I actually like water.

Shock

And, yes, there is a pecuniary reason too - when we all go out drinks can easily add an extra £large to the bill, I'd rather have something I enjoy for free and let the Chaotic4 have paid for drinks.

Smile

But I feel judged by waiting staff for ordering tap water.

Is my sense of entitlement too inflated to think I should be able to order a legimate drink without being given TheSneer?

I do like the way Strada automatically give you chilled filtered water as soon as you sit down. I'm more likely to drink wine if I have water as well, and I don't like to pay ridiculous prices for something that basically comes out of the tap. (apart from the obviousl environmental concerns).

I do like sparkling, especially on a hot day as I think it cuts through the dust better than still water. The best experience I ever had was in Croatia on a killingly hot day where for 10p I was offered a jug of icy cold, sparkling water, straight from the Soda Stream Grin.

In most restaurants in the US they will bring you water when you sit down, without you having to ask. I think it's a great idea and saves you having to ask for it. I've never had a waiter sneer when asking for it and there is now a law that means they cannot refuse to provide it (assuming they have a license to servce alcohol).

1.10 is not a lot for a glass bottle, it's not volvic or from Costco whoever said that. It's 80p from the corner shop, whereas my place is a lovely cafe. I need to charge a bit more as there are so many bills with a business. I'm paying 1.90 per bin bag and the council just tool out 900 for rates. No wonder little shops are all closing if people sneer at 1.10!!

Teaparty, now YABU. And moneygrabbing.

You are missing the point here.

I can make coffee for myself at home for pennies, yet I will gladly pay up to £4 for a coffee in a nice cafe.

I do some lovely baking and it costs me pennies, yet I will pay £2-3 for a nice cake in a lovely cafe.

I will not, however, pay for water. There are significant environmental costs to bottling clean water, when we have lovely clean water from the tap.
