Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, Elmo, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

I've just typed a giant post and definitely clicked "Post" and it took me off into cyberspace and ate my post. Argh. And now I have to run. Anyway Elmo I read your thread, wish I knew what to suggest! Shock

Will be back later to polish the bench before you all get up!

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 02:21

I hate that Gomummy !

Not much to say. Had to pick my brother up at the jail this evening Hmm Always a good time.

But on the other hand I had a lovely day picnicking and shopping and playing at the park with DH and DS.

And now I am going to bed. At 8:20 pm. Blush

gomummygo · 05/09/2011 14:51

Sorry to hear that, Cheerful. :( Hope everything is ok. Your day sounds otherwise lovely though! Am wondering if you get the chance to go for your bike rides by yourself? Sounds like something I'd really enjoy actually. Ooh and you shall not top your family's Christmas-card look from last year, it was perfect! :)

So how was everyone's weekend? We're into apple season here now, picking with DH and baking up a storm with DS.

Need inspiration for family room makeover, any suggestions? Only thing I want to keep is my large area rug, which is mostly black, with sort of a coffee colour and paprika colour in it? Big room but not that bright...any ideas?

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 15:03

No, it's fine. He's just....well, I'm used to him, put it that way! :)

Yes, I've been getting the chance to ride by myself if I do in the evening or very early in the morning. I'd like to go every morning so I can so that I can walk our dog in the evening, but that would require me waking up at a decent hour! But pretty soon it will be too cold/snowy to bike so I'll have to take advantage of it while I can.

It's starting to feel like fall here...really shivery this a.m. It's 50F which I think is 10C? But nice and sunny. I hope it stays a bit chilly; I bought lots of cardigans and sweaters for when school/work starts. :) Can't believe I have to go back tomorrow....Ugh!

It's Labor Day today so DH is home. :) Hopefully we'll get some things done around here. DS has a new play set for the backyard that's not operational yet.

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 15:03

Can you upload a pic of the rug, Gomummy ?

gomummygo · 05/09/2011 23:22

Labour Day here too Cheerful, productive day around the house. DS informed me that daddy is at home because it is a "sattutony holiday." Hmm Good idea, I shall upload a pic of the rug tomorrow when it is daylight; doesn't look the same when it's dark with the lights on, iykwim.

We are also in search of a backyard playset, they are all going on sale here now, I am wondering which things will be used and which would be ignored - can I ask what yours has?

Early morning bike rides sound lovely, mornings are so crisp right now too. Loving the sweater/cardi season! :)

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 23:25

I'll put up a pic of the playset when I can. :) I got it used. It has swings, a climbing thing, monkey bars (well, they're sort of hangy things) and it did have slide but that cracked so we'll have to replace it.

valiumredhead · 07/09/2011 08:33

Morning benchers! :)

Sorry about your brother yanky - must be hard x

I'm not really here - really I am tidying up and doing the washing..........it's all an illusion Wink

CheerfulYank · 07/09/2011 12:50

Wow! I could swear that looked exactly like Valium ! :)

Where is everyone?! Come back, come back! Talk to me so I can put off getting ready for work!

gomummygo · 07/09/2011 19:10

I am here! :) Still having intermittent internet and phone issues !!

Have a great first day back to work Cheerful!

CheerfulYank · 07/09/2011 19:19

It was yesterday. :) It went okay. My student is in no way prepared for 3rd grade, but we'll just have to do our best.

It's always hard in a new year, getting used to the new teacher and how she/he does things.

It's lovely here! Sunny and I think about 21 your temp?

DS had his first day back at preschool today. He said he had a lot of fun and made new friends, but he doesn't know their names. :)

gomummygo · 09/09/2011 02:53

Ack, sorry I am a day behind Cheerful! 3rd grade must be a difficult year in your job, it is such a transitional stage.

21 and sunny here too today (or rather, it was earlier!). Lovely day out with DS. Thought it was going to be problematic at one point. A little boy kept pushing him, DS was so upset, and the mother was issuing flaky "play nice" comments from across the room....finally DS came to me and said "He keeps pushing me and the mommy is not stopping it!" and I said "why don't you try telling him that you don't like being pushed and see what happens?" And miraculously, the next time the boy pushed him, he said "No! I don't like being pushed!"...the little boy looked at him for a moment and then cheerily said "OK! Lets play tractors!" Shock Grin I couldn't believe it. DS was so happy about it! Made my day.

gomummygo · 10/09/2011 18:38

Have I killed the thread?

elmofan · 10/09/2011 18:53
Smile

Hello lovely ladies .

