OP I haven't used one before but was planning to start shortly before getting pregnant. I will be using one after my LO gets here and my cycle is back to normal though. Much better all round IMO.

SybilBeddows · 15/07/2011 21:28

I think it's true about having less painful periods with a Mooncup. I used a tampon recently for the first time in years when I mislaid my Mooncup and I had cramps, which normally I don't.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2011 21:29

Brilliant idea :o I bought one of those stupid variety packs so I can use one of the mini ones as the tail too.

Honestly, I'd distribute them around public toilets if I didn't think they would get binned straight away

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2011 21:30

and you can use it before your period starts too!

lachesis · 15/07/2011 21:35

I love my mooncup! Since learning about it here, and using it, my periods have become lighter and far more managable. It's so much cheaper, too, with tampons about £4/box now.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 15/07/2011 22:19

I'd lost my mooncup for ages but then found it again this week and I'd like to start using again especially as next period I'll be in Thailand and I don't fancy tampon & pantliner palavers there. I'd gotten on quite well with it but had experienced a bit of leaking and needed to use pantliners.

But I'm wondering if maybe I bought the wring size? I bought the one for post-childbirth fanjos but I had 2 c-sections. Does this mean the smaller one could be better?

allegrageller · 15/07/2011 22:22

lachesis can the mooncup actually make your period lighter?! isnt' it just that you need to change it less often?

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 15/07/2011 22:32

Lol! Just been on mooncup website and smaller size only suitable if I was under 30 and/or did so much yoga-type exercise my fanjo was as taut as a snare drum. Er.......

(altho I did get a fanny-compliment from my smear nurse the other day: she said it was all very nice & tidy !)

HowlingBitch · 15/07/2011 22:32

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios It says here that you only go up a cup if it was vaginal births unless your over 30. I just bought mine so i'm no expert though! HTH :)

X post!

Lucky you! My last smear nurse (which was my first smear test) said nothing but 'Spread em' and 'Done' What's your secret?! :o

You can actually monitor your periods with a mooncup, I think mine have gotten lighter (definitely shorter duration), & fewer clots (sorry TMI).

nellyjane · 15/07/2011 22:43

When I went back to using a mooncup when my periods returned a year after having my baby, I had a few problems with it leaking - despite having replaced my old one with the bigger size Wink It was a great motivation to do a few more pelvic floor exercises, and now it's working fine again...

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 15/07/2011 22:43

Well, what can I say...?! You've either got it or you ain't. WinkGrin

allegrageller · 15/07/2011 22:49

fuzzy I am clueless about the measuring thing- is the middle line 7 ml and the top one 15ml?

HowlingBitch · 15/07/2011 22:50

Smug fecker!

I put a curse of a lifetime of ingrown hairs upon you! Muawhaha! :o

OP posts:
lachesis · 15/07/2011 22:52

It's made it far less painful, more comfortable and managable for me, all! I'm a true believer.

allegrageller · 15/07/2011 22:56

yeah I adore mine too. I can't believe I spent so many bloody years wasting money and clogging up the environment with tampons and towels.

Also I really can't see how pouring out a bit of blood is any worse than pulling out a soaked tampon or changing a soiled sanitary towel.

piratecat · 15/07/2011 23:16

mine hurts when i take it out, or put it in. right at the entrance of the vagina. and i had a vaginal birth and got really stretched. So i don't understand why it's quite difficult to get in and out. Does noone else find it uncomfortable to do this?

springydaffs · 15/07/2011 23:32

I used the wrong size for ages and in the first few (heavy) days it leaked. Then I got the smaller size and plain sailing from then on. i had 2 c/s's and am ahem well over 30. Actually, my period days are over and I am gutted that I didn't get to use the miraculous mooncup for longer...

fuzzywuzzy · 16/07/2011 00:09

allegregeller the measurements are written on the mooncup!!! I was able to tell a Dr exactly how much I lose per day, I was in A&E at the time he was rather startled that I gave him ml's instead of how many times I changed a pad!!!! I thought it was funny!

FloraFox · 16/07/2011 01:12

boak

Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/07/2011 01:22

I'm another mooncup convert- soo much better than tampons and no leaks. Bit fiddly, but worth it imo.

TillyIpswitch · 16/07/2011 03:43

I have thought about switching to a mooncup for ages and never got around to it, but will on the strength of this thread.

When you look at the ick factor of tampons vs mooncups objectively, tampons are actually way ickier.

notevenamousie · 16/07/2011 05:21

I have one too and am totally converted - never need to spend anything again! That's got to be good, before you add the environmental stuff. It didn't take any getting used to for me - it's comfortable enough I have to remind myself it's there.

pantaloons · 16/07/2011 08:31

I keep thinking about getting one, but have had 3 natural births and am fast approaching 30. I have a feeling it may just fall out! Last time I had a smear (oh Lord I was due last month and haven't got yet!) I chatted about inane crap and she had to eventually say "er, we are done here." I'm not sure I realised she had even started!

So, my question to you - If your fanny is the size of a builders bucket, do they work?
