On BBC local news in NE tonight: sorry I'm too much of a luddite to link it.

Anyway, establishment is The Lakeside pub and restaurant in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. A woman was told to leave whilst having a meal with her family for breastfeeding her 6 week old baby. She obviously stated that this was illegal, but they humiliated her by insisting she left.

lololololol at Fabby claiming to be the voice of reason whilst equating bf to shitting

catgirl1976 · 30/08/2011 20:12

Ah piglet don't be dreading it :) I am pg with first too and I won't think twice about it. What are you worried about - I hope it isnt other people and what they might think? It's a lovely, natural thing.

When is yours due (congrats btw!)

Maiavan · 30/08/2011 20:12

Oh FFS Fabby! So if the majority of people in a restaurant didnt want a black/white/red haired person there, then it would be ok to throw them out? Thank the pope that sane, reasonable and grow up people make the laws!

FriggFRIGG · 30/08/2011 20:15

those things seriously just draw attention to you
,i was chatting to a guy i knew years ago whilst feeding DD,he was sat right opposite me and had NO idea i was feeding her.
you just need practice,im a ninja now with DC2 Grin i can feed whilst walking around!

good luck piglet!!Grin

HerdOfTinyElephants · 30/08/2011 20:25

Consider this thread for a moment.

Mind you, I expect that AlistairSim wasn't being discreet. Never having breastfed her DS at all ever just isn't discreet enough; she should have kept him twenty feet from her at all times so that no one would get the wrong idea.

Or, perhaps, some people are ignorant bigoted tossers and look for any opportunity to be "offended" by "breastfeeding" and talk of being discreet is just smokescreen to cover that up.

Gosh, I wonder which it might be...

MissVerinder · 30/08/2011 20:28

Grin at Fabby because she's not really thinking that, is she? Is she?

HerdOfTinyElephants · 30/08/2011 20:30

Mind you, if I do get to stipulate who should be excluded from restaurants I frequent, "people who apparently can't draw any distinction between eating and shitting" would be very high on the list. Because, well, you'd never know when they might get confused...

Andrewofgg · 30/08/2011 20:35

Wetting myself laughing, HerdOfTinyElephants, which I guess would rightly get me excluded from this and most other restaurants.

MissVerinder · 30/08/2011 20:36

Hello Andrew

Being impartial (as in not the owner of boobies), whaddya think?

glenthebattleostrich · 30/08/2011 20:38

My mum lives quite close to this pub and having eaten in there in the past I have to say (particularly to Fabby!) that some of the women who eat in there show a hell of a lot more boob than I do when feeding. The last time I did seriously wonder if one girl was touting for trade IYSWIM.

Oh and please stop comparing feeding a baby to taking a shit. They occur at opposite ends of the body!

Flisspaps · 30/08/2011 20:40

Fabby Or is it oh fuck it I breastfeed you can put up with it whether you like it or not

Erm, yes. That's exactly how it is.

thisisnoton · 30/08/2011 20:47

Glen, did you or your mum see this on the news then? I live north of the river so don't really know area too well.

Andrewofgg · 30/08/2011 20:47

See my post of 19:38:12, MissVerinder

Agree with OP unless she was being deliberately showoffy and offensive which is highly unlikely. God all bloody mighty, it's what they were designed for.

Abraham Lincoln said that a man has nipples so that in the highly unlikely case that he has a baby the child won't starve. Well, it's as good an explanation as any for an otherwise pointless feature, isn't it? :o

Like your screen-name and I know where it comes from!

pigletmania · 30/08/2011 20:48

Thanks catgirlsorry had to put dd to bed she was getting overtired. Congratulations too, dc is due on the 14th Jan when are you due. I hope I won't need the hooter hider but might invest in one just incase there are Fabbys about Wink

PrincessJenga · 30/08/2011 20:49

Oh dear, I'm glad this wasn't the pub I was in on Sunday... my LO still feeds every two hours (don't worry Fabby, he's getting enough food, but he's only two weeks old so his tummy isn't big enough to take in any more at a time) and isn't very good at staying latched on so I do sometimes find myself exposed. Regardless, I went out for Sunday lunch with friends and fed him at the table. Gasp! Shock! Horror! While other people were eating! Really!

Initially I thought I was getting dirty looks from the table next to us, but it turned out they were just mesmerised by the baby (wanted a good chat and a coo once we'd all finished our dinner). The only comment I got from the manager was "Oh typical, he wanted feeding when your dinner arrived? Do you want us to heat it up for you when you're ready to eat?" Now that is how it should be.

pigletmania · 30/08/2011 20:49

Thanks Frigg, I wish I discovered MN when I was pg with dd, getting my Fenugeek supply at the ready

catgirl1976 · 30/08/2011 20:49

:) Fabby will hunt you down and cover your shameful breasts!

Due 15th November...........can't wait )

TurkeyBurgerThing · 30/08/2011 20:50

It's just another fine example of how a male dominated opinion on the sexualisation of breasts has changed the way human evolution continues....

TattyDevine · 30/08/2011 20:52

Oh Fabby you talk such arse. Its hilarious Grin

Wendy will be along in a minute no doubt.

pigletmania · 30/08/2011 20:53

herdoftinyelephants Grin at Fabby getting confused.

redheadbedhead · 30/08/2011 20:53

piglet are you on our Jan 2012 ante-natal thread? if not come and join us Smile (if you want) - luckily Fabby is NOT on there.

Annpan88 · 30/08/2011 20:57

People don't even care if your discreet if they don't like breast feeding. I was on a train and moved from a more open part to a little 2 seater row and covered myself with a scarf. The men who I was originally next 2 saw what I was doing and kept turning round to look disgusted at me.

I was completely covered and far away from them thus it was just the idea that someone was breast feeding that offended them. Pillocks.

Tanith · 30/08/2011 21:05

I'm sure I read somewhere that all foetuses start off as girls and that's why men have nipples.

pigletmania · 30/08/2011 21:07

awww thats great cat, a couple of months before me. I would read the breast/bottlefeeding section they are so good. Post a thread with the title: Things you need to know about breastfeeding, and you will get some very useful information Smile

theinet · 30/08/2011 21:08

when people are paying for dinner in a restaurant, they don't want to see women with their tits out feeding a baby.

sorry - go elsewhere or to the toilet if you want to breastfeed - a restaurant where other guests are eating next to you just isn't the place.
