Marks and Bastard Spencer have RUINED ds2's birthday

Greensleeves · 18/08/2011 15:24

ds2's birthday tomorrow, he's 7

it will be the first birthday dh has ever been away, so I have busted a gut to make it special for him

I ordered something off M&S online which he really, really wants and opted for the extra charge to have it delivered today, in time to be wrapped etc

They said the payment wouldn't go through, there was a problem with the card etc, I put it through over and over again

eventually dh phoned them, from Brazil, and gave all the details over the phone and double-checked with the woman that it had gone through and would still be delivered today, 18th August

so I rang up customer services today to ask if they had an approximate time as I have to take ds1 out to a party later

they said it hadn't gone through and was marked as not paid for

eventually after more schenanigans it turned out that it was because our visa debit card is a co-op bank card - they accept visa debit cards but not visa electron (which ours isn't) - apparently, this woman laughingly told me, the first four digits of the co-op cards are the same as electron cards, so they don't work! nobody asked dh whether it was a co-op card ffs

so the present isn't paid for and won't be arriving after all

I know it sounds trivial but I am SO upset, it has been a tough two weeks without dh here anyway and I really thought I had done a good job of making his birthday lovely Sad

BASTARDS

Is this what happens when one tries not to swear? One engage in blasphemic musings instead?

This is very interesting.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 18/08/2011 17:29

Does that mean he has seen The Wedding Planner? He truly has suffered.

SaffronCake · 18/08/2011 17:30

Speaking of lost legs, Custardo do you do teapots with legs at all?

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 18/08/2011 17:30

Perhaps 'grown men with beards don't cry unless you inflict pain on them'?

Tortington · 18/08/2011 17:30

jesus would cry having his eyebrow threaded - im sure of it

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 18/08/2011 17:31

I am in love with that teapot. It is so wrong but so very, very right.

Tortington · 18/08/2011 17:31

teapots with legs is a truly ridiculous idea unlike wooden teapots

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 18/08/2011 17:33

One of your teapot links came from a site with 'clay' in the address.

J'accuse!

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 18/08/2011 17:33

Eyse is like a really intense form of eyeing.

AnnieLobeseder · 18/08/2011 17:33

Well, thread seems to have got a bit silly, but I feel your pain, OP. I ordered everything for DD1's 2nd birthday from ToysRUs, but they have a stupid policy where they'll only do a signed-for delivery, but don't tell you until you've had the card through the door about a missed delivery, and then they won't let you change the delivery address. So I had to leave work early the day before her birthday and run around town like a blue-arsed fly replacing all her presents.

That's appalling service, I don't blame you for being angry.

And Angry at the posters telling such horrible stories. People are starving all over the developing world. Does that mean I shouldn't get angry if my Tesco order gets cocked up so I've got nothing to cook for tea? Highly inappropriate responses IMO.

festi · 18/08/2011 17:35

you are back and no one even asked if you got it? well did you?

and at 7 it would be a pretty shit birthday with no present spoiled or not spoiled my dd would hit me a bit disapointed.

MightyQuim · 18/08/2011 17:36

Yes it would be a shit birthday with no present and if the OP was bedbound or no shops were open it would be awful - not the case though is it?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 18/08/2011 17:37

I've ordered a ton of school uniform with my coop card - it's not going to arrive, is it?

Have you had any joy, Op?

Bumbles10 · 18/08/2011 17:37

Gee some of you are a pretty unsympathetic and unempathic lot, i don't know what Greensleeves said in her last message that MugglesandLuna described as vile because it has been moderated away, but i can understand getting very upset and frustrated about this - and yes it isn't really to do with the present, she even as good as says that in her original post, she is having a hard time with DH away. In fact, when we get upset about these things it is almost always against a backdrop of other frustrations, but nothing good can come of belittling the things that are important to people. I mean, there's always someone who can say, "well that's nothing, I've got cancer, my dad died, my house burnt down etc etc", but it doesn't help anyone - you can't compare problems.
I don't usually rant like this, but I'm new to mumsnet, and i didn't realise what a vitriolic place it can be, having seen several responses to people's posts that are just plain nasty i'm not sure i'll be hanging around too much longer.
As for you Greensleeves, i do hope you are able to sort this out, its particularly hard dealing with people on phone lines, and quirky sales systems which inevitably have problems, good luck with it all.

applecrumbleandcream · 18/08/2011 17:38

Mightyquim - you sound like a lovely person, the kind everyone wants as a friend.

Pagwatch · 18/08/2011 17:39

I can't fault your logic Custy.
He must have blubbed a bit.

tethersend · 18/08/2011 17:39

Do grown men with beards cry if they are having their beards waxed?

LtEveDallas · 18/08/2011 17:45

"This thread has everything. Royalty accusations, minor flouncing, nethunners, swears"

and a bit of sockpuppetry methinks

KatieMiddleton · 18/08/2011 17:45

Best. Thread. For. Ages.

Lougle · 18/08/2011 17:46

The real thread title hasn't changed...look at the URL.

Greensleeves · 18/08/2011 17:47

If the sockpuppetry accusation is aimed at me, you are quite wrong

I have never done that and never would - waste of time, and demeaning Confused

carpetlover · 18/08/2011 17:47

Jeez! What the he'll is going on with mn recently when you can't even complain at shit customer service without being told you're lucky your kids still have 20 digits! Hmm

M&S have notoriously bad customer service on the net. It annoying at the best if times but when it's your son's birthday you're allowed to be a bit rangy and pissed off!

Things have become a wee bit too pc on here recently and it's actually quite stifling. It's starting to feel like other forums where people come on to pat each other on the back, give warm hearted advice and talk about their beautiful children.

MightyQuim · 18/08/2011 17:49

Well I'm not sockpuppeting cos no-one agrees with me!

I didn't mention the word royalty but I think it makes sense that if someone has a lot of friends on here they are going to speak up for them when they perhaps wouldn't for an anon poster. There was another thread a while ago when a regular posted wtbu to have a bonfire on a hot day when all their neighbours had their windows open/washing out and surprise surprise the answer was no. Even though a no-name had had a pasting for the exact same thing a day or so before.

Tanith · 18/08/2011 17:51

Evenlessnarkypuffin She said "tell your friend".

What do you suggest she meant??

Tortington · 18/08/2011 17:51

you sound bitter
