I can't understand why people wish their husbands/wives/Sons/Daughter's happy birthday/anniversary on Facebook ... can't they just tell them to their face like normal people. I have a friend who did this and her husband isn't even on Facebook .... and I couldn't give a rats arse how my 'friends' children are doing at school or if they got a good end of year report or how many goals their darling son scored at his football match .... and those with busy social lives ..... well i'm just jealous Envy!!

Stop using Facebook

biddysmama · 20/07/2011 14:43

QueeferSutherland · 20/07/2011 14:44

It's what it's for, Mrs.

Also, see putting pic up from tropical holiday.

What ploppy said ( great name btwGrin)

Awomancalledhorse · 20/07/2011 14:46

OP, I had a friend who would talk to her husband via their facebook walls when they were in the same room. Thankfully we fell out.

I just 'hide' all the smug marrieds/parents/children/whoever it is that pisses me off.

TeaspoonThief · 20/07/2011 14:46

Facebook is bonkers isn't it? I think everyone should go on it so you can see just how odd some of your friends really are....

One of my friends (who i actually rather like) takes a pouty self portrait pic from above at least twice a week and posts it. Her DH posts things like hubba hubba etc.

Thing is - she's got him doing it now (taking pics of himself / them together)....and they look like a pair of swingers touting for business Grin - maybe i should tell them....

CogitoErgoSometimes · 20/07/2011 14:46

YANBU... FB is the 'Christmas Round Robin' type's wet dream. In the olden days they had to wait a whole year before they could bore us rigid with their perfect lives. Now they can bore us daily. I've found you can 'ignore' all messages from certain friends..... v peaceful

ruddynorah · 20/07/2011 14:47

They are sharing their news you miserable moo. What do you put on yours?

drivemecrazy63 · 20/07/2011 14:48

stop using it if it upsets you ...its for socialising thats not very sociable Shock

TeaspoonThief · 20/07/2011 14:48

Oooh yes agree - have a proper cull every so often - it's very empowering...

Sarsaparilllla · 20/07/2011 14:49

I hide all the statuses of people who bug me :)

QueeferSutherland · 20/07/2011 14:50

I'd rather see smugness than those badly spelled racist posts. You know the ones.

TeaspoonThief · 20/07/2011 14:50

It's just occurred to me that my most interesting friends aren't on FB at all ....

MrsNorthman · 20/07/2011 14:51

But its not news though. I wouldn't walk up to my friends and say guess what DS has had a brilliant school report he got all A's and VG's. It would be too embarrassing.

Teaspoon ... your friends antics made me laugh ... now where's my camera!

YABU. Why are you on FB if you hate it so much? People who whinge about it should be forced to post their latest status updates so the rest of us can pick holes in what you say.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/07/2011 14:52

And how the fuck is wishing your husband etc a happy birthday smug??

gramercy · 20/07/2011 14:55

A friend posted a picture of her baby and captioned it "Ootchi kooki koo" or letters to that effect. So her dp then writes "Oootchi kooki koo" and then she wrote it again and then he did...

I couldn't believe it.

You know Facebook is dead (and it is according to students at Harvard who think it is naffness itself) when this type of thing is rife.

mistressploppy · 20/07/2011 15:01

Hi Queefer

MorrisZapp · 20/07/2011 15:02

Why give a child a birthday card then, instead of 'telling them to their face'?

It's lovely to get a greeting, whether it's on FB, by phone, card, letter or of course face to face.

I think we can safely assume that those wishing their immediate family HB on FB have also said it to their faces.

YABU.

exoticfruits · 20/07/2011 15:08

Just 'unfriend' them if it bothers you.

AnnThology · 20/07/2011 15:09

why not turn wanky facebook off and grow up

Peachy · 20/07/2011 15:10

My fmaily are away from us, and we have many friends home; it's great that they can wish the boys a happy birthday or see that ds1 got such and such award; indeed, we actively post things on there each week under a self esteem scheme with school so that FIL can see what ds2 has been doing and can send compliments. We might see him once every 3 months if that and he works shifts that miss the boys entiely. It works.

Of course FB is dead; woudln;t be populated by people in their parenting eyars going on about tehgir kids otherwise woudl it?

usualsuspect · 20/07/2011 15:11

I like wanky fb

so ner

fedupofnamechanging · 20/07/2011 15:13

I saw one where a poster asked each of her friends to pick the 3rd letter of their name and then write one word beginning with that letter to describe the poster. Soooo tempting....
