YANBU. It's a kids' book though, to be fair, so unlikely to be full of super-clever and difficult-to-work-out plot twists.

Wasn't the first film made before the last book was written? Nothing was set in philosophers stone...

for a "childrens" book it is actually pretty deep, you'd be surprised. i've read them all about 200 times each. im a massive HP geek! but yes it was obvious from the begining :o

It wasnt supposed to be a secret that they were going to get together- it was obvious they would- but it was fun watching/reading their relationship slowly develop.

However- There were plenty of unexpected parts/twists to HP saga that were certainly not obvious.

Although there is a rather good Fanfiction alternative ending,that has Hermione recreating Jane Eyre and ending up with Snape.

You'd be amazed how many fans (mainly girls, I think!) were adamant that Harry was going to end up with Hermione, right up until it was spelled out in book 6, or even later.

Thought it was obvious from the second film where Hermione nearly hugs Ron but gets all embarrassed instead. The fourth film was a bit of a red herring, apparently the director was a big Harry/Hermione shipper. Hence the scene with Harry being all awed by Hermione in her ball dress coming down the stairs.

It wasn't meant to be a "who will end up with whom?", it was pretty clear that Ron and Hermione would get together eventually. The fun was reading it develop and see the trials they went through and put each other through as they grew up. By the 7th book JKR spelled it out fairly clearly at the very start when Ron starts to treat Hermione nicer, having been given a book by his brothers full of tips!

activate, have you ever read them? the first couple of books arent amazing but as they go on there are a lot of lessons on love, family ties, good v bad and so on. they're written very cleverly, you honestly should give them a try!

I love the books, I think they are a lot more clever than they are often given credit for, and are very successful in how they convey universal themes in a way accessible to children who will appreciate them more fully as they grow up.

I think there are quite a few interesting thoughts contained in Harry Potter. At heart it's a simple children's book about good and evil exploring concepts of loyalty, friendship and bravery. I've always liked Voldemort's philosophical poser from the first book.... "There is no good and evil. There is only power... and those too weak to seek it." As they say in all good exam questions... discuss. :)

I think Harry Potter is quite deep and covers a lot of important themes :) The first point when I thought it was obvious Ron and Hermione were going to end up together was the Goblet of Fire when he gets angry when she goes to the ball with Krum.

I always hoped she would go off the rails and end up with Draco...

I like the HP books and films a lot - but they are about as deep as a Pizza Hut pizza.

Lots and lots of clues re Ron and Hermione AND Harry and Ginny - they are not subtle in any way, shape or form tbh. The only thing I can remember taking me by absolute surprise was finding out that Madeye wasn't the real Madeye in book 4 - I had to read back to see if I'd missed anything!

It was obvious that they would end up together. WHY she would want him is another matter. Totally unbelievable unless the traumatic bonding was so strong that she couldn't relate to people who hadn't been through everything with her

Harry Potter is like a prototype. There are very few characters in basic children's fantasy (hero, villain, anti-hero, donor, dispatcher, father figure etc) and each character in HP falls v neatly into the expected roles. Of course Ron "I hate you Hermione" Weasley and Hermione "Oh fgs Ron" Granger were going to end up doing the nasty.

And pretty obvious that Snape was a goodie, too, but I'm the only one who says that.

Of course Snape was good. He was the anti-hero. Lacked all qualities of a normal hero, could so easily have been bad, wrongly assumed as bad by the hero. And whaddya know? I think you could even have guessed the name of Harry's PFB with a rudimentary education to SATs level.

I have never, ever read Potterdom. I will one day. Actually no I read a crossover once where Harry and Draco. Well, anyway, best not to go there...

I don't think there were Harry/Hermione hints but I have no idea what she saw in whingy, jealous, insecure, spiteful Ron. He was a crappy friend and probably a crappier husband.

Harry's not perfect but he's a generally decent guy. Hermione deserved way better than Ron!
