I claim tax credits and could work more than I do but choose not to. I'm also pg with #5 which was unplanned and so will be claiming even more tax credits soon. Who wants to come and lecture me?

I claim what I am entitled to and what the government says I can have......this seems to get peoples knickers in a twist AIBU?

OP posts:
KidderminsterKate · 08/07/2011 12:21

yes I would...the first 4 were all planned (one set of twins) and concieved with my DH we did claim TC but this was never at any stage a reason to go for it..the 5th was unplanned so......

it is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that people have more kids solely because of TC....this is because I child costs more than you would ever be entitled to, so whats the point?

"it is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that people have more kids solely because of TC....this is because I child costs more than you would ever be entitled to, so whats the point?"

Well personally i applaud you
You have four kids , another on the way and you work 30 hours a week
Anything over 30 hours is classed as full time
Bet you work more than most that have posted on this thread

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/07/2011 12:53

It's people like you who got the country into the state it is in!! It's people like you who give the others on benefit who genuinnely need it a bad reputation - you must be so proud...well obv you are or you wouldnt have started this thread.

Like someone else said though, it makes me glad I am not like you, you obv dont have any pride if you are prepared just to spounge off the country. What you gonna do when all your DC's grow up and your benefits stop - the country will be so fucked by then, drained by all the spoungers, that you will live your old age on poverty.....what a lovely future you will have!!

milkybarkidsgirlfriend · 08/07/2011 12:54

I dont know how anyone can afford to have a large family, hence my dh responsibly had the snip, but maybe that is because we arnt elegible for benefits, credit etc, so I have no idea how much families actually receive.

Merlotmonster · 08/07/2011 12:55

are you to be congratulated that you work 30 hours?? If you choose to have 5 kids, then who do you think should pay.
If you situation is a genuine need, then fine, but posting comments like that gets peoples' backs up.
PS - i voted Tory so hopefully they will make this system fairer !

(that'll stir it)

VelvetSnow · 08/07/2011 12:59

The OP can do what she wants, it's none of my business.

But I do believe that her defiant "Who wants to come and lecture me" was a little uncalled for.

I wouldn't discuss this with anyone in RL if that was their attitude so I'm not prepared to give this OP time of day any longer.

SortingHardHat · 08/07/2011 12:59

I always forget how delicious Jacobs Water Biscuits are smothered in butter. Tasty.

cjbartlett · 08/07/2011 12:59

I'm a bit baffled by this
Everyone who works and has kids can claim tax credits
Isn't everyone sorting it all out before the 31 July like the adverts remind us
We're just getting what we're entitled too

VelvetSnow · 08/07/2011 13:00

oh, just plain bread and butter - gotta be Lurpak.

SortingHardHat · 08/07/2011 13:01

No, you need the crunch and the buttery yumminess of real butter.

cjbartlett · 08/07/2011 13:01

The cost of all the shoes for five kids must be astronimical

And what if they all want to go to uni

5x tuition feed < shudder >

VelvetSnow · 08/07/2011 13:03

Ha - I only get real butter with my bread roll in restaurants Grin

What type of butter do you buy HardHat?

Glad to have some purpose on this thread :o

We buy some Lidl's own brand of anchor type real butter. Half the price and can't taste the difference. It now becomes clear why my weight is rapidly ballooning!

sevendwarves · 08/07/2011 13:06

What a lot of nastiness of this thread.

I really have no problem with the OP working 30 hours and claiming CTC.

"It's people like you who got the country into the state it is in!! It's people like you who give the others on benefit who genuinnely need it a bad reputation" - this is quite frankly one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. Because working 30 hours a week is so much worse than those claiming IS who have never worked a day in their lives and have no intention of doing so, while their rent, council tax etc are all paid for them? Or perhaps those claiming DLA with bugger all wrong with them simply because they can get away with it?

jellybeans · 08/07/2011 13:08

'there may be a fixed amount for 'three or more children' rather than a price per piece.'

Yes that is what i read on some tory proposal or other.

cuteboots · 08/07/2011 13:08

This makes so glad I only have one child and work 40 hours a week to support him!! Can someone give me detail on the cash for kids scheme I might go out this weekend and work on that one! hee hee

sevendwarves · 08/07/2011 13:09

Also am I right to assume that those being nasty to the OP don't claim CTC or CB even if they're entitled to them?

Triggles · 08/07/2011 13:09

The thing I find positively amusing is the offended attitude of those who seem to feel that anyone on benefits should be humbly grateful for them, not speak about them except in hushed tones, and essentially keep their head down. Hmm

I'm a SAHM, DH works PT, I have a long term medical condition that makes work difficult for me however does not qualify as disability, and DS2 is disabled and I am his carer. We get WTC, CTC, CB, and some HB. At this point in time we cannot change our situation, so we're simply doing our best within it. I'm not ashamed of it, even though some have implied that we should be. We do the best we can with what we have, and that's that. Glass houses and stones comes to mind. (along with some that are simply arrogant and condescending, but there's always someone, isn't there?)

I'll admit (and I know I'm not the only one) that I am tired of the constant putting-down of those who are not as well off financially. All it takes is one little redundancy to level the playing field... ask a few that have been levelled by it.
