Marks and Bastard Spencer have RUINED ds2's birthday

ds2's birthday tomorrow, he's 7

it will be the first birthday dh has ever been away, so I have busted a gut to make it special for him

I ordered something off M&S online which he really, really wants and opted for the extra charge to have it delivered today, in time to be wrapped etc

They said the payment wouldn't go through, there was a problem with the card etc, I put it through over and over again

eventually dh phoned them, from Brazil, and gave all the details over the phone and double-checked with the woman that it had gone through and would still be delivered today, 18th August

so I rang up customer services today to ask if they had an approximate time as I have to take ds1 out to a party later

they said it hadn't gone through and was marked as not paid for

eventually after more schenanigans it turned out that it was because our visa debit card is a co-op bank card - they accept visa debit cards but not visa electron (which ours isn't) - apparently, this woman laughingly told me, the first four digits of the co-op cards are the same as electron cards, so they don't work! nobody asked dh whether it was a co-op card ffs

so the present isn't paid for and won't be arriving after all

I know it sounds trivial but I am SO upset, it has been a tough two weeks without dh here anyway and I really thought I had done a good job of making his birthday lovely Sad

Oh, I assumed you knew Grin. Am a little slow today......

Pepa · 18/08/2011 18:26

For those people who are so calm and relaxed and see this as a big overreaction by the OP, try to remember what it feels like when you have pulled out all the stops to make an event perfect for someone else and it gets ballsed up through no fault of your own.The age of the OP's son or whether its unreasonable to have things delivered next day has nothing to do with it.

If that has truely never happened to you don't worry we'll remind you of this thread when it does and you post on MN for support :)

BimboNo5 · 18/08/2011 18:31

I go postal when the most minor things spoil my planned days/birthdays/outings whatever so I can understand where the OP is coming from. I am morbidly curious about what the deleted post said though- purely in the interest of its context to the debate...

ComeWhineWithMe · 18/08/2011 18:33

The huns are takin over, they're taking over the board and there fucking boring simpery huns with a smuggety smug attitude.

I tell you what we'll have tickers next.

carpetlover · 18/08/2011 18:46

There has been laments on here for about 4yrs that things have changed and it's not the same etc. Up until recently, I wasn't sure I agreed. I just thought it was bigger and more diverse.

However, recently, I've really noticed a change. Too much cosy, constructive posting and far less caustic wit.

OliviaMumsnet · 18/08/2011 18:50

Hello
FYI we have changed this thread title as we had complaints and considered it to be beyond the pale and emailed the OP to let her know we'd changed it.
We've also deleted a couple of attacks.
Most importantly glad to read elsewhere that the birthday is not fucked up the arse

MissPenteuth · 18/08/2011 19:03

That's probably where they came from in the first place Savignon.

MN has been here a long time and swearing has always been acceptable afaik. I can't understand why the anti-swearing types think that they have the right to come along and change it.

fanjolamps · 18/08/2011 19:03

Hahahahaha Olivia, Justine will put you on the naughty step! Oh and welcome back Greeny. Hahahahaha Olivia, Justine will put you on the naughty step! Oh and welcome back Greeny.

fanjolamps · 18/08/2011 19:04

How the fuck did that double post happen? rd>

SuePurblybilt · 18/08/2011 19:06

It's not just swearing though, there's a lot of sniffing about off-topic chatting, in-jokes and MN Royalty again. Yawnsome in the extreme.

DoingTheBestICan · 18/08/2011 19:11

Loving this thread, actually pissing myself laughing here & made coffee spurt out my nostrils.

Custardo can i order a teapot please?

TheMonster · 18/08/2011 19:11

I never get the in-jokes, even if I was there in the first place. My memory has been attacked by years of alcohol abuse.

TheMonster · 18/08/2011 19:11

(sorry, that was a bit off-topic)

pointydog · 18/08/2011 19:20

Only just seen this thread and don;t want to read through the whole lot of it. But am v intrigued what exciting present 7 yr old wanted from british stalwart, M&S. Could someone just give me a short answer?

TheMonster · 18/08/2011 19:22

You should have seen it earlier, pointy, it had a much better title Grin
