to think it's perfecty acceptable to have a zombie apocalypse survival plan?

My friends think I'm weird. Me and my husband have had long conversations talking about what we'd do if Z-day ever came. Admittedly we're both big horror film geeks (which could be seen as a bit weird to be fair).

Does anyone else do this or is it just us?

No it was Mira Grant I think,Beer.

Catsdontcare · 01/09/2011 22:54

I take it the whole I am legend zombie super powers is a ridiculous notion? Cause I never understood how humans can suddenly climb up Walls and hang from the ceiling.

figgygal · 01/09/2011 22:56

God I'm so glad Its not just me Grin

I don't have an actual plan but a heightened awareness that our patio doors and conservatory are not very zombie proof. Have thought it since we moved in and husband thinks I'm bonkers,

bullet234 · 01/09/2011 22:56

Suction pads Catsdontcare.

And I am now having kittens as to whether to put an apostrophe in your name or not.

babycham42 · 01/09/2011 23:01

I think it"s just those sort of notions that you get in films that make us zombie survivalists a laughing stock.
If only they would stick with real life zombies rather than embellishing the truth...
I don"t believe in that sort of zombie Catsdontcare, but if anyone has any more info on that sort with some compelling evidence,I may include them in my survival plan just to be on the safe side.

Catsdontcare · 01/09/2011 23:07

No need for the apostrophe bullet mn doesn't allow apostrophes in nicknames so the pedants will just have to have itchy teeth when they read it. Catsdontcare neither do I.

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 23:11

Catsdontcare - they are technically vampires in I Am Legend, not zombies. Well, not in the movie but in the book (one of the original great sci fi books), they are definintely vampires. So ignore the movie as a source of zombie info.

And in the book, they publically execute him and take over the world. Just ... to be a pessimist.

babycham42 · 01/09/2011 23:13

Is I am Legend "The Omega Man" Cubiks?

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 23:19

babycham, yes, The Omega Man was one of the adaptations. It was originally I Am Legend in the 1950's, written by Richard Matheson . There are a couple more adaptations ... one film I saw was The Last Man on Earth.

To be fair, there is a Zombie element because the 'infected' hang around a lot being aimless but in the original they do create their own society and are very compos mentis. More vampires in the original, in terms of behaviour. IMHO.

babycham42 · 01/09/2011 23:32

This whole zombie/vampire lark is becoming increasingly ill-defined!
How on Earth is anyone supposed to have an effective zombie apocalypse survival plan if we don"t know our enemy.
I think I"m gonna get strict here. IMO a zombie is a human who succumbs to(probably) a virus and when dies,re-animates.Once a zombie the creature tries to kill and feed off living uninfected humans.Once bitten by a zombie you become a zombie and the only way to kill a zombie is by decapitation/shooting in the brain/destroying brain function.
I believe zombies can walk and run but not climb.I think they work on animal instinct rather than intelligence.
Anyone care to add or correct?

BalloonSlayer · 02/09/2011 08:54

usingmainlyspoons I am loving the idea that Marian Keyes writes novels suitable for coping with the Zombie apocalypse. Good old Marian!

Does her work include such gems as:

Lucy Sullivan is getting her brains eaten

and

Rachel's Undeath

seeker · 02/09/2011 08:58

I have an Oh Fuck rucsac. I pretend it's for impromptu trips to the beach......

ScarletLady01 · 02/09/2011 10:46

Hahaaa this thread has made my morning. I had to duck out last night due to Big Bang Theory commitments. Some great ideas here most definitely!

Also, AIBU to think one of the upsides to the zombie apocalypse is that we can all run around looking like Alice from the Resident Evil films, or possibly Tank Girl??

OP posts:
seeker · 02/09/2011 11:33

I like the association of Marian Keyes and The Big Bang Theory! I would have though that was more Jilly Cooper's territory........

Catsdontcare · 02/09/2011 15:28

Ah didn't know that about I am legend. I shall disregard any survival tips from that film then.

I do think that rather than the undead we are more likely to be taken over by madmen like in the crazies due to bio weapons and that is more worriesome to me. Zombies just want to bite you which is avoidable but the crazy one will burn down your house and they can still drive and stuff

DawnTiggaWeirdyBeardy · 02/09/2011 15:36

YANBU, those that don't and have no transferable skills are there to slow the zombies down.

You'veBeenWarnedTiggaxx

Catsdontcare · 02/09/2011 15:38

Absolutely Dawn and you skilless, unprepared types are on your own!

ledkr · 02/09/2011 16:22

i am hoping the Zombies round our way will be of the moaning staggering variety and not the running ones we have seen of late. And dont wast your time on body wounds,go for the head fgs.

ZombiePlan · 02/09/2011 20:10

Am v pleased to hear that the I Am Legend style zombies couldn't really exist - it makes zombie planning much easier when you only have to consider the slow shambling variety like the ones in Shaun of the Dead. Plus, the thought of those speedy climbing zombies is scary...

OTOH, if vampires exist, then if they are anything like Eric from True Blood I shall be running towards them as fast as I'd run away from a zombie...

SarahStratton · 02/09/2011 20:22

Or Angel. Now if Angel floated up to my bedroom window...

iFailedTheTuringTest · 02/09/2011 20:44

Can I join. I can shoot, do archery and use a chainsaw. I have a bow and arrows, a jolly nice rifle, but no chainsaw or cake.

SarahStratton · 02/09/2011 20:47

Can we list our survival skills here please :)

seeker · 03/09/2011 18:51

I can shoot and gut the kill. And bake flatbread on a barbecue. I can also sew and tie knots. And dye things pretty colours with plants. Oh, and I can fillet fish. And I am relentlessly cheerful- which may or may not be a survival skill- it doesn't work too well in the early mornings at home!

SarahStratton · 03/09/2011 18:57

I will be relentlessly cheerful with you seeker. I find I'm somewhat ostracised in the mornings.

Mia4 · 03/09/2011 20:29

No YANU, you may be seen as slightly weird by other people but me and my guy have done the same. Infact my best friend knows where to meet me (if we make it) if such an attack was to occur.

And obviously, there's certainly one health organisation that agrees with you (though obv this is applicable to most apocalypic scenarios
