even easier.

Thanks again everyone else the encouragement is helping no end.

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 19/09/2011 06:30

youarekidding, I'm here :)

pinkytheshrinky · 19/09/2011 07:08

Well Done everyone - the Allen Carr Book is the way ahead as far as I am concerned but amazing to hear you are all doing so well Smile

youarekidding · 19/09/2011 07:35

Hi, Thanks Liza I am currently sipping a very hot coffee. Grin

I had a shower and hairwash last night to break my normal morning routine so it wouldn't seem like something was missing! I then set the alarm for later so I had no time to sneak out for 1 before DS got up.

Leaving for work in 15 minutes so have almost got through the hard part this morning - 4pm will be a big challenge.

How are you doing today?

Tortington · 19/09/2011 07:37

another day another pay on the back everyone

Tortington · 19/09/2011 07:38

pat* not pay

youarekidding · 19/09/2011 07:50

Its also a pay by the money saved - also on the extra shit picked up just because I'm going in the shop. Grin

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 19/09/2011 08:10

thanks - I figure today has to be even easier right? and frankly the last 2 days haven't been unmanageable.

Custy - you know I'm giving that some thought...excellent reward for self, a night out in that there London Town, clearly I shall ask permission from the newly installed DH as am attempting to commence married life in the manner of provincial 1950's housewife.

I assume there will be chaperones for all the ladies to carry their vanity cases from the train station and the like?

RatherBe · 19/09/2011 09:16

Just wanted to add my congrats to OP and all other quitters! It is difficult. One thought that helped me (14 years ago now - am OLD!) was that the first couple of days were hard and that if I gave in it would all have been for nothing, plus I would just have to go through it all again sometime. Keep going!

itisnearlysummer · 19/09/2011 09:18

Congratulations. Consider this a big pat on the back.

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 19/09/2011 09:24

Ratherbe, spot on! that's where I am, I knew that's how I'd feel as well so had to do it the right way for me.

Am very very proud of myself for doing this and plan to carry on congratulating myself for a while yet!

Then when that gets dull, I'm going to buy a new handbag...a properly lovely one, not one from a charity shop which is what I normally do....
