I lurk a bit at work ( prenteding to be busy, saves me making the tea ) and have started the odd thread here and there seeking advice, BuT my god I feel sorry for the posters who are on here day in day out for hours.
I know some people are socially isolated and I'm sure they get a lot from mumsnet, but it is rather sad when it becomes your main source of adult interaction, and by choice for many I imagin. I know mumsnet has one million members, but it's always the same names coming up in active conversations. These forums should be a place where you drop into now and then, not somewhere you rely on for friendship.

LeBof

I think recent Ops show all groups are getting stick. The first I ever heard of the Shiny group was that everyone was elitest and bitchy.

That's clearly not the case, I "know" and like most of the posters on there.

But yes, I have noticed an increase in snarky comments about them in the odd "what's crap about Mnet" threads.

One of the reasons I don't come here more regularly is that I spend far too long here and go to bed about two hours later. Funnily the DCs don't get up any later and I stomp around all day feeling ratty.

I am quite in awe of those who come here regularly and make it fit into a normal life. I'm the one you should be feeling sorry for! :)

lostinafrica · 09/09/2011 19:16

two hours later than my bedtime. Duh.

How did you get your 'o'???

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/09/2011 19:35

Well, OP, you obviously have a different idea of the purpose of sites like MN. They are called communities. That means that people share things, they look out for each other and - shock - they make friends.

They are also places that are great for advice, but they are so much more than that.

I have been here for 5 years now, and have come to know several posters actually pretty well.

Some of them I have never met, but know that I share the same values and sense of humour, so I count them as my friends. Whether or not they would be there for me in any hour of need I don't know, but they are people who I feel I can rely upon to entertain me, or help me, or generally inform me.

Some of them I have met. Some of them I have met several times. In fact last weekend, we had a lunch where 10 of us got together. 5 of us then went back to my house for dinner, and one lovely MNetter stayed over, as she had travelled well over 200 miles to be with us.

So those of us who invest in MN get an awful lot out of it, in real life as well as online.

And if you don't think this is rewarding enough, what do you think about the Christmas 'secret Santa' that goes on here?

But you and your supporter, hamsterz (or whatever he/she is called) don't appear to like any of this very much. So I'm wondering why you are here at all?

Why not just enjoy being so popular in your real life? And if you need information, then Google is your friend from here on in.

Ooo, I hate quiche-bashing. The tea shop and bar used to get it. Then all the bashers fucked off to moldies...
