DS's dad won't let him join the choir

DS is in the school choir and wants to audition for the church choir. His father however says he can't possibly do so as he will develop a side mouth. AIBU in saying this should be DS's choice as 11 years old?

OP posts:

Your are soooo clever festi - it's just ONE WORD and I can click on it! Genius.

Anyway - he's definitely got the airbrow, but the mouth is more middle than side :)

carpwidow · 23/08/2011 00:30

I CAN'T DO IT!!!! How did you get that link to just one word Festi?

stripeybump · 23/08/2011 00:40

OP if you're serious - choir singing will do nothing but improve your DS's vocal technique, discipline and sense of teamwork.

But thank you for 'air brow' - uncontrollable laughter leads to Braxton Hicks which I didn't know prior to that.

ChaoticAngeloftheUnderworld · 23/08/2011 00:46

carpwidow At the end of the addy you leave a space then type link (for example) before closing the brackets.

carpwidow · 23/08/2011 00:51

Thank you chaotic. I will play some more another day :)

beanlet · 23/08/2011 01:28

This is quite the stupidest thing I've ever heard on here. Firstly, is side mouth even a thing (let alone air brow!)? Secondly, singing of any variety shouldn't cause any facial distortions at all.

And finally - is this a windup? Because this whole thread is bloody bizarre.

Rowena8482 · 23/08/2011 01:32

All I can say is Axl Rose began singing in the church choir and look how he turned out! Grin

festi · 23/08/2011 08:17

it is like this writeyourwordhere when you post you get the word and not the whole link

festi · 23/08/2011 08:18

doh sorry I didnt think that would work with no link you need 2 square brackets then cut and past your link leave a space and then type your word close with double bracketts like these

Almost impossible to communicate politely how wrong his dad is on this! No idea what a "side mouth" is but singers lean to use their mouths beautifully.

Best thing my kids ever did was become choristers. It's only a little over egging things to say " it saved ds life"- at 9 he was a sad academic boy who was being very affected by low level persistent bullying. Joining the cathedral choir he met boys that were more like him and a hobby that gave hom skills and confidence. He "retired" at 13 when his voice broke but at 14 joined a big adult choir and now still sings weekly with regular concerts at a v high standard. He also sings in the school choir ( all boys) and it is still a " cool" thing to do.

The girls both are choristers too. Dd1 just finished her last year as head - shell sing at uni I'm sure. The youngest has great potential too.

Singing is just so good for kids. What ever level they do it at it is a happy making thing with a bit of discipline, and learning musical skills too. Every teen needs a hobby that makes them come out smiling- even if it's only inside !

Thanks festi. I've been working out how to solve OPs problem. Fingers crossed:_

carpwidow · 23/08/2011 09:07

Yay!!!! Who's the daddy? Who's the daddy?

bonkers20 · 23/08/2011 09:21

If your DS is keen on joining a choir and is not allowed to join then he'll probably join when his idiot father can't stop him and he'll go on to develop a side mouth and air brow anyway.

festi · 23/08/2011 09:47

that looks quite wrong carpwidow. well done on mastering the link. Grin

pictish · 23/08/2011 09:50

Sidemouth and airbrow - I have nooooo idea what those things even mean!!

I think this is a wind up personally.

MutantPubicCrabs · 08/09/2011 12:22

This kid suffers from airbrow AND sidemouth.

itisnearlysummer · 08/09/2011 12:25

My DS sings in a choir. He has great fun, has performed in some pretty cool places and doesn't have a side mouth!

Thanks for reminding me about the pinhead thread reality, I'm laughing at it all over again! Grin

ShoutyHamster · 08/09/2011 13:10

Sidemouth and airbrow are the least of your worries... did you know that choirs can lead to arm hang, head tilt, knee frunk and worst of all total meander of the toes. Your DH is being R (rrrrreasonable)

ledkr · 08/09/2011 13:13

Ah please link the pinhead thread,i cant find it.
