Well I'm the other side of 30 and have had 2VBs and mine is fine

OriginalPoster · 16/07/2011 08:41

40 something, 4vbs, mooncup is the best thing since sliced bread.

PMSL at builders bucket - I think that's the 3rd size up so do be sure to ask for it loudly at the counter of Boots.

Springydaffs - that's reassuring. Think I will invest in smaller one

pantaloons · 16/07/2011 12:55

Thanks oneof, I'll be sure to ask! I really must do some pelvic floor exercises at some point. I don't think the 3 a week I do when I suddenly remember do a big lot for down there! Grin

Fuzzpig I'm really disorganised and I love mine - I find it makes things easier. You can't get caught out forgetting to take something with you, if you know your period is due you can even put it in before it starts.

Technically you don't have to sterilise it and I don't sterilise mine after every month. You can always sterilise with something like milton too which makes it easier as you can just put it in a little tub and leave it. I prefer to rinse it if possible but it's possible to get away with not if you're in a public toilet. But they last so long I find I can change it morning and night anyway, so usually at home.

TSS I think is a risk with tampons because of the fibres being a good environment for that bacteria to grow, and isn't associated with mooncup use.

BertieBotts · 16/07/2011 13:14

Pirate - (TMI warning) have you tried wetting the top slightly (under the tap) and then sort of rub it slightly around the entrance to your fanjo to get the edges lubricated a little bit. You could also try different folds. (Of the mooncup. Not your fanjo Wink) Also if you push out like doing a poo it can open things up a little bit. Or Blush if you are slightly aroused it's easier.

I found it always hurt (like a stretching pain) on taking it out, but I've found a different way to do it now, it's hard to explain, except that the edge which pops out, I was holding that so it came out at the side of the hole, if you do it at the top, it hurts less. This is a really bad explanation, sorry. Also make sure you are breaking the seal rather than just pulling!

FuzzpigFourFiveSix · 16/07/2011 13:35

That's really great info Mooncuppers (that's the collective term right? :o)

I really like the idea of rinsing it in the shower with me

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 16/07/2011 15:48

God I almost forgot the ultimate Mooncuppers' rule!! How could I have been so remiss????

I first learned this when I bought my mooncup about 4 years ago, as recommended on MN, of course.

never, never, but NEVER show your dh/dp the contents of your mooncup, no matter how grusomely fascinating you find it on occasion.
No amount of preparation will make that acceptable for him.
It's the absolute definition of TMI

(and my dh is a theatre nurse who does plastic surgery, gynae and bones)

spookshowangel · 16/07/2011 16:09

that song made me throw up in my mouth.......................foo foo...........fucking foofoo!!!!!

MeconiumHappens · 16/07/2011 16:40

Another mooncup lover over here. Is lover a bit over enthusiastic, perhaps Blush When i first heard about them thought it sounded a little boak worthy but am now a total convert and have spread the word so lots of my friends use them too. Cheap, easy, comfy and eco.

Blindcavesalamander · 16/07/2011 16:53

I love my mooncup.
I love that song.
It's fun and it's jolly. And why not love your vagina! I do!
Seriously, mooncups are so practical, so environmentally friendly, and save so much money.
I don't know any men who don't love their penises.

kerala · 16/07/2011 18:24

catgirls with regards to your your rationale of "I do other good things for the environment so i dont have to do this" honestly I find a mooncup better for selfish reasons not just environmental. So I dont see it as something tiresome but obligatory like recycling it is genuinely better than tampons and incidentally for the environment. Am a total convert - love going on holiday and only having to take one tiny bag containing mooncup rather than boxes and faff of tampons. Plus whole idea of tampons sitting there in bathroom bin yeeeuch.

catgirl1976 · 16/07/2011 18:49

Mmm maybe - I am just a bit squeamish on this one for some reason - not rational I know

spookshowangel · 16/07/2011 19:05

i love my vagina, i do not love it being referred to as a foofoo. and they didnt have cunt in there once.

PandaG · 16/07/2011 19:15

really comfortable p- so much so that it took this thread to remind me that I am on and needed to empty mine - had forgotten to do so since last night!

frankie3 · 16/07/2011 19:15

I bought my first mooncup today! Can anyone give me a few tips about putting it in and getting it out as I am a bit worried, it looks so big! I got the bigger size as I have 2 dc and I am well over 30. And should I cut the sticking put bit off?

SybilBeddows · 16/07/2011 19:26

trim a bit of the stem off because it's not very comfortable having it there, leave a little bit.

put it in wet to make it slip in more easily. There are instructions in the box about how to fold it to put it in. It's not big when it's folded up.
When you take it out you can either just grab and pull or you can help a bit by pushing with your vaginal muscles.

the first few times as you get the hang of it you might spill a bit when you take it out, so if you have carpet in your bathroom then do it in the bath.

It honestly only took me one period to get the hang of it.

Catgirl- the funny thing is that I find it has made me less squeamish about menstrual blood; it somehow seems fresher and less yucky than it used to when it was on a tampon or a pad.

JaqSparrow · 16/07/2011 19:27

i hated my moon cup. i found it awful and panful and a PITA.

A1980 · 16/07/2011 19:32

I haven't read all of this, just got as far as the cat fight!

But as for the comments about wrapping the tampon in a plastic bag or nappy bag.... they're not biodegradeable. Loo paper is the best.

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 16/07/2011 19:38

I have a Mooncup.

I also had my three children vaginally, and they were huge, so I bought the large Mooncup.

My arse then fell into my vagina (not a good look) so I had to have a designer vagina on the NHS.

MY MOONCUP IS NOW TOO BIG FOR ME AND I MUST BUY THE SMALLER ONE.

I am SO happy that I'm telling all of you about it. Thanks for listening.

I'm now off to shoot pingpong balls at the birds in the apple tree.....

(Buy a Mooncup. They save you shitloads of money and are fantastic. All rubbery and springy and lovely. Bit like my ladybits now)

(TMI? Thought so)

A1980 · 16/07/2011 19:45

LostMyidentity I nearly spat out my coffee when I read your post. HILARIOUS!

I'm over 30, no DC's yet Sad but i do loads of yoga and pilates. I need the smaller size which i still find hard to remove.

BitOfFun · 16/07/2011 19:47
nomorelego · 16/07/2011 19:49

Ooh! Catchy tune!!

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 16/07/2011 19:58

AND I've needed to go and wee for the past hour. Muscles of STEEL, I tells ya...

Glitterknickaz · 16/07/2011 20:22

Love mine.
I used to get the most horrendous cramps with tampons, I don't with my mooncup.

I cut the stem right off mine.
