to be horrified at a 6 month old eating chocolate?

Just seen a picture of a 6 month old baby of an acquaintance eating a bar of chocolate. This baby is only 2 weeks older than my ds2 who is just eating purees. I'm sure dc1 did not have chocolate til after he was a year due to the caffeine content and the fact that it really is unnecessary to give them it. Aibu to think this is way too early for chocolate and feel quite horrified or am I being ott?

YES. DS1 couldn't have been much older than that we he discovered my stash of Lindt in the coffee table and had a scoff. Won't kill them

Erm, it depends. My 7mo DS has licked a bar of chocolate that I've been holding a couple of times in his life, and I haven't stopped him. Does that make me a bad mother? I don't think so. If the parents are feeding a 6mo chocolate regularly then YANBU...though horrified is a stronger word than I'd use.

What size are we talking here? Finger of fudge or 200gm Galaxy? Still hahahahahaha

I tend to save feeling 'horrified' for horrific situations...like murder, rape and other truly horrific things.

Parents giving their babies a bar of chocolate...well that's just unecessary and a bit stupid since what they don't know at that age they don't miss.

So YANBU to think it's bad

My DC1 didn't have any chocolate until she was 2, but DC3 is 14 months loves chocolate and is generally offered nibbles by older sibling plus he has been known to help himself to the chocolate stash in the cupboard.

YABU, it's not your child, and so therefore not your place to be horrified. Hah! You don't even know if he was eating it or holding it.

YABU and OTT. Chocolate isn't an essential food group for a baby but it's not the worst thing you can give them either. I'm sure the baby will survive.

Call SS immediately! Chocolate is just the beginning. It will be fruit shoots next!

I wouldnt give sweets though. f she steals them then I think shes earned them

She started walking at 8mths and tried to pinch my wine. 'm not so slack with that though

Chocolate does not contain Caffeine

Ok. Horrified is a strong word. I do have a tendency to exaggerate .... but did feel surprised? Shocked? Worried? ( mixture of all 3 perhaps).
It looked like a mars bar ...

Chances are the baby grabbed the chocolate, stuffed it into its mouth and the parents took a picture. I have a picture of my DD at 4 months with a big fat chip shop chip in her mouth that she grabbed out of my hand when she was sat on my knee whinging. It was so funny that we took a photo and the worst that happened was she sucked it, pulled a face and carried on screaming (the reason she was on my knee in the first place)!

Save your "horror" for truly horrifying things and dust of your sense of humour for everything else.
