.. two photcopied Bratz dolls illustrations. She has labouriously felt-tipped their trout pouts, stripper heels, crop tops and fishnets. Oh, and the crucifix that one has draped around her cheekily out-thrust hips.

Sorry, OP, I shouldn't make light of it, that is completely dreadful. How the hell the "Bratz" brand got on the market is beyond me, never mind being used in schools. Do you feel like complaining or are you going to wait and see whether she comes home with a Ronald MacDonald picture tomorrow ?

Oh no what were they thinking? Someone bought my daughter a Bratz Annual for her 5th birthday and there were tips about how to strut your stuff in high heels or something so i sent it to the charity shop.

She probably printed them off herself, I dislike them but tbh no loads of kids who have played with them but are yet to don a pair of fishnets

I'd wait out the first week and see what else happens. It might just be a bit ill thought out. I wouldn't want it for my DD, although the teacher might just think it's something that the children would like to do.

Bratz is awful.

I'd wait and see...

I'd simply ask the teacher if she is aware of what "Bratz" actually is, whether she looked at the picture before handing it out (and the inappropriate attire/postures of the character), and ask her how that subject matter was relevant to whatever it was she was teaching the class that day. Simply, I'd ask her to justify her use of the material in as non confrontational a way as possible.

Might write a note. I can do 'so wimpy and roundabout that no-one understands what I'm actually talking about' or 'nutter with spittle flecks'. I seem to lack the middle ground gene.

Tbf, there won't have been any 'teaching' happening on the first day of any huge quality. There will have been a lot of housekeeping - this is where we keep the..., some activities, some making up class rules, some singing and yes, some colouring. She probably provided the children with a large range of pictures for them to choose from after lunch and those were the ones your DD chose.

But I like your example conversation!

Some of our Y1s coloured in and cut out some Ben 10 pictures today. Hopefully their parents won't be upset. Me and the teacher are doing guided activities in groups and the other children are doing chosing activities or continuous provision. A couple of the boys were really struggling at their choosing time, they found a Ben 10 book in the book browser and asked to do the activities, so I photocopies some and they did them - their choice, they settled and focused, their practised fine motor skills, etc. Similarly a small group of girls found some Barbie princess stencil books and laboured over them for a while too today.

Mind, I wouldn't have had Bratz in the classroom. I managed to avoid them for DD as it was . And seeig as some of the stuff like the stencil books came from DD as she grew out of them no bratz here.
