AIBU?

to be horrified at a 6 month old eating chocolate?

Just seen a picture of a 6 month old baby of an acquaintance eating a bar of chocolate. This baby is only 2 weeks older than my ds2 who is just eating purees. I'm sure dc1 did not have chocolate til after he was a year due to the caffeine content and the fact that it really is unnecessary to give them it. Aibu to think this is way too early for chocolate and feel quite horrified or am I being ott?

I dont know a 6 month old that could eat a mars bar so clearly it was either a "omg look what the baby did" moment, or a set up! Try seeing the funny side, it makes life much nicer :)

It wasn't the fact a child was eating chocolate it was just the age. My 22 month old does a great job of emptying the biscuit tin and we could probably become shareholders in quavers but obviously naively thought most parents would avoid chocolate this young.

I dread to think what you'd think of the pic someone managed to get of my dd at about 9 mths grabbing a pint glass of the table and almost having a sip of beer! As someone else said, baby prob grabbed the choc, looked cute so a pic was taken. I wouldnt worry about it x

As a principle i don't think YABU at all actually, I think chocolate for children that young (and until school-age earliest tbh) is really unnecessary. But as others have said I guess you don't know the context of the photo. If my little one had stolen a pack of buttons and gorged himself on them I'm pretty sure I would have taken a comedy photo!

you allow your older child quavers yet you are horrified that a younger child may have had a taste of chocolate

I do think people are being a bit personally mean in response to the OP though

Hahaha!! I had that problem with DS. I thought he would curl up and turn yellow in the end. He cannot stand them now though (He's 3)

I guess iabu then! I'll repeat though it wasn't the fact it was chocolate or that it was a child it was just the age. I asked the question as I was genuinely surprised at my reaction. I'm glad I've made some people chuckle tonight!

Both my dh's grandmothers (as in one dh, two grandmothers, not the other way round) bought us chocolate at Easter to give our dd, then 4 months!

Um, we ate it.

I'm pretty horrified that you are feeding your child purees! At least your acquaintance is baby-led.

Ds stole some chocolate when he was about that age. He is now 19 months and rarely has it preferring fruit. I don't think the odd bit of chocolate will do him any harm really!

My son had his first chocolate at his first Easter. He was 6 weeks.

I'm kidding! He was 10 weeks.

Still kidding.

He was, in reality, 8 months. And he didn't like it at first. Now he does at 2 years!

Chocolate is going to be better for a child than quavers any day!
There is no need to eat chocolate, but it tastes very nice, so why not share this with your child (not huge amounts of corse).

Mars bar you say?

Maybe the baby felt that "Work, Rest, Play" really spoke to him and he just had to try the product... you know what they say about these babies nowadays, very impressionable.

Horrified how OTT! I would be horrified at lots of things but not this. A bit of chocolate will do no harm .
