to feel miserly for asking for rap water in restaurants?

I actually like water.

Shock

And, yes, there is a pecuniary reason too - when we all go out drinks can easily add an extra £large to the bill, I'd rather have something I enjoy for free and let the Chaotic4 have paid for drinks.

Smile

But I feel judged by waiting staff for ordering tap water.

Is my sense of entitlement too inflated to think I should be able to order a legimate drink without being given TheSneer?

Does rap water turn you into Eminem by any chance? Grin

Whatmeworry · 28/07/2011 22:01

Rap water - in a big jah!

O yes mon :)

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/07/2011 22:02

YADNBU. I always ask for tap water in restaurants, as they tend to charge upward of £4 for a litre. And this when I'm spending at least £30 on wine.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 28/07/2011 22:03

What's rap water? Cristal? Grin

Enjoy it and ask for ice and lemon next time!

MinnieBar · 28/07/2011 22:04

or similar

BartletForAmerica · 28/07/2011 22:04

Giles Coren was on about this for a while as well, partly because of the environmental effects of bottling water when we have perfectly good tap water here, so I feel quite justified asking for tap water.

Panzee · 28/07/2011 22:04

To the W to the A to the T E R... :o

Graciescotland · 28/07/2011 22:05

I ask and if they sneer, I explain the shocking number of carbon miles that go with bottled water and that I don't drink it on principle.

Principle being that I'm mean Grin

There's no getting away from the fact that this is, essentially, tightwad behaviour.

I always ask for tap water now. Most restaurants just offer it automatically. I think they realise they are on a hiding to nothing, now everyone knows bottled water is a) a rip off b) very ungreen. Of course, they just make up the difference by charging more for other soft drinks/teas/coffees/cover charge etc.

tethersend · 28/07/2011 22:11

Does it come with ice ice baby?

Selks · 28/07/2011 22:11

I ask for tap water too. I don't (usually) drink alcohol and don't want a soft drink such as coke with a meal, and I don't want to pay for fizzy water, so tap water it is. But I am usually quite generous with the tip.

Is it called rap water cos it's on the hizzouse?

YoungishBag · 28/07/2011 22:13

Not tightwad. It's an obscenity that more than 60% of the worlds population don't have clean water.

Asking for tap water shows you know how privileged you are and also that you're not a western cunt who buys bottled water using yet more of the earths resources.

Be careful if it has ice in it cos legally they can charge you for that.

Panzee · 28/07/2011 22:13

GreenEyesandHam · 28/07/2011 22:14
