to think attitudes to disabilities in a themepark should be better...

We have exit passes for DS with ASD.

AIBU that "I'm going to kick their head in" cos they're "queue jumping", was neither clever nor original (especially after the third time my DP heard it during the day)

AIBU that pushing DS out the way (in the chest with some force) because he failed to respond instantly to your demand he "get out of your way" (whist waiting at the disabled exit) was just plain unpleasant Angry (I was bending down to move him at the time)

So many more similar incidents through the day.

I normal circumstances I wouldn't want to wish my son's disability on anyone, nor the days over backache that a themepark trip entitled before we knew about exit passes (from carrying DS through Queuelines kicking and screaming) however....

We shall retreat to Chessington where we have always found people lovely!!!

yeah take the chip and sod off love

ChippingIn · 03/09/2011 21:12

Herbietea I don't have a problem with wearing a "I am disabled" badge, as long as Spiderpig and the like wear one saying "I am an ignorant ct!" that may just be my favorite line in the whole thread Grin

Silverfrog - I am chuffed that you have had a great day out Grin and that your DD's may have another ride they can go on!!

I didn't know that the passes for disabled people etc were 'timed' for the 'big' rides - I can kind of see why they do it, but at the same time I would rather they didn't and that anyone with one of those could go on the ride again or another ride. To me it would be a small advantage that anyone with a disability would be welcome to!

Mouseface · 03/09/2011 21:13

Dandy - can I just pick up on that bit about being a 'normal' family. It means so so much. We have had our first holiday. All of us, the four of us, together.

Nemo (DS) had his first holiday, his first visit to the beach, his forest ever swim in a pool, his first ever paddle in the sea, his first ever sandy bottom! And his first ever visit to see fish in the sea zoo. He sat for ages, in front of the huge sea forest, just watching the fish going round and around.

For those minutes during those days, he was like every other little boy.

We got to be a family, all of us, at the same time. All together. That is priceless.

Mouseface · 03/09/2011 21:14

Thanks TSC, I thought so. Smile

ChippingIn · 03/09/2011 21:14

Mouseface - you really needed to ask? I thought it was perfectly clear who TSC was aiming her comments at, I mean she's not quite the only twat on the thread, but she's certainly the biggest.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/09/2011 21:16

Wishes the general public were all like TSC

ChippingIn · 03/09/2011 21:17

When I'm Queen/God/Mother Nature/In charge people like SP will be made to take care of someone with a disability - well several actually, just so she can understand what it is like.... of course, never, ever, ever alone. That would be too cruel. On the person with the disability.

silverfrog · 03/09/2011 21:17

thanks ChippingIn Smile - twas the first time dd2 (a tiny little scrap of a thing) has been brave enough to try anyhting "big", so we went on the PIrate Ship (dh ad I were grimacing and trying to make it look like laughter - dd2 shot both hands straight up into the air and laughed so hard I thought she would wet herself!) and the Runaway Train. There would appear to be no stopping her now - she was asking to go on Dragon's Fury Shock Grin. thanfully, it was the end of the day... (and equally thankfully she is only just scraping above a metre tall, so have a while to go before the really big ones kick in)

there never used ot be a time restriction on the exit passes - we've had Merlin passes for 3 years now, and they introduced them last year, I htink (didn't affect us as only going for the tinies rides). but then there never used ot be restrictions on which disabilities got exit passes either, and they have tightened that up quite a bit (mainly for "those who have trouble understanding the concept of queuing") too - maybe too many people using the system?

Larrie · 03/09/2011 21:18

G]God/mother nature only chooses the best to care for our kids ;)

ChippingIn · 03/09/2011 21:18

Fanjo - many of us are, we're just not as obvious as those who tut, push, comment and generally act like fuckwits. Though some of us can be quite vocal when we hear them Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/09/2011 21:19

Wish they were also like ChippingIn.,and the other nontwunts on this thread

ChippingIn · 03/09/2011 21:21

Silverfrog - when she's ready for the really big ones, give me a call - I'll be there in a shot!!

Did it ever feel to you like there were too many people in the 'exit queues'?

Mouseface · 03/09/2011 21:21

Grin - ChippingIn - I had to check, I've been a bit twatish today by all accounts on the gypsies thread. Just not very bright so it all comes out wrong. Blush

Larrie · 03/09/2011 21:21

I sent my son to a 'summercamp' for a day - the kids there were the meanest kids ever and made my sons life hell. He was distraught and I was devastated to see him so upset. They called him names, got up when he sat next to them and he has changed dramatically ever since. He was doing quite well at getting involved this summer and now he refuses to join in with anyone. Today has been the saddest day of my life with him so far and I have been so upset and angry, so am not suffering fools gladly right now.

MmmmmCake · 03/09/2011 21:23

maybe a daft question, but why would you take a child on a ride he obviously wasnt going to enjoy and end up everyone in the family gettting upset

you may say "because he has a right to go on those rides"

yes OK, but you know he cant cope with x y and z, so for heavens sake, just do the stuff he wont get stressed over.

LunarRose · 03/09/2011 21:26

MmmmmCake: Because the kids like the rides, just like any other kid and in my DS more because of his sensory issues.

The queueing and the ride ending, now that's the hard bit

What post are you referring to MmmmmCake?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/09/2011 21:30

Larrie - have a huge hug

wasuup3000 · 03/09/2011 21:31

Sorry to hear that Larrie! ((hugs))

ChippingIn · 03/09/2011 21:32

Mouseface - OH I see! I have avoided the travellers thread as I thought my blood pressure may not cope!

Fanjo - ya nana, I wasn't looking for a pat on the back - I was just saying there's more support/understanding out there than it must feel like at times x

Larrie :( sorry to hear that. I did somewhat object to your first post, but given the day you've had we'll just gloss over that one ... How old were the little shits children?
