to think that letting a 10 year old watch Eastenders is worse than letting them watch Shooting Stars?

Forget about the time of the night. It is the school holidays. Judgey relative likes to point out how my 9 and 10 year old dn's are allowed to do things that may make them "forward" Angry like going to West End shows that are not typical family viewing (Shrek, Wizard etc) walking through Soho (accompanied by three adults!!) to get to the tube and, another one, watching Shooting Stars if they are on holiday!! Hmm Unless it goes completely over my head, I cant remember any swearing in it. Its just daft, isnt it? Her own watch Eastenders that, to me is worse but, I wont judge.....

Shooting Stars imo is a bit too 'sexual' for children but each to their own.

I agree about soaps though, they used to be suitable family viewing at one time...not so much now.

Shooting Stars is mostly pretty surreal, any risque humour would go over children's heads, I think.

EE is pre-watershed but also quite gritty in subject matter, more likely to raise questions from children than Shooting Stars.

YANBU I don't think any of the soaps are suitable for children but then neither is real life most of the time!

I dont think I would take them to Chicago tbh or Blood Brothers (too sad) but, there arent many shows they cant go and see I dont think.

Well yes I agree...hence me saying they're not family viewing nowdays.

My ten year old watched it last week, she loved it.
I don't think Vic Reeves does much other than rubbing his legs, really. The 'hairy bottom' stuff is pretty innocent IMO.

Well I was 12 and my sister 9 when Shooting Stars first started and we loved it and it certainly hasn't made us.. forward. Ehem.

And, arent they lucky? well, I think they are anyway. I would love to live there. They were fascinated my the mankinis in the shop windows. Honestly they wouldnt know if there were any sordid carryings on if it was in their faces. I think its a great part of London to walk through and, that they are very lucky to see it.

how are you supposed to get them to and from the theatre? March them blindfolded through central London?

I remember going to the theatre as a child and non of Soho's seedier side even registered for me, excitement about the theatre much more distracting.

Having rape and murder in your living is much more likely to leave an impression on a child IMO

Pmsl@ walking through Soho being forward!!! Have her children never been to China Town? Or any of the excellent restaurants in Soho??
There's the odd lady outside clubs but nothing dodgy at all. I have a 10 yr old and wouldn't allow EE. If he really wanted to watch a soap on non-children's channel then it would be Neighbours at a push. I don't watch Shooting Stars so can't comment.

I know people that have watched Eastenders with their childre from when they were born because they have watched it all their lifes as well. It wouldnt be my cup of tea. This is the same person who who thinks that children with "intellectual" parents wouldnt be on facebook. I had to pull her up on that one and tell her most of my lecturers children have been on facebook since they were about 12!! she has such funny ideas about things. She thinks it should be all hope scotch and ginger beer. I agree with it to an extent but, there is a real world out there!!

I do think though that it wouldnt be a bad idea if before ee or a program at the same time if they put a message up if it was a special, there was going to violence of something shocking. that wouldnt be a bad idea

every storyline is pretty shocking though, isnt it? I know SS isnt everyones cup of tea but, I think it would appeal to a ten year old

My 10 year old DS love Shooting Stars ( and The Mighty Boosh, Arrested Development, Flight of the Conchords......) I take pride in his highly tuned sense of humor.

Flight of the Conchords can be dodgy, but I have seen them all before him anyway so I know which ones he cant watch.
