Wasn't really into HP until a friend lent us the last three books on CD for our holidays over the past three years, so we had Stephen Fry reading each book to us (DH, me and three DCs) over 24 hours - no speed reading, so we didn't miss anything. An absolutely fantastic way to get to Dorset, Pembrokeshire and Brittany and back. Would recommend you get down to the library and seek the talking books out if you're about to go on holiday. Forget the DVD player, this is a much better option.

oh Mrs K, just read the damn books. My son grew up with Harry - he was 11 when the first book came out (in which Harry turns 11, for those who don't know this), and loved each one as it came out. He particularly liked the 'first kiss' book, said the description of the adolescent male thought process was spot on (to be fair I think he said 'grunt' but I knew what he meant, bless him).

And a refreshing change from the kids books of yesteryear - could you imagine the kids in the Chronicles of Narnia, or Swallows and Amazons ever even holding hands??

It was Obvious from goblet of fire onwards. Although I think the scriptwriter for the films would have preferred hermione with Harry rather than Ron. Book Ron is much better than film Ron.

It all makes much more sense in the books, the films miss out too many subtleties.

I actually don't get how some of the films make sense if you haven't read the books, they leave so much out.
