So when DS was born,

OP posts:
MackerelOfFact · 04/07/2011 14:16

I would be heatbroken if any of mine had cosmetic surgery for vanity reasons. They are perfect the way they are (well, appearance-wise anyway Grin).

I would also be sad if they abandoned their dreams or education for a relationship. That must be so frustrating to watch as a parent.

hellospoon · 04/07/2011 14:17

tybear her mother must be so proud!

FreudianSlipper · 04/07/2011 14:19

to become a tory councillor or worse mp

it would be an act of rebellion

grovel · 04/07/2011 14:37

To use flavoured condoms
To become an estate agent

Ooopsadaisy · 04/07/2011 14:43

How are you all going to stop them riding a motorbike or getting a tattoo or becoming a Tory (or all three)?

Xiaoxiong · 04/07/2011 14:50

My mother told me not to bother coming home if I ever went on the back of a motorbike. I'm now almost 28 and have still never been on the back of a motorbike (have ridden one myself though).

The only other one was "body mutilation" by which they meant any piercings or tattoos, until I was 18. They then very cleverly had an elderly friend of theirs show me his tattoo which was hideous and faded and saggy and another friend whose navel piercing was ripped out by paramedics after she'd been in a car accident - was so at both it put me off for life.

I think I will probably do both for my DCs and will show them DH's warhammer tattoo which I take the piss out of him mercilessly for - he was 16 and wasted and has regretted it ever since. Hopefully the fact that their old dad has a tattoo will make tattoos totally lame and uncool.

I will neither support, fund or condone any travel which is either
a) in contravention of Foreign Office guidelines or
b) to a country where the kidnap and/or terrorism risk assessment of a well known security advisory firm exceeds 3.8

"Yes I know that the scenery in Kashmir/Somalia/Colombia is beautiful darling, but so is Luxembourg. Northumbria is particularly lovely at this time of year. If you've never seen the Northern Lights from Lapland then you haven't lived."

Also no motorbikes, or recreational helicopter use, or illegal drugs of any kind, including cannabis while living under my roof (personal reasons).

Become a thug who terrorises other people.
Not go to college. Don't care what the qualification is in. I just want them to have the whole college experience.
Not leave the countryunless they are moving to Hawaii and are taking me with them

SherlockHolmes · 04/07/2011 15:52

DH has always said that DS can do anything he likes when he's an adult. But if he grows up to be a Morris dancer, he WILL disown him.

Grin
Awomancalledhorse · 04/07/2011 16:01

Ooh, just remembered the only things my mum was anti me doing was joining the BNP (probably not the best thing for a Jewish child of immigrants to do?!)& getting fat.

Haven't done either & we still managed to fall out Grin

DilysPrice · 04/07/2011 16:05

Oh and DH will disown them if they support Manchester United. Pretty sure he's not kidding about that one.

Ride motorbike , join the armed forces , emigrate

HerbWoman · 04/07/2011 16:18

Another one here for ride a motorbike - everyone I know personally who rides a motorbike has had an accident of one sort or another, including one fatality.

TalcAndTurnips · 04/07/2011 16:19

Wear black socks with sandals. A sartorial crime so grave, I would be forced to cut off all contact.

The sporting of a mullet is similarly frowned upon, unless it is part of a <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=mybandsbetterthanyourband.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/pat-sharp.jpg&imgrefurl=mybandsbetterthanyourband.wordpress.com/2011/01/07/its-a-whole-lot-of-fun/&usg=__ATQSkuipULw8zEcISNVHYusKk2I=&h=580&w=380&sz=44&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=6Xf14l3D7CSscM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=80&ei=zNgRToDlJYOWhQfR2qTkDQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpat%2Bsharp%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D710%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=302&vpy=79&dur=966&hovh=277&hovw=182&tx=185&ty=158&page=1&ndsp=38&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pat Sharp fancy dress outfit.

I probably wouldn't be best chuffed with any participation in mass murder or international drug trafficking, either. Or Daily Mail reading.

Spuddybean · 04/07/2011 16:19

motorbike for me too - it was motorbike for my mum when she had me too.

aliceliddell · 04/07/2011 16:24

Genuinely disturbed that motorbike out votes Tory. Surely some mistake? Why has nobody mentioned banker?

Spuddybean · 04/07/2011 16:25

my DP is in the army and been to afghan. He has asked if i mind him going back and i said er, YES! and he said well can i have a motorbike then (it had to be one or the other!) I said of course he can if he wants to be single but i couldn't bear the worry.

Anyway, the 4th person we know has just had a terrible bike accident and came out of back surgery yesterday (he's going to be okay thank god). If anything good has come out of it it is that my DP no longer wants a bike!

The thought of my child being in the forces or on a motorbike fills me with dread, but my DP is from a military family so i don't know how i'm going to dissuade any dc's!

IWantAnotherBaby · 04/07/2011 16:25

Smoke
Join armed forces/ fire service
Ride motorbikes
Become any sort of model
Do drugs
Waste their lives

SpecialFriedRice · 04/07/2011 16:30

Another nono on the motorbike here too. My DD is 3 but I already tell her motorbikes are silly and for stupid people (no offence to bikers but I do really hate motorbikes!)

Armed forces - But only because I wouldnt want to lose her, not because I think its a worthless career or anything.

I'd also be a little sad if she changed her first name. I put a lot of thought into her name!

And she's not allowed to be reckless with alcohol. There's nothing cool or funny about falling around drunk.

If I actually had control over her when she's older then she wouldn't be able to stay with any man who was a dick (this covers controlling men, abusive men, alcoholics, feckless lazy bastards who won't work, men who don't support her decisions etc and basically any man who treats her as anything less than a goddess!)

But I'm aware I will have no control of her when she's no grown up.

DawnTiggaFashionGoddess · 04/07/2011 16:35

Shit, I have a tattoo - yes you can drum me off MN now - ride motorbikes, toured with a rock band (v well known) and have done quite a few chemicals that may be of an illegal nature (might not). So the only thing I can say to The Cub (light heartedly it is in jest and a teeny bit serious) is to not become a right wing religious fundie.

overmydeadbody · 04/07/2011 16:44

Well, I hope, that when my DS grows up, he:

does not bum around unemployed, but instead gets a proper career

does not mistreat his girlfirend/partner

does not lie or act in an imoral way that hurts other people

overmydeadbody · 04/07/2011 16:49

TYbear what is wrong with rock climbing? It's not dangerous, you have a rope. It's only dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, much like crossing the road.
