To want to spend £20k on holidays and nice things?

well almost!

I want to put 4k aside for a family trip to florida
Split the remaining £16k between me and dh
Leaving me with £8k to spend.
Want to take dd and me to hong kong and dubai, two places i have always wanted to go but could never a) go because of flying phobia and b) afford it. That about £4k.
Then a trip to vegas, grand canyon and california for me and dh. Bout 2k i reckon which leaves me with 2k, which i will probably use as spendng money.

So AIBU to just want to blow it on nice things? We have a fairly small and cheap mortgage, and i have a minimal amount on my card.

Pay for the family holiday first, then save some, THEN split the rest.

The immediate issue was sorted on the nhs
The rest on my bupa cover, which the claim settles separately.
My psychological issues were also treated on the nhs

Generally when you get a pay off you end up having to pay for treatment is that not happening?

Will this be your first offer of compensation as usually that is low and you have to go back and say no and haggle?

My childrens father ended up with £47k compensation for a car accident he was in, took over three years to sort.

mosschops - apologies re. glib 1st post.
You've got me intrigued...
But it does sound like you've got very optimistic about pay out. Would it not be better to wait until it arrives, see how much, cool off and go from there?

Just out of interest, how did you cure your phobia of flying?

And BTW if I came into a bit of money I would spunk it all on nice stuff as well!

Paul mckennas download from his website (he answered my question on his webchat on here).
Didnt think it would work having tried, exposure therapy, CBT, drink, sedatives, hypnotherapy in the past.
Listened to it every night for 2 weeks.
Have flown twice since and am absolutely fine (previously one of those people who grip the seat screaming 'we're all gonna die' at the slightest bit of turbulence), you wouldnt believe the problems ive caused in the past.
But now it doesnt bother me, i dont love it, but i can do it Smile. Best £15 i ever spent

Bloody hell I might give that a go! Have you been on a longish flight yet?

I haven't been on a plane for four years, just get the train/boat all over europe.

If you like Paul McKenna, you'll love Jonathan Cainer... and you could get a whol load of personal forecasts for £2k.
And after that, well, the world's yer oyster...

20k would be quite low for a medical compo claim, they usually start about 35k min, so hopefully you can burn up 20k then save 15k.

either way, this money is a result of something horrible happeniing to you, so you should spend it in anyway you like, and besides if you've had a flying phobia which you've now got over, you must be due a fair few years worth of fab holidays right?
back date them for the past 10 years of hols you've missed out on.

spend it and enjoy it.

when its gone think, well i started with nothing, and no i have nothing

YABU to say that dh could only cope with 2 nights in Vegas! Shock
You'll need at least 4/5 nights there! Grin

billcompton i did 4 hours to the canaries which would have been impossible to me before, the most i could do was 2 hours, and that was a struggle. Tbh its not about time now, i wouldnt care how long it was, id be bored, but not terrified!

carrie it depends on who is making the offer, we are making this one. Its been 18 months of professionals reviewing stuff and interviewing me, then barrister assessing the claim. Its a myth that the nhs just settle for anything, its not been an easy ride

£2k spending money? I can't quite figure out whether that's just for the last holiday or all three.

It's not £20K though is it, it's £12K. Your hubby will still have £8K. :o

If you want to stay in nice hotels in America I think you have underbudgeted that part of your trip.

Anyway how you spend your money is entirely up to you.

Have a fabulous time. :) Envy
