to think it's perfecty acceptable to have a zombie apocalypse survival plan?

My friends think I'm weird. Me and my husband have had long conversations talking about what we'd do if Z-day ever came. Admittedly we're both big horror film geeks (which could be seen as a bit weird to be fair).

Does anyone else do this or is it just us?

CubiksRube I think running zombies are a way scarier thought than underwater ones so I hope you"re right! For sure, when the day comes I shall make no assumptions when it comes to zombies and water.I simply refuse to believe in vampires and werewolves though.

Sarah, do you have a route and RV"s planned or will it depend on the location of outbreaks?

SarahStratton · 01/09/2011 21:51

CaptainTrips. Arrrrrrrrrrghhh. Shock

God no, I spend an inordinate amount of time working out World End survival plans. There are so many permutations, it requires a lot of thought.

Pandemics.
Zombies.
War inc Riots.
Meteors.
Ice Ages.
Solar Flares.

I'm sure I've forgotten a few. Plus, there's always the short term ones, like massive flooding.

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 21:51

I accept vamps and weres are a little, um, 'out there' to believe in. I've spent too long with my sci fi and horror collection, maybe. Still, they didn't used to believe Einstein ... Blush

averageyorkshiremum - outward facing sunbeds - lol! But also, inspired. On the other hand, in many vampire references, they are able to walk in sunlight. Eat garlic. Hold crosses. Who knows ... it's a constantly shifting paradigm.

SarahStratton · 01/09/2011 21:54

Oh and then there is the chunk falling off one of the Canary Islands. That will create a massive tsunami that will hit us. Plus a supervolcano going off. Volcanic winters, that sort of thing.

I think I may be overthinking all this.

bullet234 · 01/09/2011 21:55

My masterplan is to keep very quiet. However, I would have a large rock on a big piece of elastic so I could drop it onto zombies heads from on high and then haul it up again once their brains had been bashed in.

Nihilisticbunny · 01/09/2011 21:57

Is Sark near any nuclear power stations? I doubt zombie nuclear technicians will turn up for work, it wouldn't be pretty if they overheated.

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 21:58

I've reviewed my survival plans. No islands, no convoy, no sieging myself into an island. This thread has set me off course.

No - if we try and drive out of cities, everyone else will be doing it too (of course) and it will be mayhem, gridlock. I'm back to my mountain back, DS in sling, light backpack full of beef jerky - finding boltholes until we reach the water and then 'borrowing' a boat, stocking it and heading for deep water.

Sorted.

ItsTimeToBurnThisDiscoDown · 01/09/2011 21:58

DH and I have spent numerous hours discussing the Zombie apocalypse; there's an MOD base quite near us which we would go and get guns and a tank or some other armoured vehicle. So, YANBU.

And I have also read Warm Bodies Cubiks, I would recommend it too.

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 21:58

Sarah, you can never overthink.

While everyone else is busy dying, we'll be picking up our rucksacks and making headway. Beat the traffic.

sarah- will you be sailing towards Mother Abigail?? I'll see you in the cornfields!

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 22:02

mountain bike* idiot spelling.

Nihilisticbunny · 01/09/2011 22:02

Does anyone remember a post on one of these threads by a mn who did recorded messages for mobile networks, she had to do one that went something like "due to recent events, the network is unavailable, please bear with us" or something like that, sent a chill down my spine that did.

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 22:03

ROFLMAO, BeerTricks. Well, actually staring intently at the screen, but the will is there.

babycham42 · 01/09/2011 22:03

CubiksRube you are of course right about gridlock.
But I like to think that those of us who are more prepared will be looking out for signs right from the start and evacuate the cities way before those who currently scoff at our plans....

SarahStratton · 01/09/2011 22:04

The Ark Royal may come to Mablethorpe according to Wiki. That's only half an hour from me and it's country roads all the way...

CubiksRube · 01/09/2011 22:08

Babycham, indeed, you're completely right! And if it were up to me, I'd have left when 'swine flu' hit. However DP is apparently a 'realist' and won't move until it's almost too late.

Choice between leaving him to undoubtedly get gnawed on (he's lovely, but flappy) or stay and drag him out at the 9th hour.

There was a series of horror comics/graphic novel stories written in the 1990s called Deadworld, which looks as though it's being continued now, in which some of the zombies were intelligent and could handle locks and the sailing of the Ark Royal with ease.

babycham42 · 01/09/2011 22:12

Thats the real problem isn"t it Cubiks? Would look such an arse if you phoned up work to say you wouldn"t be in because of the zombie apocalypse that"s unfolding just to find out it"s the kids down the youth club got hold of some home brew.
And if you left DP to get gnawed he"d never forgive you if you"d got it all wrong....
