if there is a MN clique? Someone mentioned it on a thread and I'm now wondering if everyone knows each other in person?

OP posts:
Hullygully · 04/07/2011 15:06

I think you'll find that you will get sideways looks and glances askance, Madame.

Hullygully · 04/07/2011 15:08

That is very good, Paggykins. I shall steal it immediately.

I am my own clique
I like me
I agree with me
I wreak havoc on myself
I piss me off
I make me happy

I am fit2drop I am bored a clique Hmm

I have been here about six months. To be fair I thought there was a clique at first , then realised that by mostly staying on the AIBU threads I was just reading comments from people who are not afraid to state opinions or to disagree with OP. So I realised, its not a clique , just a group of the less fearful posters.
I saw the word bullies being banded about too. Its crap, Just because someone disagrees with an opinion does not make them a bully..
Just because someones language is a bit more colourful does not make them bullies.
I know I would rather be disliked for my personality than liked with a lack of it.
And I certainly would not change my opinion and have never name changed either because what I have found is that I can have the biggest ruck with someone on one thread and the next day that same poster is offering me support over some such dilemma I am having.

The word clique gets bandied around the boards in most forums.
But honestly I have been on lots of forums and this one is the most truthful , say it how it is, know where you stand, uncliquey (cos its too big) forum I have ever frequented. Does that make it the best? I don't know, it depends what you want or need from a forum , but all I can say is " It works for me"
MN is vast and difficult to be known on every part of it so like minded people stay(usually) within the same areas with like minded people.

Some people like swings some people like roundabouts, some people want to ride the whole theme park , others just stand watching..

^hark at me getting all analogyistic Grin

Been here just under 6 months now...I think!

Found it really bullying at first (the worst I'd seen)...with OPs being shot down for the most trivial things (really couldn't understand why).

Had my baptism of fire on a Breast v bottle fed thread...
Was ridiculous now I think about it all Smile, but didn't put me off...in fact, made me more determined to stay!

Seems to have mellowed a bit lately....or maybe I've just become more de-sensitised to it all....I hope not!

Will always speak as I find...have strong opinions (tis true) and am accountable to no-one (ya hear me??) on here!

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/07/2011 15:26

Oooh - is it time to have another thread about how we're not bullies, and how would you know, have you ever looked up what bullying means in a dictionary and how dare you?

And flounce.

Hullygully · 04/07/2011 15:26
Pagwatch · 04/07/2011 15:27

Analogyistic....
It sounds real.
But then so does bitchplop.

fit2drop · 04/07/2011 15:28

LaQueen
I think that imagining such things happen actually says far more about the person making those assertions, than it does about MN itself.

yep agree and have said similar in previous threads.
Bloody caused havoc that did Grin [we need a tongue in cheek emote]

Hullygully · 04/07/2011 15:29

Isn't that what tvs are until they go digitalistic?

crazynanna · 04/07/2011 15:30

Hullygully · 04/07/2011 15:30

sausagesandmarmelade · 04/07/2011 15:33

As for bullying...I'd say it's rife on here....but then I knew about the reputation from Google. I've seen worse than that described below....with members being told to "F right off" for daring to have a different opinion to the masses...

*However, I was very surprised at the reaction I received. When I read through the comments, on the face of it, the worst that they called me was naïve. However, they ridiculed my spelling, questioned my intelligence, were condescending, openly laughed at me and for the most part were not helpful or supportive which I was hoping for. The bottom line is I came away feeling embarrassed, belittled, ashamed and guilty and I?m pretty thick skinned. Sadly the first word that sprung to mind was bullies?..

What worried me the most was when I tweeted about my concern for involving my friend this was the response I received

?oh, don?t worry about BellaBear. Getting flamed is all part of being a real proper MNetter?.

I?m sorry but is this some sort of weird initiation right? It all sounds a bit barbaric to me. If this is all part of being a MNetter I think I?ll give it a miss.*

Some people do seem to think that you have to conform in some way...or be accepted here. You really don't...

fit2drop · 04/07/2011 15:33

Analogyistic....Digitalistic ... fragilistic DOSHUS!!

sorry I 'll get me coat Blush

TrillianAstra · 04/07/2011 15:34

sausages is part of that a quote or is it all you? I'm a bit confused.

Some people do seem to think that you have to conform in some way...or be accepted here. You really don't...

I definitely agree with that part.

fit2drop · 04/07/2011 15:37

sausage , stoppit! Please Grin

you are interferring in my funniness.

oh sorry as you where , ^^ could be deemed as bullying.

[sits on hands]

Hullygully · 04/07/2011 15:37

I hope nobody swore, sausages?

It's bad enough being horribly bullied as I was, but when they use bad language as well it's simply awful.
