so dhs friends dp is pregnant and she announced it to the world in July - it is due end February 2012.

They had a scan this week (they live in Europe) and where told it's a boy

They are getting married in a few weeks but she wants to wait until the week before to buy the dress because every day she is getting bigger and bigger (after three months I think it's more she is eating too much rather than being pregnant)

I am left feeling a bit Confused I am happy for them but announcing it one week after Flo was due and already telling people it's a boy after two and a half months?

YABU - Have a saucer of milk!

Up to them when they announce it. I announced it early for my subsequent 2 babies after my first baby was stillborn after many complications. I did it because I wanted people to be aware I was pregnant (and terrified). Yes, I do get a bit Hmm at people buying everything by 12 weeks (etc) but that's more because I have lots my innocence in that respect and know that even getting past the 12 week mark is no guarantee Sad. I don't think (for this reason) that there is a good time to tell people.

Bohica · 11/09/2011 00:00

YABU

Do you know her history? I was so excited when we conceived that everyone knew by 6 weeks, approx 5 minutes after my fiirst positive test.

11+++ miscarriges later I still told the world within 5 minutes.
Do I wish for my own mental strength that I hadn't told the whole world? Yes.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

ScaredyDog · 11/09/2011 00:02

My BF was MASSIVE at 12 weeks, we thought she was having twins but she wasn't, she just showed early and put on weight v. fast. Don't think she was eating loads either as she had mad morning sickness.

My DP's best mate only told us he and his DP were expecting their first when she was 12 weeks - we were so thrilled for them and wished they'd had blurted it out as soon as she'd POAS!

Certainly more going on here. Meow indeed!

AgentZigzag · 11/09/2011 00:02

Hahahaha at 'Meow' Grin

Great post.

fourkids · 11/09/2011 00:02

is DH's friend hot or something?

PinkFondantFancy · 11/09/2011 00:03

OP have you previously had a MC? I ask because having experienced a pregnancy loss can make you feel a bit weird about other people announcing early. Having said that, it made me more blaze about telling people the next time around-I t

I agree with the others though, theres clearly something else that's winding you up about this woman, what is it?

Serenitysutton · 11/09/2011 00:04

The annoucing a month in isn't something i'd do and is tbh a little niave, but since they're now 3 months in no harm done eh?

I don't think, tbh, most people are that bothered to hear someones pregnant. After all it's 9 months before the baby appears... A quick congratulations and it's forgotten about for most.

PinkFondantFancy · 11/09/2011 00:05

Stupid phone!! Anyway I was just saying I told everyone about the MC including those that didn't know I was pregnant so this time I figured there was no harm in telling people about the pregnancy in the first place.

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 00:05

Why the reticence OP? Cat got your tongue Gin?

AgentZigzag · 11/09/2011 00:05

Yes, what's the story outline you've sketched out backstory?

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 00:07

Is she your DH's ex?

fourkids · 11/09/2011 00:08

or is DH's friend your EX?

Oakmaiden · 11/09/2011 00:08

Bohica Do I wish for my own mental strength that I hadn't told the whole world? Yes.

I didn't tell until 12 weeks for my first baby. My second baby I miscarried at around 10 weeks - and it was so lonely that nobody knew so nobody cared.

Subsequent pregnancies I told earlier. In fact one online friend "virtually" hand held me through the weeing on the stick for the last one - so she knew very quickly!

AgentZigzag · 11/09/2011 00:08

Grin at Gin

Very telling.

Has the woman got a particularly beautiful cat that you've coverted from afar and after two long years you've found you can hold in your jealousy no longer?

Birdsgottafly · 11/09/2011 00:08

YABU.
Why the hell shouldn't they be excited and want to share it 'with the world'.

Are you sure she isn't further along, it's very early to say for sure what gender the baby is.

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 00:09

I know Agent in my drunker stupour I missed out the "r" :)

carpwidow · 11/09/2011 00:11

YABU for starting the thread and then just responding to all our questions with a cat call. Well woof woof woof!

Bohica · 11/09/2011 00:22

oak strangers on the internet knew before anyone else with some of my pregnancies, hand holding was very much needed and I do fear that I was boring my RL friends with it all.

InfaCT MY mc's were boring my friends and family as well, there is only so many it wasn't meant to be and so many God didn't want it to happen's that one women could put up with!

I now have 3 budding little girls so it all worked its self out in the end Smile

SexualHarrassmentPandaPop · 11/09/2011 00:39

It makes me cringe when people announce they are a few weeks pg too. Only cos I did the same and it turned out to be ectopic (also happened to a friend of mine) It's up to the individual though. I can understand that if you've never had an ectopic/miscarriage you are just excited and don't think of what might go wrong.

squeakytoy · 11/09/2011 00:40

I think perhaps OP hasnt had an invite to the wedding...

Probably for the best!

kitbit · 11/09/2011 00:45

If she has had a scan that shows the sex she is at least 16 weeks.

ChippingIn · 11/09/2011 00:45

Bloody hell, - I missed the memo?! Someone died and made you boss??

PublicHair · 11/09/2011 00:48

i miscarried between dd2 and ds, it was not planned and we were panicking about if we should have the baby at all due to very serious financial and domestic issues. when i miscarried i was gutted as nobody cared (if i am honest the guilt i felt for not being excited was awful) in hindsight,i would tell people who i cared about. i hate knowing the sex of peoples babies though, and the name, but that's just me.

Claw3 · 11/09/2011 00:59

I thought a scan couldnt show the sex of a baby until 20 weeks? but they live in Europe, they must be able to determine the sex of a baby at the moment of conception, i think

SexualHarrassmentPandaPop · 11/09/2011 01:06

I've known people who've had early scans for various reasons where the sonographer has had a guess.
