I've just been threatened

Mitmoo · 03/08/2011 01:37

I've had the garden turned into a camp site and three children sleeping in tents aged 14. They were fast asleep by midnight. I've just had an elderly neighbour knock the door, I've left the outside security light on so they have light, it is mainly on my back garden but lights up around a little bit not
much. The children felt safer

He has told me to turn off the security light as it is keeping him up. I said don't be ridiculous it is 1 o clock in the morning and close your curtains.

He says it is a hot night and he shouldn't have to close his windows. I say leave your windows open use your curtains to block the light.

He says, if you don't turn off the lights I'll be back at 3 am and you wont like what I'll do, there are consequences and you wont like them"

I feel like that is a threat, one of the children heard it and was scared, I've woken all three children, got them inside and left the light on.

AIBU for thinking this w shouldn't be allowed to make veiled threats, scare one child and force me to get the other two in from their sleeps in the garden just to make sure this tosspot doesn't follow through with his threats which he says will happen at 3 am?

The kids and me were asleep, it was just the security light, it's not like they were causing any trouble.

What do you think? Excuse typos sleepy typing.

Grin Grin Grin

This has become hilarious! (glitterkitten, I agree with you completely, but you must admit it's become seriously silly. Love Whatmeworry's post)

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 04/08/2011 12:42

glitterkitten

seriously. get a life.

Wow what a muture comment! I'm astounded that you think I shouldn't waste my time standing up to bullies! It's those that stand by and do nothing that need to reasses their lives. And even more so the ones who join in the bullying, such as you.

Bully

So you were serious?! Grin I think I might have just pooed my pants laughing. You called ME a bully! That's so funny!!!!!!!

glitterkitten · 04/08/2011 12:44

it has become seriously silly.

but hold on jux are you laughing at ME? you bully.

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 04/08/2011 12:45

Oh look! Shock the bullies are back to stick up for themselves!

glitterkitten · 04/08/2011 12:46

eyebrows.

my dear

you missed the point.

i was highlighting that you implied my posting here meant i couldn't be very interesting in real life and the fact that you actually post more than I.

never mind, there there. you'll get it one day

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 04/08/2011 12:46

Oh now look! They are ganging up! Making 'in' jokes to each other, how lovely, how typical.

glitterkitten · 04/08/2011 12:51

"you are clearly socially inept and a bully and so have no friends in real life."

really?

apply that comment to your comments defining bullying. eyebrows. i have no further energy to waste on you.

thanks banana needed that. i'm not rising to it anymore.

yoshiLunk · 04/08/2011 13:08

This reminds me of that sketch they used to do on ..damn it I forget the show but it went...

"you see that bit of dog poo on the kirb there..?"

"yes"

"that's you , that is"

"yeah, well you see that..... "

etc..

yoshiLunk · 04/08/2011 13:10

Just an observation by the way, not bullying anyone.

LineRunner · 04/08/2011 13:11

The history professors. Newman and Baddiel. Sublime.

TiggyD · 04/08/2011 13:40

I think sarcastically taking the piss out of people counts as bullying too.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 04/08/2011 13:47

Surely not Tiggy... if 'sarcastically taking the piss out of people' isn't recognised as 'fair comment' what hope does a lone weakling have against a group of bullies?

TiggyD · 04/08/2011 13:59

"I think you are completely wrong here", or " I have to disagree with you" is better than "Oh boo hoo, you disagree. How will I ever live with myself now!"

addressbook · 04/08/2011 14:11

It is the playground bananasplitz, unfortunately it never leaves us. Bullies will always exist, those that join the banter brigade usually wish to ingratiate themselves to the bullies because they feel insecure in some way.

Ah the banter brigade < all witty, smirking remarks in demonstrated format>, I have seen it happen here so many times.

It got so low one day that one poster began changing my name from Lysithia to Lyshitia. I wasn't bothered, it just amazed me that these petty bullying tactics still go on in the adult world.

addressbook · 04/08/2011 14:14

It is also amazing how often those that dare stand up to the bullies get accused of being bullies themselves.

It is a certain dynamic, not always easy to explain. But when you have seen it many times (or as in my case been the victim of it at home through childhood) you can smell it a mile off

When finally goaded into repsonding to my step father's jibes and 'witty put downs' he would blow up in fury and accuse me of being the bully.

Projection. Yes indeed Hmm

Abby - 'The OP was/is crying out to have the piss taken'

Really? I mean is anyone crying out to have the piss taken out of them? What a foul attitude.

'We can do what we like'

Again really?

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 14:49

(no joke intended)

I remember you addressbook!

AbbyAbsinthe · 04/08/2011 14:52

addressbook - IN MY OPINION, yes, this thread deserves a bit of piss taking. Just as the OP has the right to post about a situation, so does anyone else to respond as they like. Is this not the nature of forums? If you don't want to hear answers you don't like - don't post the question! It's not rocket science.

I think she was unreasonable. I said so. I thought her comment was funny. I said so. That ok?

addressbook · 04/08/2011 15:03

Yes I have been known to get involved with such threads ShirleyKnot - can't help myself!

erynsmum · 04/08/2011 15:03

Let's face it though, it was ONE night! Not like she leaves the light on every night hey!
Out of interest, did he come back and do anything?

Hope the lads weren't too disappointed in having their camping disrupted by a grumpy old busy body!

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 04/08/2011 15:05

I have MN to move this thread out of 'AIBU' and into '8,000 Pages Of The Sort Of Bilge That Makes You Want To Tear Your Eyes Out Of Their Sockets And Ram Them Down The Nearest Poster's Throat'
