Disabled parking badges are for the designated places NOT where the hell you like

Really need a vent! Am sick to death of seeing cars parked in the parent and baby/toddler spaces just because they have a blue badge, and not a child in sight Angry The other way around and you wouldn't hear the end of it about inconsiderate parents etc. I fully agree with the need for the disabled spaces etc, but I don't like having to choose between leaving my baby locked in the car to return the trolley (especially if out of sight) and him getting totally soaked etc if I take him with me.
Disclaimer This is made more annoying for the particular store I am referring to as there are only 2 parent spaces, and more than a dozen disabled badge holder ones. Yet because the parent ones are in between the two sets, they use those and leave all the other badge spaces empty.

is this where I say I was beaten to death every night before bed etc etc

ConstanceNoring · 28/08/2011 11:49

I do love a good P&C thread, I agree with lohby, but it's a bit late now Grin

Blueberties · 28/08/2011 11:50

Also the number of obese people is rising hugely, if R4 is to be believed. It is quite difficult to get out of a car in a normal sized space if you are a larger person so I think we are going to need much wider spaces for many reasons.

SenoritaViva · 28/08/2011 11:51

Honestly you sound utterly selfish. Just because there is a little inconvenience for you because of your baby that you have CHOSEN to have, over a disabled person.

God, get a grip.

As long as there are no vertical stripes on the kerb you can park on double yellows, although if you cause an obstruction you can be prosecuted. Otherwise you can park wherever you need to to facilitate access to places.

Perhaps the OP would like to swap and deal with my three? If the disabled bays are full wtf am I supposed to do?

OP, you know what you can do.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 28/08/2011 11:54

yes, yes!
Parking spaces for very fat people, and for people with nice shoes who don't want to get them spoiled and for people with new cars who don't want them scratched.
Valet parking for supermarkets should solve all the problems, and increase graduate employment opportunities.

fedupofnamechanging · 28/08/2011 11:54

why is she selfish/ Because she'd like people to park in the space right next to the p&c ones, so she too could park and get her kids in the car more easily. how very unreasonable of her!

Empusa · 28/08/2011 11:54

Fair point ruby

MyDadWasADesertRat · 28/08/2011 11:54

OP I'd gracefully concede defeat on this one. You seem to be saying that you think that blue badgers are unreasonably taking the p&c spaces whereas the rest (bar two) strongly disagree and think you're waaaaay out of line.

You've asked AIBU and MN has answered. Think it over and worry less about who should be parking where.

Kayano · 28/08/2011 11:55

It made me snigger too, but then I remembered that I actually
Know someone with a blue badge who has nothing wrong with them but they are extremely obese and therefore need help getting around.

It's quite sad

Sadly, OP, you are wrong.

Disabled badges do allow them to park pretty much whoever they like so suck it up and use your legs and brain. It's not impossible to use an ordinary space.

I have three disabled children, one of which is a toddler!!! Funny that. Doesn't happen does it.... oh wait....

My local ASDA the blue badge bays are ALWAYS full. Not always with badge holders but that's another thread. So I use P&T to take my disabled toddler (and other disabled children) shopping. So sorry if that's inconvenient.

Oh, and Paignton Morrisons actually has P&T spaces closer to the store than the disabled ones. That makes sense doesn't it?

MyDadWasADesertRat · 28/08/2011 11:59

ruby, empusa I have a disabled child and park in either zone and get filthy looks and abuse often (from both sides) which is why I'm even on this ridiculous thread.

Empusa · 28/08/2011 11:59

Corvax Grin

lilmissminx · 28/08/2011 12:00

OK - just to clarify. I don't like leaving him out of sight because someone smashed the car window previously, breaking in to it , when I was just putting a trolley back.

And the spaces are all in one row, so no 'benefit' to P&c spaces. If badge spaces were full I wouldn't have any opinion, but as the space is there to help, it can be of use.
Senorita - it's not OVER anyone, that's the point. There are many badge spaces to choose from.
I appreciate many opinions.

squeakytoy · 28/08/2011 12:00

We should be campaigning for bigger parking spaces in general, not fighting each other. I know of families that have to have 7 seaters to get around, they wasn't needed years ago

Bigger spaces means less spaces overall. If you have a big vehicle, you just use common sense and park at the back of the store, where it is quieter and you can fit your vehicle easily and park it so that everyone can get in and out without any problem.

5inthebed · 28/08/2011 12:00

Ah but Glitterknickaz, do you use your blue badge in the P&T spaces? because that would just be wrong! Wink

gorionine · 28/08/2011 12:00

"And nobody is going to pinch your child from your locked car while you return the trolley. Car parks are not full of peadophiles and child smuggling rings."

If people are really scared though, there is always the possibility (a bit wacky I know) that one should leave the child on the trolley on the way to the trolley station, then take one's child out and carry it safely back to one's car.Smile

SoupDragon · 28/08/2011 12:01

TBH, the ones at fault here are the car park operators who have made it unclear by sticking parent spaces in the middle of disabled ones. This is just stupid. Complain to them, don't bitch about disabled badge holders who are doing nothing wrong.

lilmissminx · 28/08/2011 12:01

Mydadwasadesertrat Fair comment.

There's always been those volvos with the extra row of seats in the back.
