To think I should have just kept my mouth shut

feeling slightly, a lot well, stupid. to say the least

Had dd booked into intensive swimming lessons all week, and this morning i was talking to one of the other mums about the cost etc (quite reasonable) and found my self saying I've only booked her in to get her more confident in the water, before she goes back to her swimming club lessons in september and if that wasn't bad enough cringe worthy moment next I open my mouth and i usually pay £x for her to have individual lessons
week, my gawd what have I turned into? I am exactly the type of look what I can afford annoying parent I thought I detested.
I honestly didn't mean to brag mention it at all, it just kinda slipped out of my mouth like verbal diareah.

Somebody slap me, and tell me I'm a twat muppet.

Why can't I keep my mouth shut?

Oh it's nothing to worry about. I wouldn't have taken offence if I were the other mum or thought that you were bragging. I'd have just thought "Bloody sensible idea!"

All credit to you for giving DD the lessons. I was lucky, as I hate water and can barely swim, my DDs Grandad taught them. How you do it doesn't matter, it's just a good and nice thing that you do, likewise the other mum. :)

I wouldnt have taken offence either. Actually I used to do the same sort of thing. Both DC had a class of 4 and we paid ££ for the lessons, now they can swim they have lessons at our local pool and there are 6-10 in the class and is is much much much cheaper.

Also known for saying something and then engaging brain.

ive done same thing for same reason.dont think talking about its boasting,think its common sense to book in for intense at cheaper price ans hopefully skip a few groups.same as you,i just want ds to get his confidence up.

btw intense lessons here are £28 for a week.normal lessons are £58 a term.

(Ps. learning to swim / stay afloat is very important IMO & worth the money so good on you.)

£100?! One hundred pounds sterling??!! For a few swimming lessons???!!! Are they going to be competing in the 2012 Olympics?

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to teach your dc yourself wherearemysocks, or is it that your hair turns green in a chlorine pool?

If so, kitting them out with a couple of old tyres seems a sensible and more financially viable alternative.

No izzywhizzyletsgetbusy, I don't believe they let 7yr olds in the Olympics. But as I think that being able to swim is very important and potentially life saving, and as I'm not a qualified swimming teacher then I choose to let the professionals do it.

I take her swimming frequently and she is very water condident but until she is a strong swimmer she will keep going to lessons too.

agre wherearemysocks.id pay more.we live by the the sea and the moors.im not the most confident so pay for someone else to teach my children to swim.

Grini know he'll get fed up half way through the week.if he doesnt have to do it he'll want to go,but because its all booked and paid for he'll have a strop!

Is it early morning swimming lessons this week? If so, I also spout verbal diarrhoea at ours simply because it's way too early in the morning. I'm sure they won't remember either because they were half asleep too.

Have just re-read that - not suggesting you were spouting verbal diarrhoea - just that I meant to say I talk without thinking when it's v early in the morning.

I don't think you sound nearly as bad as the mums at my dd's swimming lesson who are constantly harping on about how their dc should really be in the next class up and why aren't they being moved up and what score did yours get for having a watering can tipped on his head.

this sounds silly but i think almost everyone pays for swimming lessons we pay hell of aloottttttt of money for our two! but at the end of the day it's life saving! your just being paranoid if you can afford it why not!

blewit they're 9am start, so not super early (except maybe When it's in the holidays). Watering can over the head? Eek, Think my dd would scream the place down if they tried that with her.

that's early in my book. we've had 8.30am ones this week. are you glad it's the weekend? I know I am. we have just passed level 1 - hoorah!!! except she has passed this a year ago and possibly the year before too. maybe i should sew the badges to her swimsuit so that they at least attempt to move her forward. her recent badge at weekly swim class gave her a point for getting into the pool using the ladder! Is there any way they can string this out any more without actually teaching her to swim?

What do you mean get them in the pool using the ladder? Is that what it's for?

I am shocked and disappointed mainly that i didnt listen to MNers that dd was subjected to dududuuuuu the watering can today.
