to ask people to turn it down a notch with all the exclamation marks

Because it is really annoying if you pepper your posts with exclamation marks at the end of every single statement! Like this! Is there any need!

Plus if you use more than half a dozen exclamation marks you come across as really thick!!!!!!!!

Stop it! Or go back to the Daily Mail comments section!

Kayano · 01/09/2011 10:44

I use them all the time!!!

This is how I speak!!!

Like an excited Australian!!!

Catsmamma · 01/09/2011 10:44

I don't suppose you like multiple questionmarks either????

IggyPup · 01/09/2011 10:44

I post on another forum and they jump down your throat for poor grammar, poor spelling and a tendency to overegg the exclamation mark pudding.

This is a forum where contributers are occasionally told to fuck off or described as cunts.

I think your annoyance is petty.

ItAintHalfHotHun · 01/09/2011 10:45

I couldn't care less really if you scatter apostrophes all over the place, don't use capital letters, say lol or use text speak.

But exclamation marks all over posts. It does my swede in.

I think it is a truism that the more exclamation marks in a post = the more numbskulled the statement.

Really!?!?!?! You must be an English teacher! Sorry to annoy you!!!!!!! Wink

YANBU to ask!

However, I reckon I'll continue to type as I please.

MotherMucca · 01/09/2011 10:46

Oh! I think it makes one sound fun! And carefree!!!!!!!

IggyPup · 01/09/2011 10:47

Sorry, I meant:

Your annoyance is petty!!!!!!

ItAintHalfHotHun · 01/09/2011 10:47

For example:

"i'm sorry but I have to go out to work, I don't want to pay my taxes for people to buy plasma TVs with all their benefits!!!!!'

'what's wrong with smacking your kiddiez, it never did me any harm!!!!!!'

OP posts:
ItAintHalfHotHun · 01/09/2011 10:49

It doesn't make you sound fun - it makes you sound like one of those 'I'm mad and bubbly, me' types who always seem to be the organisers of hen nights.

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 01/09/2011 10:49

Yup, you asked for it.

pippilongsmurfing · 01/09/2011 10:52

FFS, does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?

Are you the new self appointed grammer police? Hmm

ItAintHalfHotHun · 01/09/2011 10:54

No, I am the GRAMMAR POLICE hun

Nah, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but neither does 76% of threads on mumsnet, frankly.

OP posts:
ItAintHalfHotHun · 01/09/2011 10:55

Neither do

OP posts:
MotherMucca · 01/09/2011 10:57

Oh, I am crazy kerazzyy, me!!!!! And bonkerz!!!!1

Wink
poppyknot · 01/09/2011 10:57

I am more of an ellipsis girl myself........
According to Wikipaedia at the end of a sentence it can indicate a feeling of melancholy longing........ So now I know I look like an angsty teenager....

It annoys the hell out of me and would not be something that I would do in handwritten text.........

Oh hell..................
