so dhs friends dp is pregnant and she announced it to the world in July - it is due end February 2012.

They had a scan this week (they live in Europe) and where told it's a boy

They are getting married in a few weeks but she wants to wait until the week before to buy the dress because every day she is getting bigger and bigger (after three months I think it's more she is eating too much rather than being pregnant)

I am left feeling a bit Confused I am happy for them but announcing it one week after Flo was due and already telling people it's a boy after two and a half months?

YABU.

Having said that, one of my friends announced her pregnancy at 4 weeks.... It felt like she was pregnant FOREVER, though the 5 times a day Facebook status updates detailing every step of the pregnancy contributed to that feeling Grin

YABU - everyone's different and they can do whatever they like.

I told people as soon as I found out with both pregnancies.
3 reasons why.

My job involves lots of moving & handling so I needed a risk assessment.
I'm rubbish at keeping secrets if they involve myself.
If anything were to go wrong I'd be upset, I wouldn't hide it, I'd want support from people.

TrillianAstra · 11/09/2011 11:16

For a minute there I thought you meant she was 1 month pregnant right now and had already been told its a by. Which is not possible.

If the thing they did that annoyed you happened in July why are you posting now?

TheVermiciousKnid · 11/09/2011 11:22

I think somebody ought to write a rulebook for pregnant women, detailing exactly:
-when (and how) women should announce their pregnancy
-what they should wear
-what (and when) they should eat and drink
-what they should buy and how they should prepare for the baby
-what scans and tests they should have
-how they should behave
-how much (or how little) they should talk about their pregnancy (including posting on facebook)
-etc etc

It really is quite outrageous that pregnant women seem to be allowed to make autonomous decisions. Angry

Maybe the author of a certain well-known book for producing 'happy' babies would be interested in writing this book?

yabu, nothing to do with you.

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 11:34

TheVermiciousKnid - You forgot the prologue - whether said lady and her DP are suitable to bring children into this world or should they be neutered at birth ;)

TheVermiciousKnid · 11/09/2011 11:39

Good point, Carpwidow! We need to have very specific rules about who is allowed to have children in the first place.

I also forgot the rule about exactly how much weight you are allowed to put on and when.

yousankmybattleship · 11/09/2011 11:41

YABU. What are you - the pregancy police? Has it actually got anything to do with you? Bonkers and bitchy. Sorry.

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 11:47

...and the period of time AFTER the wedding ceremony when it is appropriate to conceive Vermicious.

FreudianSlipper · 11/09/2011 11:48

why does it bother you?

i could understand if you were concerned because of past history but it just seems to piss you off and you are coming across as bitter. let them enjoy themselves and look forward to the birth of their child its very exciting

also i was in maternity wear at 10 weeks, at 5 months i had constant remarks along the line of won't be long, by 7 months it was poor you and 9 months are you having twins (no)

coccyx · 11/09/2011 11:48

sorry i i misunderstood, thought she announced it in July when she was 4 weeks gone, so wondered how she knew the sex so early.

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 11:50

I ran round the office where I worked waving the positive pregnancy dipstick thingy in one hand trying to pull my knickers up with the other! [honest]

TheVermiciousKnid · 11/09/2011 11:51

Oh yes, we definitely need guidance on how soon after the wedding a woman is allowed to get pregnant.

Come to think of it, I think we need another book with rules about weddings! Grin

AlpinePony · 11/09/2011 11:56

I think your maths is a bit off puppet. I'm due 19 Feb and am 17 weeks... Which is not 3 months.

Robotindisguise · 11/09/2011 11:57

I had to tell my boss at ten weeks because I was asked to handle some equipment which was magnetic.

I told family at 6 weeks because it was Christmas and there was no way they weren't going to guess
