Riveninside · 21/07/2011 17:05

and none of them poncy low floor buses either. In my day it was steps and folding.

TheCrackFox · 21/07/2011 17:07

Character building walking to the shops with a couple of really tantrummy children. For extra character one of the bags has to split on the walk home - add some rain and wind for more of a challenge.

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 21/07/2011 17:09

we were talking about this the other day, actually, DH and I.
we were saying that it was a shame that there were disabled bays further away from the entrance than P&T bays, and that really, the main reason to have a P&T space was that the parent needs that extra vit of space and preferably space where the toddler can't run off into the path of oncoming cards.

My proposal is that seated trolley bays should be in amongst the P&T bays, and such bays should be at the side of the carpark, or at the back - wherever there is least traffic, then the family can walk down the safe pathways with the children in the trolleys (where applicable).
Thsi is possible in our supermarket, as there are paths all the way round the edge of the car park separated from the car park by planters/hedges etc

Kladdkaka · 21/07/2011 17:10

I had a row once on the bus with a woman with a huge double buggy. She thought I should fold up my walking frame and put it in the baggage space behind the driver so she could fit her pram in the big space bit. Will I eckers like. In the end the driver told her to fold the pram up or get off.

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 21/07/2011 17:10

Riveninside · 21/07/2011 17:11

can I have your leftover fags then custy?

venusandmars · 21/07/2011 17:14

Hmmm... so what happens to all these little uncontrollable children, who can't cross a car park safely, ONCE they get INTO the shop? Oh yes! I've just found out - running and pushing and screaming.

Reminds me why I usually go to the 24hour supermarket at 2am, and park halfway up the car park.

venusandmars · 21/07/2011 17:16

But more seriously, last week I went shopping with my parents. My dad (in his 80's) insisted that we could park in the p+c places since I was their child and they were my parents, and anyway it was closer than the disabled spaces and more room to get my mum's wheelchair out of the car.

ivykaty44 · 21/07/2011 17:18

No parent and child spaces should be outside their own homes - either use shopping on line or they should be forced to walk to the supermarket with a trolley on wheels to take the shopping home in and if they don't do much shopping then the toddler can be placed into the trolley on wheels for the trip home

buttonmoon78 · 21/07/2011 17:18

I agree - put them further away from the entrance then lazy arsed people won't use them. I don't need to be close, I need to be able to get my children out of the car without damaging anyone else's (mine is a reasonably small car BTW) or damaging my knackered back.

And my children do not and have not ever had a tantrum whilst shopping. None of the three, although with dc4 only 5 days old, there's time for him to create a little fuss!

'indeedy, before the busdrivers has bullet proof screens, i used to hand him a baby and the old lady atht he front of bus a baby'

did you then leg it off the bus and to freedom? Grin

DitaVonCheese · 21/07/2011 18:47

YANBU. Our local Tesco has the P&C spaces a little way away from the door and they're always empty. I don't use them obviously, I want to park next to the door ta Grin

What makes me laugh is when you go to somewhere aimed at kids like the zoo and there are no P&C spaces yet somehow everyone mysteriously copes Hmm

I will swear undying loyalty to any supermarket which sticks two high heel spaces bang next to their doors, for use only by bright young somethings who are dashing in on the way to somewhere glamorous but need to pick up a couple of bottles of wine and a packet of condoms whilst wearing really unfeasible shoes. (NB this isn't me (any more) :()

NoobyNoob · 21/07/2011 18:56

Christ, you sound like you need a fag TBH to get rid of that massive chip on your shoulder.

Whilst I agree on your sentiment about PC places, the way you've worded your OP is rude and sweeping - so for that - have a Biscuit

Mitmoo · 21/07/2011 18:59

Yep parents should never

Take the kids shopping, they annoy other shoppers

Take the kids to restaurants, the annoy other diners

Take them to the park, they annoy the dogs.

Take them to school, they annoy the teachers.

Lock them up, keep them in.

Darned pesky kids being allowed out and kept safe from cr&p drivers in car parks. We'll be expected to feed them and pull them out of their chimneys next.

Mitmoo · 21/07/2011 19:01

Ditavon if they had child parking spots in child friendly places that would cover the whole carpark. I think that's the flaw in your argument there.

Mitmoo · 21/07/2011 19:04

venus you stick them in a trolley - job done.

I can't understand why people can't empathise with parents who are shopping with toddlers, who actually cares that they park a bit closer to the shop.