How is everyone ?

I've been very busy re-decorating this week and I'm having a lazy day today as me & DD are sickly.

CheerfulYank · 10/09/2011 19:22

Aw, feel better soon Elmo.

Mmmmm cheese!

Sigh. Lying here and looking around I have decided I don't like the color we chose for the dining room anymore. DH will have a fit if I paint it though...I'll have to wait a bit.

I watched a documentary last night on the insane preschool application process in NYC. Shock It is absolutely crazy. And then I got all caught up thinking on if we are doing the right thing staying here and sending DS to our local school...luckily Tea was on fb chat to talk me down. :o

What are you all doing this weekend? I'm going to sleepover at my friend's so DH can work on the floor.

elmofan · 10/09/2011 19:44

Thanks cheerful x

Are you settling back into work ok ?

tea How is DD getting on at school ? She looks very cute in her uniform Smile

We have been issued a warning to batten down the hatches here over the next few days - hurricane Katia is on its way

Wine ?

gomummygo · 10/09/2011 20:53

Hope you're both feeling better soon Elmo. Had not heard about hurricaine Katia, hope it dissipates before it gets close to you. Do you get a lot of extreme weather where you are?

It drives DH mad when I do that Cheerful, especially when I repaint it close to the previous shade. I've told him he can't complain as he doesn't do the painting, lol!

Planting for spring this weekend here. Bulbs and such. Beautiful weather right now, my favourite time of year!

Grin
Teaandcakeplease · 10/09/2011 21:59

Oh crumbs GoMummy my son sounds just like the other boy who pushed your DS Blush I probably handle it all wrong, I start with "be nice" several times so he doesn't go into meltdown and then say if he continues "we'll have to go home if you keep pushing". Eventually I take him home

Early days still Elmo. She's done only half days this week and is still slowly making friends. But she loved her playdate on Friday and didn't want to come home after, so that's a good sign Smile She goes full time next week, she's going to be one tired chicky at only just age 4.

The BBC website said we may have possible gusts of wind up to 70mph here, if I remember correctly Confused I read about it this morning [memory like a goldfish emoticon]

Cheerful glad to be of service but of course if you went to bed at a reasonable time Wink Maybe you wouldn't have watched such a crazy documentary What's this about picking up your brother from jail? Shock

Teaandcakeplease · 10/09/2011 22:11

Urgh I think it was the other day on the BBC you know not today. Up to date info on the met office seems to indicate it'll miss me entirely and hit Northern Ireland the worst and central/ northern England and parts of Scotland Batten down the hatches Elmo Grin

OP posts:
elmofan · 10/09/2011 23:11

Grin will do tea. Wind is already picking up here.
Dh is in work tonight (driving) and says the sea looks very rough
It's times like this when i'm not sure i like living this close to the seaside.
Aww it will take dd a few weeks to get used to the long hours in school but it sounds
like she's off to a good start with playdates already Smile

Thanks gomummy.
No we don't usually get this type of weather tbh but we do get a lot
of rain here.

gomummygo · 10/09/2011 23:12

Oh no Tea, I'm sure you handle it much better than I would on the other end of the stick! This boy's mum just couldn't really be bothered to look up from her phone, which is what was getting to me I guess. Stars just happened to align for me the other day with a rare stroke of luck.

They go f/t here at 4 too now, it seems like such a long day so young. Does she like it Tea?

CheerfulYank · 12/09/2011 00:12

Hi all!

I am sort of settling back into work. It's nice to have the routine, certainly!

Ugh...cleaning today. Not much else to report! :)

CheerfulYank · 12/09/2011 00:12

Oh and hope you're all right, Elmo! Stay safe!

Any word on the nasty neighbors yet?

CheerfulYank · 12/09/2011 18:50

Having a rough time with DS lately. :(

I started a thread in Behavior and Development. If you want to stop by with any advice I would really appreciate it.

gomummygo · 12/09/2011 20:17

Ack, read your thread Cheerful, I was hoping that would pass by four!
