How miserable are you that the Tories are in power?

I feel tense and twitchy. I used to enjoy reading the politic section/ other political forums, but I fear if I keep on going there and reading more and more about Tory plans, I will give myself a heart attack.

I loath them but worst I fear them. I am anxious for this country and the ordinary man and woman.

Dave makes me feel insane with hatred.

I have a colleague who is in love with the Tories. I don't share biscuits with him any more.

Dave makes me itch. All over.

'So easy to keep blaming labour'

and never more right to.
Some would claim, Labour were not to blame. Of course they deny, prevaricate and lie, one thing's for sure, they're always the same.

electra · 08/07/2011 19:02

I'm as miserable as I possibly could be.

However, I'm possibly even more miserable that the labour party does not look electable at the moment. So we're stuck with them.

Carminagetsprimal · 08/07/2011 19:06

Aquashiv - in the 13 years labour were in power - what did they actually do to put right all that the evil Tories had done - ie; did they stop the 'right to buy' scheme.

FreudianSlipper · 08/07/2011 19:08

YANBU

I swig from feeling very angry to fearful of what they are actually doing adn just glad that teh reigns are being held back a little on some of their policies

we are going through a hard time, labour were not perfect but for many their standard of living has risen under the labour government, it will not have done so and will not do so under the tories

LynetteScavo · 08/07/2011 19:09

I have a weird "bring it on" on mentality going on.

I'm strangely looking forward to endless strikes and only being able to afford to eat baked beans on toast.Confused (Have you seen the price of baked beans and bread these days? Shock)

claig · 08/07/2011 19:10

I'm as miserable as a lark in spring

glitterkitten · 08/07/2011 19:11

I'm delighted they are in power. The last lot left us, quite literally, high and dry.

claig · 08/07/2011 19:13

exactly, up socialist's creek without a paddle, just a note saying sorry "there's no money left"

claig · 08/07/2011 19:17

exactly, apart from the financial collapse, a lack of regulation, some foreign wars, higher taxation and no money left in the pot, what have New Labour ever done for us?

Chen23 · 08/07/2011 19:19

What a selective memory Tories have

Right up until just before the credit crunch Osborne and co were committing to match NuLabour spending and in fact committed to increasing spending on the NHS

Not long before that Cameron endorsed a white paper from the vulcan Redwood which recommended LESS regulation of banks and especially mortgage lending.

So they were for the same profligate spending spree NuLab were on and were in fact pro DEregulation of the banking industry.

Hard for them to take the moral highground on this (although they're giving it a good go)

FreudianSlipper · 08/07/2011 19:21

that was very much left over from thatchers time its really started to take hold in the 80'd

they bought in a minimum wage, more laws to protect women while on maternity leave, more laws supporting employees, tax credits, working tax credits

it is still a struggle for many to make ends meet but i can remember how some of my family adn friends families really really struggled because their wages were so dismally low

EggyAllenPoe · 08/07/2011 19:24

not sad at all.

id cards gone

'throw money at it' problem solving gone.

riding roughshod over civil liberties - gone.

and i think many people posting are forgetting labour pledged massive spending cuts too.

Carminagetsprimal · 08/07/2011 19:26

The gap between rich and poor grew to record levels under labour -
Sorry.

claig · 08/07/2011 19:27

agree FreudianSlipper, Labour did some good things, but they are outweighed by the enormity of what they got wrong, and we all now have to suffer the consequences of their mismanagement. The people were asked if they wanted them back, and they said "no thanks"

MrsBuntyisRatherGrumpy · 08/07/2011 19:31

Sandy Toksvig hit the nail on the head when she said it's the conservatives who have put the 'n' in cuts.

FreudianSlipper · 08/07/2011 19:31

no the gap grew between those earning very high wages, they are far more people earning very high wages this is what has grown, i would like to see less earning such a high wage and for it to be more shared out but its not

the average way in some parts of the country when labour took over was £2 an hour. i can remember earning £3 an hour

MrsBuntyisRatherGrumpy · 08/07/2011 19:34

The people were asked if they wanted them back, and they said "no thanks"
claig, I don't recall 'the people' saying 'yes please' to the tories either. Let's not forget they were not properly elected - they didn't win the election

FreudianSlipper · 08/07/2011 19:36

because it stops people being exploited and secondly jsut because someone is on a low wage that does not mean they should have to really struggle they should be comfortable, everyone working should live a comfortable life. we need roadsweepers and shop assistants too as well as teachers and bankers

that is not to say that those on benefits should struggle but working should give you a comfortable life whatever your job
