to wonder about my present

Okay, it's my birthday soon and I was having to hang around in town for an hour or so, and my kids (14 and 11) wanted to be dropped at an industrial estate for the hour. They had been given some money (about £80) after visiting relatives recently and I thought they were just going to spend it on themselves. Well, cos we didn't have the money with us, they borrowed a card of mine which is what they generally do. Anyway, it turns out they spent £145 on me. I saw it on my online banking. I know they will give the money to me but I am so overwhelmed that they would do this and don't know whether to say to them that it was too much, as they dont get a lot of money, or to just not accept all the money when they pay me back. I love them so much, little sweethearts.

How do you know that whatever-it-is they bought is for you? And how do you know they only bought one item? Several items from the same shop would normally show as one transaction, in my experience.

TeamDamon · 04/08/2011 13:30

Ooh - two good questions.

rhondajean · 04/08/2011 13:43

Oh no I need to know what this is! And Im hoping its not an expensive hand blender hehe.

This has just added to my curiousity - its my Bday on Saturday and noone has mentioned it so far although DH is very good at presents and him and the two DDs have vanished into town today with mysterious "things to do" - Im being eaten up with curiousity and now I need to wait another week to know what these lovely kids have bought!!

DeWe · 04/08/2011 13:45

It's a small box of Quality Treats for mum and a Kindle for them. Grin

bonnieslilsister · 04/08/2011 14:28

Ha Ha this is so funny

When I checked my online bank stsatement immediately it didn't tell me which shop only the ammount taken out of my account but now I know it was Currys thank god it was not homebase

I know it was only one item as they sneaked in the bag and hid it under my ds bed and I peeped but I didn't look inside the plain white box I would never do that ....unless of course what they bought for themselves is also hidden in a better hiding place!! I dont think so though.

Hope your present is good rhonda and you have a good birthday....I am soooo excited!!

You'd better remember to come back and tell us all about your new blender Kindle on your birthday!

HPonEverything · 04/08/2011 16:16

You could solve this early by buying up everything in Curry's and seeing which things are packaged in a similar style box?

eurochick · 04/08/2011 16:16

It's not illegal to let someone else use your card but it is probably a breach of the bank's ts and cs. That's a contractual matter between the cardholder and the bank and is only ever going to come back and bite you on the bum if something goes wrong. [That's to whoever claimed on the previous page that it was illegal.)

lashingsofbingeinghere · 04/08/2011 16:34

OP, thank God it's not from B&Q. I was thinking a trio of garden gnomes and a windmill Grin

nbee84 · 04/08/2011 16:44

Adding this thread to my watch list - need to know what you've been bought.

What lovely children you have - how old are they? (not sure if I missed that bit)

nbee84 · 04/08/2011 16:44

Durr! Just reread the opening post - 14 & 11 Blush Grin

What Exit said - roll on your birthday, your children are about to set the benchmark by which all of ours will be judged! Grin

TiaMariaandDietCoke · 05/08/2011 17:31

Camera? photo printer? Wii? what lovely children!!!

NattersAndMutters · 05/08/2011 17:42

bonnieslilsister · 05/08/2011 21:03

To tell you the truth I don't care what it is, I love them so much for doing this!! so long as they didn't get cashback
BTW I got the money from them. They were very sheepish about the ammount and handed it to me almost running from the room!
