BimboNo5 · 15/07/2011 22:12

Not youTOF- the one with the phallic appendage on her head.

Gooseberrybushes · 15/07/2011 22:14

Op - guess you are faultless

people in glass houses and that

duckdodgers · 15/07/2011 22:15

Waves at you dementedma, I could have seen you, I used to live in Largs and up until recently visited it a lot as I had to get the ferry to Millport to see MIL.

BimboNo5 · 15/07/2011 22:16

Shall we open a book on how long it takes a certain fatist to mention how at size 16 they couldn't even wipe their arse...

Gooseberrybushes · 15/07/2011 22:17

well I've heard that you're told

either

a. go public and we'll look after you

or
b. go it alone and you will be hunted down

cos you would be for sure and not by people who want good things for you

TheBolter · 15/07/2011 22:17

Getorf - yes, dh and I agreed that it would be nice to have enough extra to give away, but then I got on one about how it should be split, and how it would be obvious because we're a close knit family and it would be obvious if we were all to become suddenly loaded, and there are some people in my family who actually don't need any more money (IMVO Wink) so I'd have to do means-tested donations, which would be potentially awkward. Smile

Oh yeah, it really would be dreadful to win 20 mil. Sigh....

fit2drop · 15/07/2011 22:29

Well OP , doesn't matter how much money anyone has , common decency cannot be bought. Fortunately the lottery winners have common decency.
Unfortunately you don't.

Lord save us from a twat like the OP winning such a vast amount,
even Ghandi would smack you upside the bloody head.

Bohica · 15/07/2011 22:31

Ignoring the op's post as I thought this was a thread to chat about spending millions.

I made a cashier laugh today when DD2 told her "if we had won the lottery mummy said she would buy me a new pony every day of the week" & I shot back "you could have had what ever you wanted because the first thing I would have purchased would have been a nanny to help me with the 3 of you"

DD1 said she didn't want to win, when I asked her why not she said she would worry having that much money in the house.

There is a massive 16 bed house in our area & I have often day dreamed about winning the lottery & opening a restbite centre for children & adults with LD, Whilst in restbite we would tale them all around the world on mini holidays whilst their families recouped & the staff ratio would be 1:1 & the staff paid a very decent wage Smile

AgentZigzag · 15/07/2011 22:33

Is this a good example of a thread the fishy poster would start then?

Gooseberrybushes · 15/07/2011 22:34

i don't think it is really but it's her name that gives away

i don't think it's wseems like her so much but what do i know

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2011 23:00

Gooseberry - if that is the case (accept the publicity or else) I would have threatened them with 'I am worth 160 million you snivelling bastard, if I don't want publicity I don't want it, and I am going to employ Rebekah Brooks to dig the dirt on you and prevent you doing the dirty on me'

See, this is why I should not have this much money. I would turn into an evil machiavellian schemer like Rupert Murdoch.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2011 23:00

Nah, not a good example of the OPs post imo.

But most of us have posted daft shit in our time.

RichTeaAreCrap · 15/07/2011 23:03

it is the fishy one. And a perfect example of a thread she would start.

NonnoMum · 15/07/2011 23:07

They look like lovely, lovely, lovely people and sooooo adorable. They were witty and funny and very brave indeed to go in front of the cameras.

They seem so wonderful I think I would like to meet them.

I wonder if somehow, we are long lost cousins??

Perhaps I'll try and contact them, the sweethearts.

bumpsoon · 15/07/2011 23:13

Never mind rain on their parade , people could piss on me from a great height if i was lucky enough to win that much cash , 90% of which i would give to charities

Gooseberrybushes · 15/07/2011 23:15

yy getorf -- but I think probably not a single one of us on this thread or indeed many "civilians" at all would be anything more than a vole in the headlights of this and have a single tiny clue how to manage the financial and cyber security involved and the real life privacy concerns

basically if you won even if you didn't go public you would be found by criminal people and vulnerable to blackmail, kidnap, extortion etc etc

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2011 23:18

Exactly - didn't the woman in Ireland who won 80 million or whatever a couple of years ago get threatened with her daughter being kidnapped, and had to go into hiding.

A couple of people in Gloucestershire won 50 million a couple of years ago, I think that would be manageable. But three times that is obscene. It must be very scary actually.

let's face it most people would be happy to be debt free and secure with a bit for holidays

you can only be so much happy

this much money would freak me out totally, have stopped doing the lottery cos of it truly

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/07/2011 23:22

I was roundly teased at work this week for saying I would be scared of that much money.

Mind you, I never buy a lottery ticket anyway because I loathe gambling, so it is a moot point really Grin

tallulahxhunny · 15/07/2011 23:31

IF you won 161 million why would you care what some twat on MN thought of you? they are rich you arent , who has the last laugh??

Thingiebob · 15/07/2011 23:54

What a mean unpleasant thread!

Hevian · 16/07/2011 10:45

OP it wasn't pies that was their downfall; it was fish, chips and Irn Bru apparently.

"Neighbours described their only hobby as ?takeaways? with their favourite being the town?s Fish and Chicken Bar.

One worker there said: ?They come in here three times a week. They always have fish and chips and either a bottle of Coke or Irn Bru. But they have never ordered a battered Mars bar.?"

In all seriousness let's hope they find good health & nutrition personal trainers so that they can get their fitness back on track and be able to enjoy their winnings. At the moment it must be impossible to do much with their mobility problems.

littlemisssarcastic · 16/07/2011 11:36

I feel so happy for them...and I hope they have a happy ending. I agree with a comment I read where the poster (not on this site) said "what will happen is true friends will stay away because they will not want you to think they are scrounging. You will find you suddenly have new friends and relatives who will pop round to congratulate you. You will be continuously bothered by salesmen with this commodity or that, this investment plan or another. Charities will hound you to the ground. Your vicar will be your new spiritual helper. He will come around every day to help you cope (and mention the church roof needs doing). People will say you should now pay for your health care and not use the NHS. You will have to move because your neighbours will think you are snobby when you have the 42" TV delivered or get a new car. If you move to a new posh area you won't fit in as you are not used to being wealthy. Others will say you should not receive a state pension now you're rich. You will not be able to do anything right for anybody."

As well as this, there is the very real risk of unscrupulous individuals or organisations coming after you for your money. Let's face it, this is a massive amount of money. It seems to me that most of the people who've won massive amounts of money, and rocketed to extreme wealth overnight, have found it has been detrimental to their lives, and they end up very unhappy.
The dream is lovely, the dream is what keeps people buying tickets and fantasising about what they could buy with the winnings, but how many people dream of the reality?
I think I'd rather dream of winning and maybe win a million or two, not this much.
Wasn't one of the massive lottery winners in Ireland paid a visit by the IRA? Didn't the woman who won £70mil end up living like a hermit? Didn't the USA winner of £320mil end up living a secluded life?

How can anyone have the skills to deal with this amount of wealth thrust upon them, when they have never moved in these circles, know no one who is as wealthy, my god, it's my idea of a nightmare, the more I think about it.

I hope Camelot supports them in every which way. I'm not sure it will bring them happiness and that's not me being nasty, just honest.
