to not understand why some women use panty liners on a daily basis?

Understandable possibly at the end of a period but otherwise why?

I dont use them at all but I guess some ladies might get discharge throughout their cycle and feel the need for a liner...?

verylittlecarrot · 12/08/2011 11:56

Because after my third degree tear I can never be sure when I might leak a bit of wee during a cough or sneeze.

MardyBra · 12/08/2011 11:58

Ok verylittlecarrot sounds like a good reason. Otherwise I just don't get the need.

Maybe if you have very irregular periods, or spotting in between (some contraception can cause this I believe) you might feel happier wearing one just in case!

TheSkiingGardener · 12/08/2011 11:59

Because 95% of the time I'm fine, but then I'll be bending over, or eating for something and cough.

Also, change liners and feel lovely and fresh again!

Ephiny · 12/08/2011 11:59

Don't see why you care whether other women wear them though OP, or why they have to have 'good reasons'? Doesn't affect you surely?

TheSkiingGardener · 12/08/2011 11:59

Sorry, reaching for something

StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 12:00

lots of discharge
sorry

I don't use them all the time, but do feel the need to use them now and again

picnicbasketcase · 12/08/2011 12:01

Judging by a recent thread, one reason could be to stop the bleaching effect?

LordOfTheFlies · 12/08/2011 12:02

Don't you have to clench and sneeze?
Or have you got muscles like a bulldog clip?

Don't use every day( or even most days for that matter) but if I've got a cold or hayfever I can't quite trust the old downstairs.

Disclaimer-have stepped up the Kegals, stopped blaming my DS and his large shoulders ( though wouldn't blame him to his face) and near 3rd degree tear.Missed that 'by a membrane' according to gynae,

Not got into Tena lady yet.

So yes - YABU. Alot of womem would have continence issues rather than menstrual.Maybe they don't want to discuss IRL and just quietly deal with in any way they can.And if that means daily liners, so be it.

MardyBra · 12/08/2011 12:03

Ephiny. You're right it doesn't affect me. I was just reading the knicker changing thread and someone said they wore liners every day to stay fresh and it struck me as weird. But I'm happy to stand corrected. Should have put it in chat really.

Is this the fastest back down in AIBU ever?

Lots of x posts. Ok IABU. Got the picture.

OP posts:
VelvetSnow · 12/08/2011 12:04

discharge
spotting
coughing or sneezing and a little bit of wee coming out

What is there to "get"? It's not like women go round advertising "I'm wearing a panty liner" Not sure how this concerns anyone but the person choosing to wear one.

VelvetSnow · 12/08/2011 12:04

ah, x post.

HairyGrotter · 12/08/2011 12:05

Depends on your level of discharge I guess. I wear them most days because I don't take birth control and my period cycle ranges from 28 to 38 days so I hate being 'caught out' and also mid cycle I get heavier discharge. Habit also I figure.

I like wearing them as they make me feel fresher.

MardyBra · 12/08/2011 12:08

I suppose I was wondering whether they were one of those unnecessary items marketed gratuitously at women. still accept IABU.

OP posts:
Teaandcakeplease · 12/08/2011 12:10

I'm ahhh rather moist. So definitely helps with the old freshness here, and yes I can get caught out with the odd sneeze too Blush

I think I've told this story before on mn, but when I was about 19 and had my first office job, I was wearing a lovely floaty plain light grey skirt and hadn't discovered panty liners yet. I think I'd just ovulated and was extra moist and I end up with a damp fanjo shaped patch on my rear. Horridly embarrassing in an office of men

Teaandcakeplease · 12/08/2011 12:11

*ended

LordOfTheFlies · 12/08/2011 12:15

I don't get those 'scented' ones though.

IMHO aren't they more likely to cause irritation?
And do I want my gusset to smell like mountain flowers.
Maybe some people wear them rather than bothering to wash Sad Bleurgh

VelvetSnow · 12/08/2011 12:15

Teaandcakeplease I have a similar story, but this happened to a woman I was watching on the dancefloor at a party.

She was wearing a burgundy skirt and while dancing, she slipped and fell on her arse, I guess the over exertion and shock of falling enabled a little bit of pee to come out - and when she stood up she had that same damp patch on her rear.....

I made a mental note that day to stock my handbag with pantyliners Grin

VelvetSnow · 12/08/2011 12:15

You just never know when you're going to piss yourself Grin

porcamiseria · 12/08/2011 12:17

exactly! leakage..NICE

never used to understand why they existed..now I do :-(

HellonHeels · 12/08/2011 12:20

Because having damp knickers is quite uncomfortable. Don't use them every day, just when I feel the need.

Loathe the scented ones, the "perfume" is vile and I am sure can cause sensitivity.

girlywhirly · 12/08/2011 13:38

I used them frequently during the perimenopause, when my periods were irregular and unpredictable. Hated the thought of coming on and not knowing that I had, and it soaking through my clothes. I always wore a panty liner while travelling, and one saved me from that on a plane returning from holiday!

I agree, perfumed liners are awful, and I don't like the ones with plasticky top sheets either, really uncomfortable. I use the Natracare ones now, which are much nicer.

RollingInTheAisles · 12/08/2011 13:41

Same as stealth, quite uncomfortable otherwise! Also during pregnancy when I thought I had wet myself frequently at the beginning but it was apparently just sweat - erghh!
