To wonder who exactly will buy the Sun on Sunday when it comes out?

I read the Sun in the week. And yes, I confess, I read the NOTW.

So in the pile of Sunday papers I will probably go for The Sun on Sunday.

Like I should imagine the other 2.8m buyers of the NOTW probably will.

You don't have any problems with the ethics (or lack of) displayed at all smokin?

I always imagined that readers of The Sun and NOTW would be semi-literate but you seem to be able to read and write. Why would you read it though?

I asked the question and I don't think I am being out of order to ask why smokin has made that choice and if they do not have a problem with the issues. I am not "having a go" I am asking a question.

I was going to come on and state that NOTW was a rag, with loads of offers, vouchers and trashy celeb stuff in that sold for a lot less than those magazines did, so I assume the Sun will rebrand as that is a huge market to lose. But I don't want to hang around for a bunfight.

My dh buys it every week along with the Sunday broadsheets, despite boycotting the Sun 10 years ago , he knows its shit, but likes the sports section.

My Mum gets it for the trashy gossip, as a Sunday indulgence.

I know plenty of people who read Sun/NOTW - and they're not the stereotyped view of 'Sun' reader. They say they read it for the sport, as a piece of fluff and 'for a laugh'. But they buy it and read it.

I don't know that telling them that they're thick is the best way to persuade them not to, tbh. Like when Guardian readers emailed the Americans to tell them not to vote for Bush, I think it can backfire.

If I can just waft the fumes of smugness away from that last paragraph, I really hope that their readers will think twice on Sunday when they walk into their newsagents/supermarket and pick up a more reputable paper. Big Sluts Like it Hard, for instance. Or something.

Ah no probs Honey. I am just genuinely interested though in whether people who used to read NOTW or currently read the Sun will boycott or not and if they will read the "new" Sunday paper. I feel the "sacrifice" of the NOTW will make very very little difference and want to know if thats true

But equally I can't say hand on heart that I will never buy it, papers editor and standpoints change over the years. I can't boycott all the far reaches of NI and have huge respect for those that are doing so.

But for now, No I won't purchase it.

Coulson is getting arrested tomorow morning. But I think Murdoch will be fine as people will carry on buying the Sun, will buy this re-named NOTW and possibly he will get the bskyb deal (although surely not?!?)

I see no problem with Page 3 either.

I prefer The Sun. I prefer their way of reporting on news (dont get me wrong some bits wind me up, but on the whole) I dont like The Daily Mail. Or The Mirror. And the Broadsheets are just not for me. I prefer knowing the essentials, with a bit of gossip. I read the BBC news online, and SkyNews too.

I guess its similar in the way that I know about the whole Nestle thing too - but I still decide to eat KitKats, I choose not to boycott them myself

I pick my battles. I choose my life. And I choose to read a this particular paper. Doesnt mean I agree with what they always print, but thats my decision.

I am by no means illiterate. Or "thick". I am a 28 year old (soon to be divorced) mother of 2, working and fairly well educated with a Grammar school education.

You cant judge everyone just by the paper they choose to read.
