Read it in the Guardian here:

Such presence of mind in extremis.
Bravo.

ITs an awful thing to happen but she has probably saved so many others from going through a similar fate.

ajandjjmum · 08/09/2011 17:45

Brilliant presence of mind - although few of us know how we'd react in those circumstances.

CurrySpice · 08/09/2011 17:47

I just heard that on the radio and said, out loud "good girl"! And to the victims who stood up in court and gave evidence - how brave of them too

What a horrendous exeperience those girls all went through.

I hope the fact that, even in that terrible time she was having, she had the presence of mind and bravery to do that, and help convict him, gives her a small amount of comfort and pride.

aliceliddell · 08/09/2011 17:47

Shame she couldn't have pulled his hair out to get a DNA sample.

QuitePrettyInPink · 08/09/2011 17:47

Stranded
I know what you mean, it sounds logical and yet it's the first time I have ever heard of this happening.

I'm a CSI addict, and tbh I don't think it wold ever occur to me to pull out my own hair to prive I had been in a car whilst being raped!! And a teenager as well! That's fucking amazing. What a horrible thing to happen I hope she can find some pride in her strenth after that and take something good out of it

TheCrackFox · 08/09/2011 17:54

He is one sick individual.

Thank God he has been caught and jailed.

All the girls he raped or attempted to abduct are heroes IMO.

CurrySpice · 08/09/2011 18:03

Well Alice since she was tied up I think she did pretty well.

TBH that comment has pissed me off a bit

HairyGrotter · 08/09/2011 18:05

What courageous women, all of them. Shown great strength.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 18:06

I think alices comment was that it was a shame she had to hurt herself not him not that she should have done x instead of y.

Thinking about it though it makes more sense she pulled her hair, she was probably thinking that if she didn't make it out alive she could then be traced to his car if he got rid of her body :(

CurrySpice · 08/09/2011 18:07

I hope that's what she meant tofu

TBH I'm tired and irritable and prob a bit quick on the snipe Blush

Also this is a subject very close to my heart

MsScarlettInTheLibrary · 08/09/2011 18:16

That's incredible, really.

ITA, Bravo.

Oh, Curry, I'm really sorry! I totally meant it as Tofu suggested. Been better if she'd pulled his whole head off.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 18:23

Its an upsetting subject but I think we all agree that all the girls were amazing and that the girl being discussed in Op has got some amazing courage under fire not to mention clever as hell and determined that she was going to make sure the fucker went down for it. . I think the default position for most people when they realised they wern't going to escape would just be imagining they were anywhere but there.

Hassled · 08/09/2011 18:23

I read this - gobsmackingly brave/clever/fore-sighted of her. I just don't ever think I'd have it in me to think like that.

aliceliddell · 08/09/2011 18:24

And good point Pretty

SeniorWrangler · 08/09/2011 18:31

On my self-defence course they advised to try to get the flat of our hand on a window as well, as apparently that leaves a really good print.

Greythorne · 08/09/2011 18:31

As sickened as I am by this vile man and his crimes, I love that cleverness, courage and quick-thinking in the end came true, leading to his evil actions not going unpunished and him being brought to justice.

Score one for presence of mind versus brute strength and wickedness.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 18:35

Thats a good idea senior. You know I find it really odd I never really thought about this before. I just assumed the police do their best to figure it out but it never occured that in an emergency if possible we could try and help them along.

ThePosieParker · 08/09/2011 18:40

Yes, I thought the same. Incredibly clarity iof thought in what must have been a horrific ordeal.

FreudianSlipper · 08/09/2011 18:48

how brave of them all and great thinking from this girl. i hope they are receiving the support they deserve to move on from what this man has done to them
