He is just so wrong for the part. What were those casting people thinking?

His head is the wrong shape

his hair is wrong

he can't act

most glaringly wrong is his blue eyes.

HARRY POTTER HAS GREEN EYES FFS!

Potterwatch: You can play down the attractiveness of people, and they played up the attractiveness of Emma Watson, I didn't explain that properly Grin It's like the girl who plays Ugly Betty, she's actually a very pretty woman in her own right, but Ugly Betty wouldn't be someone you gave a second glance too and her clothes are so mismatched that you'd think she's odd. Hermione was supposed to wear quite frumpy clothes, things that don't flatter her and was a bopokworm, they managed that in the first two movies but from movie three they dressed EW up and in turn made Hermione a very pretty teen, iyswim?

Maggie Smith was perfect though, fully agree Grin

Remus Lupin was a bit off too, and Nymphadora. Tonks was supposed to look a lot more youthful, and Remus just didn't feel right to me. I didn't agree with Ginny either.

Rupert Grint was one of the most wel cast characters, along with the twins Grin

& DR was the right age. I'm a couple of months older than him and vaguely remember begging to go to the auditions as I was in year 6 or 7 and therefore the right age at the time Grin

I hate the films so much I haven't seen the last 3. They're just not a patch on the books.

Now you see, I agreed with this until Order of the Phoenix, which I felt made a better film than the book (which was very weak). Since then I think the films have been as good as the books (although different from them - but books can never really be made into identical films).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2011 21:52

Yes to the twins - they are fab.

I didn't dislike the guy playing Lupin as such, although he's not as I imagined him at all. I like his voice.

encyclogirl · 17/07/2011 22:11

Agree with op. I think this last movie was his best performance tho. What about bellatrix, lucius and narcissa? I loved that casting. Helena b c especially. Bloody brilliant (to quote ron). Sorry bout caps, stupid phone.

HumphreyCobbler · 17/07/2011 22:18

I dislike DR performances so much they distance me from the films. He reminds me of that Dorothy Parker review about running the "gamut of emotions - from A to B"

Such a shame they didn't make a better choice. Hermione is convincing, Ron slightly less so but gets away with it but Harry sucks. If only they had cast the one playing Draco as Harry. He has grown up acting well and looks much more convincing.

BulletWithAName · 17/07/2011 22:21

YANBU. The films are shite anyway.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2011 22:22

Oh no: I think Tom what'shisname is good as Draco but would have made a dreadful Harry.

acsec · 17/07/2011 22:23

He can't act and I hate his face

MirandaGoshawk · 17/07/2011 22:24

Agree with the OP - Harry should've been skinny and more geeky.

HumphreyCobbler · 17/07/2011 22:25

But Draco is capable of so much subtlety in his acting, he can act emotions without words, he is tall, thin and good looking. With black hair I think he would have made an excellent Harry.

LittleWhiteWolf · 17/07/2011 22:28

Um...get over it?

Of course none of the actors cast will be perfect because we had all read (what was it?) 4 of the books before the films came out. We all had ideas in our heads of how they should be, but that's the thing about book-to-film transitions: they aren't perfect. These are sweet little films that compliment the books, what else should they be; could they be?

Also saying that certain actors "grew up wrong" and rating their attractiveness in comparison to others is IMHO rather mean and childish.

lucykate · 17/07/2011 22:30

love the character of bellatrix, but do think hbc overacts, she reads all her lines varying between whispering and shouting. would have loved to have seen suranne jones as bellatrix after seeing her in doctor who.

am undecided about radcliffe, think he was better in some of the films, not so good in others.

bandgeek · 17/07/2011 22:34

I always pictured Siriusto look like Aragon from Lord Of The Rings. He was a disappointment in The 3rd film!

Ron is my favourite, great comic timing

ReadyToDrink · 17/07/2011 22:38

"He can't act and I hate his face"

Are you 7? Confused

Tryharder · 17/07/2011 22:47

I thought Daniel Radcliffe was an excellent HP when he was little but as an adult, he's too fat for Harry and not sexy enough. I think the HP in the book is quite cool and sexy in a not trying at all way. Ron is great and agree that Emma Watson is too slim and pretty - the Hermione in the book isnt like that at all.

Ginny is the worse disappointment to me though. The Ginny in the book is the height of cool; sexy, popular, good looking whereas the film Ginny is so meh. Also dislike Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix. She overacts and has turned an evil character into a joke/caricature.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/07/2011 22:48

I've never read the books (obviously as I'm 39)

I've seen all the films with dd and they are ok stories/actors.

I only went cos of yummy Alan Rickman.

There's something for everyone even if you can't be fannied with HP himself.

HumphreyCobbler · 17/07/2011 22:51

LittleWhiteWolf

The books and the films are seperate entities in my head anyway. I reserve the right to criticise an actor for not being able to act.

BulletWithAName · 17/07/2011 23:20

I can't stand Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. Richard Harris had him down to a tee, was definitely the best casting there, IMO Gambon can't compare to his performances in the first films.

'I've never read the books (obviously as I'm 39)'

I'm 38, and I've read them all. So has my MIL and my DH. There are some classic children's books that I still enjoy reading, and am mega excited about reading to DS when he's old enough.

Nevertooearlyforcake · 18/07/2011 00:29

Hello to Jason Isaacs

missmiss · 18/07/2011 01:04

DR has always been wrong for Harry: I remember seeing the first picture if the cast on the cover of a magazine in Safeway (I was 14) and being appalled that this gnome was going to be Harry.

Emma Watson, however, was abysmal in the first film and has got better and better; I really like her. Neither Rupert Grint nor Alan Rickman are the characters I see in my head whenever I've read the books, but I think they do a great job in the films. Agree that Draco and Luna are spot-on.

OldMacEIEIO · 18/07/2011 10:09

DR might not have Green eyes, but he had the correctly shaped scar in exactly the right place
that made him the natural choice

BellaBearisWideAwake · 18/07/2011 10:21

the actor who played Neville is rather gorgeous now
