to wonder about my present

Okay, it's my birthday soon and I was having to hang around in town for an hour or so, and my kids (14 and 11) wanted to be dropped at an industrial estate for the hour. They had been given some money (about £80) after visiting relatives recently and I thought they were just going to spend it on themselves. Well, cos we didn't have the money with us, they borrowed a card of mine which is what they generally do. Anyway, it turns out they spent £145 on me. I saw it on my online banking. I know they will give the money to me but I am so overwhelmed that they would do this and don't know whether to say to them that it was too much, as they dont get a lot of money, or to just not accept all the money when they pay me back. I love them so much, little sweethearts.

Bonkers Our local Tesco sells them. On a little cardboard stand by the Italian ready meals strangely enough!

It's a small Tesco in a North Dorset town famous for a very steep bread related hill.

LadyFlumpalot · 14/08/2011 19:54

X-post! Grin

bonkers20 · 14/08/2011 20:18

I stand corrected then. Got both my hands back now!

jennyvstheworld · 14/08/2011 20:22

Am I the only person to be amazed that Currys (or where ever) allows a 14 child to buy stuff on a credit card?

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 15/08/2011 08:17

No. It's worrying if shops allow children to buy stuff on their parents' credit cards, isn't it?

QOD · 15/08/2011 08:36

I couldnt accept a gift of that value from my dd, its money given to them - will your dh see them right?

iscream · 15/08/2011 08:49

My husband was so proud to be able buy his mum a Royal Doulton figurine when he was 16. It took all of his savings...but that is what he was saving for. The joy of giving should not be underrated.

Enjoy your birthday bonnieslilsister

PercyFilth · 15/08/2011 11:42

Is it today? Have you opened it yet?

2BoysTooLoud · 15/08/2011 12:00

I wouldn't be happy about children that age spending that much money on me - fiver each sounds about right unless as a family you are loaded.
Wouldn't spend that on my DH nor he on me [skint though!].
However - different families have different expectations.....
Wouldn't lend cards either - to anyone let alone children.
HOWEVER - hope you had a happy birthday.

MissyBrookes · 15/08/2011 12:15

I hope you have a fab birthday, but no doubt you will with such wonderful children around. I think its just so sweet of them to be so completely selfless and be thinking of you on your birthday.

Clearly you will repay them, weather its buying them spur of the moment gifts or treating them in other ways after they went to this effort. I don't know why some posters don't assume you wouldn't, you seem to be equally as selfless as your girls :)

InfestationofLannisters · 15/08/2011 14:52

Was it a credit or debit card? Big difference I would have thought.

Hope you have a nice birthday OP and please update Smile

bonkers20 · 15/08/2011 22:24

OOoh, I'm excited for you. Are you opening your presents in the morning or the evening?

bonnieslilsister · 15/08/2011 22:33

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 16/08/2011 09:56

She's either playing with it, or sitting crying because it's a vacuum cleaner. Grin

ImperialBlether · 16/08/2011 09:59

I wonder whether it's one of those photograph cubes, an electronic one. Would it cost that much?

Who's had a Kindle? Does it come in a square box?

moonstorm · 16/08/2011 10:26

Happy birthday! < nosy curious>

bonnieslilsister · 16/08/2011 11:07

Well.....it started off with them giving me a vegetable strainer.....and then a beautiful photo frame and I was thinking "Oh no Ive got to go on MN and tell everyone...." (plus RL friends too

and then they gave me a KINDLE!!!! Grin

I did give them a little 10 secs talk on how the strainer and frame would have been plenty and they said that was what they had bought me first and then when thye saw the Kindle in the shop they realised they had enough money and bought it!!

Thanks for all the good wishes and I have ordered about 6 books already!!

Now all I need is loads of time to read but unfortunately that is not as easy!
