to think that the school logo is not very inclusive?

We have been looking at all the local primary schools as DS2 may be on the Autistic Spectrum and he may not get all the support he needs at the school we originally chose for him.

We have found a really lovely primary for him which has a really positive attitude to SEN and has a Good Ofsted report as well.

BUT DH is really not keen on the schools logo which appears everywhere, in colour, including on sweatshirts, polo shirts, book bags etc.

The logo is of two parents and a child reading a book. The bodies of the people are in blue/green but the heads (just ovals no features) are all white/pale beige colour. DH is black and says he is a bit Hmm about the logo and it would have been better if they had kept the heads the same colours as the bodies (blue & green) rather than putting a white family on the logo.

Is he being over-sensitive? I am white and we live in a mainly white, rural area.

I do always notice that the local Sure Start Newsletter is filled with photos of a wide range of ethnicities so they have obviously made a real effort to do that.

What do you think?

v over-sensitive! you've found a great school, don't start picking it apart over the little details. I'm a single parent, I could get very offended about logos depicting 2 parents - but I don't!

My old school logo was a swan with a crown & chain round it's neck (looked like it was being strangled), the school never promoted animal cruelty. I wouldn't read too much into it tbh.

But who has blue/green heads? Coloured people? They probably just went for the cheapest/easiest option.

YABU ds school logo is a dragon doesn't mean you can only attend if you breathe fire.

The logo could also be offensive to single parents I suppose. No matter what there is always someone ready to be offended so where does it start and stop? It seems the logo only reflects the majority of the reality anyway.

ok so either your DH asks the school to redesign its logo, or he starts looking for another school that is as good and as near ... or he gets over himself.

YANBU I would be slightly put off too. But if you really like the school in all other ways I would try to ignore it.

Oh fgs.
You have found a school which will suit your son's needs...not easy.....and your dh is stressing about the logo.
Perhaps he should be a governor.

Curious no not at all - if he gets a place he can go there but DH would be slightly uncomfortable about the uniform. He'd never say anything or make them change it or anything - that's not his style. He would just quietly be offended by it.

Um, he is being oversensitive. Why shouldn't the school use the colour of the largest number of pupils? Surely that is most representative? If you visited a school in Nigeria and the logos had people with coloured faces would that be wrong?

the fact that the faces are featureless means it probably IS meant to be universal

I posted to see if he is BU which it seems he is as to me it's not a major issue. I can see his point that they could have just kept the heads the same colours as the bodies though. Might even have been cheaper as would
Simplify the design.

Sorry but im PMSL at this- he is very over sensitive and sounds like he will pull the race card at any opportunity. I mean im just CERTAIN they chose it to offend non white people...

Who is to say those people are meant to be the parents, They could be the school staff or other parents, like someone said what about single parents or same sex couples or are they sexless? I would say the fact that they have made them faceless means that they are aware of these issues and have done their best to avoid this problem.

What school is it? Tell us so we can find their website and look at the logo.

You have found a school which you think will be ideal for your son with autism, your dh needs to get a grip, believe me i have a son with autism and that will be the least of his worries.

He says people would not accept a logo with a black family on the front, say in a city where the majority of the children were black.... Anyone ever seen one I could show him?

The ppl are pretty sexless but I think they are meant to be the parents as they are kind of hugging the child.

If I name the school I will probably out myself as we are one of the only mixed race families in the area so I'd rather not.
