to get mad at people using parent and child parking without a child?

There I was sitting in Tesco's carpark waiting for my little girl to wake up so I could shop and I must have watched 3 or 4 cars in the space of 10 mins use the spaces for parent and child even though they had none! One woman had two dogs but I suspect that that doesn't count! When I went in the store I told the lady on customer services but she didn't seem very interested and just said she'd tell " one of the lads to have a look". I was so mad! Actually the worst one was a guy who had 2 child seats in the car and no kids! Should know better! Ok , rant over!

I went to the cinema last month with my sister and mum. Mum drove, parked in a P&C place. She is 70, I am 42 and my sister is 40. My sister let out a gasp, Mum said 'bollocks, I'm a parent, you're my children, and it's 8.30 in the evening, anyone with young children shouldn't be in town this time of night anyway, they should all be in bed!' Good point well made Mother (I was more shocked that she said bollocks, tbh)

Pleb - your mum sounds fab!

Actually Getorf, I did have a go at someone for parking in a P&C space with car-seats but no actual children.

However this person is a close family member and I therefore know perfectly well that she is a lazy arse and was doing it because she thinks the world revolves round her!

ShirleyKnot · 21/07/2011 16:38

Lazyism there kungfu. You are now officially a Lazyist.

I hope you're happy.

jumpingbeans · 21/07/2011 16:39

I love PLEBs mum :o

TandB · 21/07/2011 16:42

No, laziness is fine by me. But not when coupled with insanely high expectations of the world around you and an over-inflated sense of entitlement.

Pure, simple laziness is absolutely fine though.

worraliberty · 21/07/2011 16:44

Parent and child parking started out as some little gimmick and now is seen by some to be law enforced by punishment of death. I think if anyone is clever enough to have children and be able to drive they should be able to cope with an ordinary car parking space

Oh aint that the truth! Grin

Mum2Luke · 21/07/2011 16:44

Our Sainsburys have a fine if you have no children and park in the spaces which is a good idea. I try to park as far as possible from the door as I don't take my 9 yr old, in fact I don't take anyone when am shopping.

I like to be able to do it, pay for it and escape as soon as possible.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/07/2011 16:47

I never ever go to the supermarket at school kick out time, or on a weekend (god forbid).

So there are barely any children around at the times I go anyway.

Maamaa · 21/07/2011 16:49

Yawning panda! How about an over inflated sense of importance?!

OP posts:
alemci · 21/07/2011 16:49

I think it is mean to park in these spaces if you have not got any children.

Riveninside · 21/07/2011 16:52

Im nosey. Are you American OP? Using the word 'mad' for angry.

Maamaa · 21/07/2011 16:52

Thanks alemci, that was my point in the first place. What a palaver!

'Actually, I was waiting for her to wake up to then put her in a push chair to shop, and the extra space is pretty handy. Nice to see how supportive so many of those comments were! I'm not surprise the store didn't act either, though if they were disabled spaces no doubt they would have!'

Reasonable adjustments to give disabled people equal access is a legal requirement. They could be prosecuted if they didn't act. Parking for parents is a privilege and therefore they are not obliged to do anything.

At Tesco recently with my DS (in his twenties). It's a 24 hour branch and it was 22.30. He remarked that at that hour the parents and children spaces should not be operative because the little buggers darlings ought to be in bed. I could not fault the logic!

No idea what this post means. Sorry.

Maamaa · 21/07/2011 16:54

No Riveninside, I lived there for a bit though so maybe that's why I use it. Plus it sounds a bit less serious than 'angry' does?
