I was just reading a post and it reminded me of when i was first on mumsnet and made a few blunders, the first posting in AIBU when i was a newbee Shock

Although i never admitted it to any one then my next blunder in my confusion of many acronyms one was thinking that TIA was actually someone signing their post with their name any who for any newbees out there who are in their first days of mumsnet this thread will make you see you are not alone, and also some what cleverer then cookielove Grin

Come wise mumnetters share your blunders, your blushes and your mis understandings here Smile

Skiptotheend - i went through a similar experience in AIBU, didn't realise what AIBU really was. It toughened me up though.

What was the post??

Troll yes!!

Sock puppet HUH?

SkipToTheEnd · 21/07/2011 18:22

I'm not telling! :o

And a sock puppet is when you sign in with another nn to back yourself up if you're losing your argument. I didn't do that on my thread though.

I blundered into a discussion on names and stated that I thought the name "Taya" was chavvy. I was pasted by one very well known poster dued to her daughter being named that. We kissed and made upSmile

PortBlacksandIsleOfDogs · 21/07/2011 18:49

OMG!!! I have found the thread Grin - in telly addicts rather than chat so it stayed - my blunder moment is about five posts in.....

PortBlacksandIsleOfDogs · 21/07/2011 18:52

My tumble dryer thread appears to be long gone - thank goodness - it was far far worse Hmm....

The first time I posted was on a parking thread in AIBU. It was the first time I'd ever been on an internet forum and I dived straight in. Of course, I couldn't go out for about 3 days, as I was so busy arguing!

cookielove · 21/07/2011 18:58

PORTBLACK - TOOO FUNNY

The best blunder I have seen this was this.

A VERY serious thread about grandparents gaining access rights to their grandchildren in broken famalies. It was very intense and somber.

Then, quite a way into the discussion one poster rolled up and cheerfully posted;

"Vajazzaled!"

Followed by "Opps, wrong thread Blush"

Cant remember who it was but still makes me laugh to this day so thank you!

cookielove · 21/07/2011 19:00

Oh i think i remember that one coco

alowVera · 21/07/2011 19:04

PortBlacksandIsleOfDogs · 21/07/2011 19:06

I got booted off babycentre a million years ago for mentioning that one of the posters on one thread saying that she was happy with one child was also on the trying for number two threads.....Big Mistake Blush - i had no idea of Forum Etiquette at the time and had serious baby brain....

PortBlacksandIsleOfDogs · 21/07/2011 19:07

Yes i was very childishly saying "but you said over there" like it was RL or something .......

I used to think everyone on MN had a 1yr age gap between their kids...cos I thought 'DC1, DC2, DC3' etc...were their ages Blush

sims2fan · 21/07/2011 20:31

I still get a bit confused by some of the lesser well known acronyms from time to time, but when I first joined I saw 'HTH' at the bottom of a couple of posts and assumed they were someone's initials, until after a few days I realised it wasn't the same poster writing that. (It means hope that helps, in case anyone else doesn't know)

My first AIBU post I also assumed I wasn't being unreasonable and was quite shocked when I was informed by the majority that I was! These days, while I love answering AIBU queries I normally put my own in chat so I don't get such a shock at the answers, and so that the thread eventually disappears. - My thread was about thinking a certain inlaw should invite my husband and I to family things when she invites the other inlaws, or at least if she really doesn't want us there she should not post pics etc of the event afterwards! I still maintain I'm right and all of you lot were wrong, so nur!

ChunkyBrewster · 21/07/2011 20:45

I was so embarrassed by mine I namechanged.. and am going to out myself by revealing this but am sure noone remembers it that much. There was a thread about a colposcopy but I didn't read the title carefully enough and thought it said colonoscopy. I've had to have several so waded in merrily with lots of details about the procedure and tubes up bottom details etc etc.

Everyone seemed to very politely ignore my post; it was like tumbleweed blowing down the lonely highway on that thread. I woke up in the middle of the night twitching in shame for a good few days afterwards.

Finallyspring · 21/07/2011 20:55

When I first joined MN I had never posted anything anywhere before. There was a famously 'eccentric' poster at that time ( where's he gone btw?) and I couldn't work out why everyone was humouring him. So I just said what I thought of him. On AIBU.

The thread took off at the rate of about 10 posts per second, all of them telling me I was evil and outrageous. Most of them told me they were reporting the thread and that I should do the same and get it deleted. I didn't even know how to do it.

The thread was deleted really quickly and I was MORTIFIED. I actually, honestly couldn't sleep for thinking that somehow people would find out who I was in RL. Was too scared to go back on MN for ages and when I did, name changed.

Finallyspring · 21/07/2011 20:57

You remember it don't you ?

Shall I get my coat ?

TrillianAstra · 21/07/2011 21:02
