to wonder about my present

Okay, it's my birthday soon and I was having to hang around in town for an hour or so, and my kids (14 and 11) wanted to be dropped at an industrial estate for the hour. They had been given some money (about £80) after visiting relatives recently and I thought they were just going to spend it on themselves. Well, cos we didn't have the money with us, they borrowed a card of mine which is what they generally do. Anyway, it turns out they spent £145 on me. I saw it on my online banking. I know they will give the money to me but I am so overwhelmed that they would do this and don't know whether to say to them that it was too much, as they dont get a lot of money, or to just not accept all the money when they pay me back. I love them so much, little sweethearts.

It would be killing me by now!

Although I wouldn't let my ten year old within a mile of my card - he'd treat himself to an X-Box

bonnieslilsister · 12/08/2011 15:48

Box is too small for an X Box Gonzo!! I only hope I am not going to be disappointed!! Imagine if they had got something for themselves....

I am doing so well in not peeping!!

You have far more resolve than I do. I would have sneaked a peak by now! Mind you I was also a child that hunted for xmas pressies! Downside to that is having to look surprised, or not looking disappointed when you know you haven't got what you wanted Grin

bonkers20 · 14/08/2011 16:30

Very wierd thread
Don't you feel bad they've spent all their cash from family on you?

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 14/08/2011 17:50

The suspense is killing me!

nosexpleaseimpregnant · 14/08/2011 17:51

Very weird that 2 young children know her pin number. Nobody knows my pin number and I would never lend it anyone, no matter who they are. Very strange.

Birdsgottafly · 14/08/2011 17:57

OP, i hope that it is something that you really want or at least like.

I mentioned, in passing to my DP that i would like a juicer, but i also took him to the Guess shop, to 'look' at the handbags. He walked in on my birthday with a massive box, ok, i thought, he's done this for a wind up. Sadly, no, the box contained a £150 top of the range juicer, that i don't use because it is to difficult to clean. Good luck.

mumatron · 14/08/2011 17:57

I assume she gave them the pin, they asked for permission to use it.

I think it is lovely your dc want to this for you.

nickschick · 14/08/2011 18:06

Why is it weird?
My dc often spend as much money as they have on me Smile ....its not weird its kind.
All my dc know my pin number and it has proven to be a great thing - I was out Dh hurt his foot vv badly and needed to get to hospital by taxi ....ds3 aged 10 was able to walk to the local supermarket, ask at customer services for my friend who works there, when she came he asked her to accompany him to the instore cash machine where he withdrew £50 and then ran home.

bonnieslilsister · 14/08/2011 18:16

Why is it so "weird and strange" nosexpleaseimpregnant? Just because no one knows your pin does that mean no one should know anyone elses? Who are you to judge? I know loads of people who send their kids to the co op with their card. Does that mean I live in a strange and weird neighbourhood? They are not "two young children" but two really kind and sensible young people aged 14.5 and 11 nearly 12.

Kindles aren't 145 unless it is the 3g version.

I'd not have let my children spend all their savings on me. But it is still a really nice thing for them to do.

natandjacob · 14/08/2011 18:24

My DS is way to young to know my pin (1 year old) but when he's old enough i wouldnt have a problem telling him. also my sister always gives me her card to go to the shop for her, its ok to give it to people you'd trust with your life.

OP, hope you get the kindle you want!

bonnieslilsister · 14/08/2011 18:25

They had already done it fabbychick. The only thing I could do when I open it is to say I am going to return it as it is too much, which I am not prepared to do as they will be shattered.

Birdsgottafly · 14/08/2011 18:25

Clicked 'post' to soon, my middle DD has the PIN to my 'small' account and my eldest DD and her DP, use my bigger account, when they need to lend money, not strange at all.

bonkers20 · 14/08/2011 19:24

i still need to be convinced that you can actually buy a kindle from shops.

sorry, typing one handed

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 14/08/2011 19:37

Other electronic reading devices are available. Smile

bonnieslilsister · 14/08/2011 19:38

Bonkers, my DH just bought me a Kindle from Tesco.

shakey1500 · 14/08/2011 19:40

Ooh I hope it's a lovely surprise for you :)

As an aside though, I work in retail and would question a 14year old using a debit card. I'd have to speak to the cardholder to verify ID and permission to use card/pin and also to verify x amount was being spent.

Salmotrutta · 14/08/2011 19:41

Tesco were selling Kindles not so long ago bonkers. I saw them with my own eyes!! Grin
