Good for you Fabby- I gave up smoking the first time, do I have the right to preach to those who haven't managed and tell them im tired of their excuses?

ChunkyPickle · 24/08/2011 18:34

I think my point is that yes, of course pretty much anyone can lose weight, but it's very much harder for some than it is for others - even if you're trying to eat less, if you have to literally weigh every single item that goes in your mouth because you don't know when you've eaten too much then that's a whole lot more effort than someone who can tell when they're full.

I'd liken it to saying something like 'all those dyslexics with their poor English, they just need to spell correctly!' sure, that's technically correct, but it's an awful lot more effort for them, and being critical just makes you an arse.

I found cutting carbs the only effective way to lose weight - it works, as simple as that. I've reintroduced some carbs like beans and have kept the weight off. Exercise and calorie counting made me fatter. Exercise is important for cardiovascular health and general well-being but doesn't shift weight. I didn't believe this until I tried it - I think carbs generally (from beer to pasta) should have a health warning on them.

Crosshair · 24/08/2011 18:47

Im not keen on donuts with or without icing.

ChumleeIsMyHomeboy · 24/08/2011 18:53

I'm glad you said that TakeMeDrunkImHome - it is precisely what I have been thinking for some time now.

rightothatsmethen · 24/08/2011 18:56

Really if you take thyroxine, it should be the thing that stops you putting on weight.

cardibach · 24/08/2011 18:56

Cutting out carbs just makes me ill. I don't eat donuts at all, definitely not 6 every other day Shock. I eat healthy food, just in portions which are too big for my faulty metabolism to cope with. I can lose weight by eting less and moving more, but it is hard. I am managing it (slowly) but if I compare it with how I was before my thyroid packed up it is bloody difficult. Before that, I could give up puddings and lose 1-2 pounds a week. I don't eat puddings in the first place now. I'm running out of things to give up!

onagar · 24/08/2011 18:56

not unreasonable OP, just really stupid.

worraliberty · 24/08/2011 18:58

I get irritated by people who continually moan about their weight and then do nothing about it.

But then again, I get irritated by people who moan about anything they can change if they put a lot of effort in, but choose not to.

cardibach · 24/08/2011 18:58

righto thyroxine goes some way to restoring your body's natural metabolism. Nobody can tell whether the level is really correct because thyoid levels are in a normal range and you never have it tested before there is a problem so don't even know what normal for you is. I got this from my Doctor, it's not just made up. It can help you stop weight gain, but it isn't guaranteed.

Excellent OP

Take it you are offering to come and look after my disabled kids whilst I 'just get out more', and that you have evidence to contravene the studies about lack of sleep affecting weight?

Now I know I used to eat too much but I stopped that, am bloody struggling with the exercise though.

Not that I claim I can't lose it, just struggle ATM to ahve time for a bath let along anything else.

caughtinanet · 24/08/2011 19:04

I don't normally agree with Fabby but in this case I read her post as explaining why she hasn't lost weight. Maybe I'm being too generous to you, Fabby, but I don't think you are saying that there are no other reasons but a difficulty losing weight are you ?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 24/08/2011 19:04

Good lord Fabby, the stuff you come out with. Hmm

Crosshair · 24/08/2011 19:07

Fabby completes me, well Fabby and carbs. Blush

electra · 24/08/2011 19:08

Of course you are being unreasonable ffs

OpinionatedMum · 24/08/2011 19:13

I would give you a Biscuit but I have eaten them all.

ChippingIn · 24/08/2011 19:17

YABAFW

susiedaisy · 24/08/2011 19:18

YABU, unfortunately I am on two types of medication, the side effect of one is that it increases your appetite and one of the side effects of the other is that it slows your metabolismSadSad it is soooo hard to loose weight I am not happy with my weight and I try hard but am still several stones heavier than I would like, but I need the medication, I never thought I would be in this predicament but there you go life's a bitch!!

rightothatsmethen · 24/08/2011 19:19

cardibach I know that but if your levels are too high then it can lead to weight loss (mainly as you tend to run around like a headless chicken)

These threads always make me hungry.

Size ten mother of four in her twenties here...massive eating disorder style food issues for the last thirteen years. At least half of my female peers have the same.

Interesting that somehow it seems it's more acceptable to have a hidden eating disorder (or not so hidden) and look slim than to be visibly fat.

This makes me a bit sad :(
