My friends think I'm weird. Me and my husband have had long conversations talking about what we'd do if Z-day ever came. Admittedly we're both big horror film geeks (which could be seen as a bit weird to be fair).

Does anyone else do this or is it just us?

The Oh Fuck Rucksack is a new one on me, but I like that idea. We've always thought in more of a "create a base and go out on missions" type of scenario.

Checking in Grin

Cubiks - is that the Max Brooks one? I have that also.

Scarletlady01 - a base is essential. Somewhere without many windows.
Tower of London always seemed plausible to me.

Cubiks - our flat is perfect. It's second floor and we have a massive lockable iron gate.

Scarlet, yes it is the Max Brooks one. It's the best I've read so far.

I recently read a fiction book called Warm Bodies which was excellent. Romantic Lead played by a Zombie called 'R'. Awesome. But ultimately useless for survival tips.

BeerTricksPotter - if Z's can run, we're fucked, put it that way, so let's assume they can't. At least not after a week or so of death.

Kladdkaka · 01/09/2011 21:03

We actually have a nuclear bomb shelter in our garden. (Seriously, we do.) This will double up for all armegeddon senarios. (Apart from flooding)

SarahStratton · 01/09/2011 21:04

The OFRS is a necessity as most of us will not live in an area suitable for defending plus sustaining life. It will enable us to travel light, but safely, to HMS Mumsnet (aka The Matriark). From there we will sail to Sark, chosen because it is a small, easily defended island with a good infrastructure already in place.

If it proves too cold in the winter, we can all board the Matriark and sail off to somewhere warmer.

Do NOT forget your looting stick.

Catsmamma · 01/09/2011 21:05

our work staffroom is pretty zombie proof.

second floor, windows are all barred, access is via three lockable doors, one also code entry only.

there are further rooms upstairs, and over roof access to the Co-op, Poundland and Home Bargains. Dorothy perkins, and Burton also available for clean clothes and an electrical shop with mahoosive tvs, so if we have electricity we can keep up with the world news.

so if I am at work on Z-day, I am so saved!

ScarletLady01 · 01/09/2011 21:05

That sounds like a pretty solid plan Sarah. It's comforting to know others have thoughts like this.

You need to be keeping a sturdy pony in your back garden.

CurlyBoy · 01/09/2011 21:06

In surviving any zombie attack you need guns. Lots of guns. I've made myself aware of all of the local TA, army, and police sites likely to have them handy. In the panic of Z-day I figure these will be unguarded and easy picking. All I'd need then is a stock of canned goods and I'd be set!

ScarletLady01 · 01/09/2011 21:07

The only possible problem with guns is the noise factor. I'd consider them an only use when necessary weapon. Hack and slash all the way!

I have a highly complex transatlantic Zombie Plan which involves comandeering and de-zombifying a cruise-liner from Southampton, collecting various friends, family and celebrities from both the UK and the US, before high-tailing it off to Iceland (good climate, small population, plenty of geothermal energy) to commence the rebuilding of civilisation.

People mock me now. When the Zombiepocalypse hits and I am ready they will see the wisdom of my ways, oh yes.

Grin
SarahStratton · 01/09/2011 21:09

That's what silencers are for Grin

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 01/09/2011 21:09

Aargh - "commandeering". Good spelling is also a vital part of any plan.

Curlyboy - guns are flawed. Could many people shoot a gun with any accuracy over any sort of distance? And what about if it jams or runs out of bullets at an ipportune moment? Have a gun by all means, but make sure you have a solid back-up weapon. Or join a shooting range.

You need a weapon you can consistently wield - the shaolin crescent moon axe is perfect and can be bought over the internet for a descent price. I highly recommend it.

SarahStratton, Sark sounds like a really solid survival plan. I always thought floating cities of yachts tied together ... but dry land is always a good thing.

CubiksRube - I'm an ex-American, of course I can shoot! The idea is to have at least two loaded at any one time with my partner reloading as we go. I'd also have a nice aluminium bat for back up, just in case! An ax it problematic. What if it sticks in the zombie skull and you can't pull it out???

LadyBeagleEyes · 01/09/2011 21:15

And as far as I recall I shall be in the looting pary.
I will bring wine, cigarettes and all the toiletries our hearts desire.
And I believe Johnny Depp will be sequestered, I believe as breeding stock.
There were countless more but I've forgotten them

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 21:17

True, MadamDeathstare - (I subscribe to staggering around on the ocean floor rather than actual swimming) this is why I thought floating cities. As long as the water is deep and you don't drop anchor, you can float above the Z's to a non-infested area.

An island is far more defendable than a flat, however, so not a bad second option. You'd need lookouts and some search lights rigged up over the water. Once under water Zs probably have little sense of direction so a full-scale attack on a remote island is unlikely, probably just get a few stragglers, mostly decomposed by saltwater.
