Isn't Demilea a small cheese? Perhaps a variant of Baby Belle?

I live in the US...its very common here.

and quite annoying Grin

PiousPrat · 05/09/2011 23:10

Yes, misspellings are annoying aren't they? Wink

Florin · 05/09/2011 23:28

I work for a travel company and they drive me mad. I now ask people to spell every name. I get a few raised eyebrows when I have asked them to spell like John but you will be amazed how often names are spelt strangely now. Worst thing is when friends book their flights for them and then get them wrong. Although we have a friend who has a normal name spelt strangely on her birth certificate and then she spells it another weird way for normal day to day life-very confusing!

A1980 · 05/09/2011 23:31

They'll be respelling for there whole life.

Hopefully you won't get corrected for the hole thread: I think you meant "their" and "lives". Grin

A1980 · 05/09/2011 23:32

I'll now correct myself: "whole"

Lousy typist I am Grin

MrBloomsNursery · 05/09/2011 23:32

With names like that, I really don't think spelling or academia will be on the top of their list of things to do. They won't mind ;)

MrsRhettButler · 05/09/2011 23:33

And I think you meant 'whole' A1980 Wink

I am an absolutely lousy typist. Look at most of my posts for examples. I miss entire letters out of words, get them the wrong way around. It happens when you use a dictation machine at work. You kind of lose the ability to do it yourself.

But then solicitors don't generally type their own letters, etc: time is money and all that bollocks.

There are probably several in this but I can't be arsed to check it.

DrPolidori · 05/09/2011 23:44

MrsBlooms, a slightly dismissive attitude towards children, who are named before they can either a) express their wishes or b)prove their academic potential.

I worked for three years in class of 30, and all had interesting names...I would be horrified if any of those lovely babies were dismissed because of the spelling of their names.

But hey, have a good laugh.

Fiendishlie · 05/09/2011 23:49

babbies??

worraliberty · 05/09/2011 23:53

Well Beyonce's baby is due in February

It'll be nice to know what every council estate child born 9 months later is going to be called....

Ok that was a joke and if you're going to lynch me, at least let me take my heels off so I can run Grin

MrBloomsNursery · 06/09/2011 00:03

Okay Drpolidori I will...Grin Please come back to me in 20 years time and show me how many Shaniqa's, Taniqshwas and Ty-reeses are academics. That'll teach me.

I think Beyonce will name her child with a Christian name. I don't know why but I think she will.

Whatmeworry · 06/09/2011 00:05

You might be horrified, but study after study shows they will be dismissed precisely because of their names. Sad, but true....

startail · 06/09/2011 00:22

my surname is one letter away from some thing much commoner. Has to be spelt every time, drives me nuts. I can't change my Father, but odd spellings for first names are just mean.

LDNmummy · 06/09/2011 01:48

MrBloom that is the second post I have seen you make that stinks of ignorance today.

I find it ironic considering you are commenting on other people's children being uneducated based solely on their names yet you display such stupidity yourself.

My sister has a name that people assume is of this 'ghetto' nature that MrBloom has alluded to above. In actual fact, it is a very classic and well known name in my fathers home country.

Children are dismissed on the basis of their names, but that is because of others' ignorance, not because their names actually define anything about their characters or abilities.

Pandemoniaa · 06/09/2011 01:51

I'm particularly affronted by "Ezmai" since my dgd has the beautiful, correctly spelled version as her middle name.

AnneWiddecomesArse · 06/09/2011 02:15

What's a Babby?

Thepoweroforangeknickers · 06/09/2011 02:32

I feel sorry for people who call babies "babbys"

Thepoweroforangeknickers · 06/09/2011 02:33

..and it's "their life" not "there life" OP. Bet you're now wishing you hadn't started this thread.

EricNorthmansMistress · 06/09/2011 07:26

Are these actual names you have seen attached to actual children, or are you just stirring?

And MrBloom - Please come back to me in 20 years time and show me how many Shaniqa's, Taniqshwas and Ty-reeses are academics.

These are African-American names. As valid as Jamal, Akhbar or Aisha, Francoise, Pascale or Pierre - would you ask how many muslims will become academics? Or french people? Presumably not - which makes you a bit thick racist in my view.
