Okay yes its another one, but a separate point...

On sky news, a woman being interviewed (I didnt catch who she was) said that her family "should have done more" to prevent her death. Is that not absolutely disgusting..? Shock

What a lovely comment for them to hear when they've just lost their daughter Angry. I'm sure they did everything they possibly could. What parent wouldn't?

worraliberty · 23/07/2011 21:43

Perhaps she knows them personally and is privvy to information that we're not?

sleepindogz · 23/07/2011 21:43

as far as my limited knowledge about her goes, they were the only ones who did try to help her help herself, unfortunately she chose not to accept it

they are the ones who will be suffering now

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 23/07/2011 21:44

Yes. It would be interesting to know what she felt could have been done. Lock her up?

Because that's the only thing that one person can do to physically stop another person from exercising their free will.

And it is illegal to hold someone captive.

Or perhaps she feels that the parents should have wagged their fingers and said "now stop it, young lady" and she would have stopped at once.

You cannot stop an adult from making their own decisions and choices in life.

I suppose she feels that something in the upbringing was to blame?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 23/07/2011 21:46

Shock The joys of celebrity- everyone and anyone is entitled to their uninformed and ill-thought-out opinion. I'm sure her parents have more to worry about at this time than this silly comment, but as far as I could see, Amy Winehouse was her own person, and was privvy to lots of help but sadly couldn't use it in time.

CRS · 23/07/2011 21:46

Like someone said on another thread "Judge not lest you might be judged".

Wormshuffler · 23/07/2011 21:47

Her name is Kim Dawson, she is a hack at the daily star. What a vial vial thing to say, as if her family won't be feeling bad enough.

Ingles2 · 23/07/2011 21:48

what a wicked thing to say ... and what exactly are that poor family supposed to have done to curtail her drug addiction exactly?
I feel every sympathy for the family, and sadness at the waste of a life.

TidyDancer · 23/07/2011 21:48

I suspect there were people in Amy's life who didn't have her best interests at heart, but I sincerely doubt they are her family members.

issynoko · 23/07/2011 21:51

I know her family (through a friend) and they were constantly trying to help her. My mum's sister was an alchoholic and the years and years of trying to help were a terrible strain. People need to help themselves in the end. My auntie died in a terrible, sad, lonely way, also found dead in her home. Mum had Alzheimers by then and I just didn't get to her in time - not that time. Still felt I should have done. She was older but it was still awful.

NormanTebbit · 23/07/2011 21:51

Vile

springydaffs · 23/07/2011 21:51

I didn't know she had died!

God, that is just so bloody sad. Her poor family Sad Agree it is a crap thing to say. Probably written by someone whose kids - if they have any - are all tickety boo. at present

Oh I'm just so upset by this. I really hoped she'd make it.

mumnotmachine · 23/07/2011 21:52

From what Ive previously seen when Amy Winehouse was in the media for her antics, her parents tried everything to help her, as a parent would.

Sadly there is so only so much help that can be given.

Amy has been on a downward spiral for many years, to the stage where realistically she was beyond help.

The only person responsible for her demise is herself

A tragic end, another talented young life, wasted to drink and drugs
At least the nightmare is over for her, I feel so sorry for her family

TidyDancer · 23/07/2011 21:54

I wonder if this is all coming out of the fact that Amy's dad enjoyed the limelight? I think there is a general feeling of dislike about the man. It's no excuse for what has been said subsequently though, but I suspect that might be why there is less feeling for him. Awful.

intelligenceitself · 23/07/2011 21:55

My God how disrespectful can you get Shock

TidyDancer · 23/07/2011 21:56

Was that directed at me? If so, I think you've got me wrong!

worraliberty · 23/07/2011 21:56

Why shouldn't Amy's Dad enjoy the limelight? Confused

Amy did, didn't she?

TidyDancer · 23/07/2011 21:57

I'm not saying he shouldn't actually, I was just pointing out that he has been disliked in the press for it. And that perhaps that's why they are being less generous to him/the family now. It's fucking disgraceful.

ivykaty44 · 23/07/2011 21:58

If families could prevent their off spring from becoming drug addicts or stop them once they had - they would wouldn't they...?

worraliberty · 23/07/2011 21:59

Oh I see Tidy sorry Blush

intelligenceitself · 23/07/2011 22:00

No Tidy the Kim arsehole Dawson woman

TidyDancer · 23/07/2011 22:01

Ah right, just wanted to be sure! I agree. :(

lilolilmanchester · 23/07/2011 22:05

well, whatever the ins and outs, only the family knows what has really gone on , and regardless, they have lost a precious & beloved person today, they should be allowed to grieve without people throwing this crap at them

MrsSnow · 23/07/2011 22:07

Drugs are addictive, what family can fight against the power that they have over an individual? I think the family are probably feeling raw enough as it is, they certainly don't need guilt. YANBU

Death through drugs are just sad

2rebecca · 23/07/2011 22:08

I have no idea whose fault if anyones it is that she's dead and I'm surprised the OP has on the minimal info currently publically available. People saying stupid things on the media about celebrity deaths doesn't suprise me though. It's the medias fault for interviewing any moron who is willing to speak to them though. Presume anyone whop really knows the family will be keeping schtum.
